I wish I'd taken notes on this one as I listened。 The content seems to have completely vanished from my mind。 Maybe that's telling。 To be fair, I should say that I really enjoyed this book going in。 The first third grabbed my attention almost immediately。 It was during the second section of the book that I began to lose interest。 I found myself getting distracted and having to go back over and over to listen to the same parts。 Specifically those about our three brains and the different types of I wish I'd taken notes on this one as I listened。 The content seems to have completely vanished from my mind。 Maybe that's telling。 To be fair, I should say that I really enjoyed this book going in。 The first third grabbed my attention almost immediately。 It was during the second section of the book that I began to lose interest。 I found myself getting distracted and having to go back over and over to listen to the same parts。 Specifically those about our three brains and the different types of brain waves。The third section of the book would be helpful, I think, for those looking for a step by step guide to a serious daily meditation practice。 I say serious because I personally couldn't imagine spending two hours a day in meditation。 Dispenza says to make time, either by going to bed later or waking up earlier, but two hours is quite a lot and I treasure my sleep。This book definitely falls into the category of what I would consider woo woo, but some parts veer even further into the fantastical。 (view spoiler)[The poor guy with the warts on his hand? I'd love to believe that one day the warts miraculously disappeared, but I can't quite get there。 Maybe that's exactly why this book didn't work for me。 My tendency these days is to question rather than believe。 (hide spoiler)] Is this particular genre considered mystical? Metaphysical? Spiritual development? I called it woo woo before, but I don't consider woo woo to be a "bad" or negative term (though some use it mockingly and there are certainly toxic players)。 I typically enjoy the woo woo stuff, which to me includes meditation, yoga, tarot, spiritual healing and enlightenment, etc。 This book fits, but it didn't hit the mark for me。 The author wins his audience to his side with the wow factor, using personal stories to highlight the surprising miracles his work can do。 I'm sure he makes for a great motivational speaker, who in my experience gets people excited enough to buy all products on the way out the door then within a week is mostly forgotten。Side Note: It is a pet peeve of mine when self-help books introduce a chapter with the story of a client to prove their point。 There has to be a name for this。 Whatever it is, it's a major turn off for me。 I noticed this in the last part of the book, when he was talking about his many conferences and attendees。 Maybe that's part of why it soured for me in the end。 。。。more

This is the type of book you have to read carefully。 By that I mean, even one little distracting around your environment can influence how you take in the information being presented to you。 I enjoyed this book, personally for my personal growth in my mindset 。 Definitely something I'd like to go back and read again to remind myself the life I want to create for myself。 This is the type of book you have to read carefully。 By that I mean, even one little distracting around your environment can influence how you take in the information being presented to you。 I enjoyed this book, personally for my personal growth in my mindset 。 Definitely something I'd like to go back and read again to remind myself the life I want to create for myself。 。。。more

Took me forever to read this because I really lingered on each sentence。 There are several concepts in this book that challenge my perception of reality, but for the purpose of its message, I take it to heart。

I read this book on an off for two years, always seeming to leave and come back to it at the exact right time in my life。 It’s the first science based book I picked up on my spiritual journey, and I found it comforting to hear evidence backed confirmation of how powerful our minds truly are。 I’d highly recommend to anyone looking to change their perspective and change their life。

Great idea and concept which is spoiled by a poor writing style and the inability to communicate simply。 Probably one of the most repetitive books I’ve ever read。 Don’t brother reading, save time by watching a YouTube video。

First things first, I’m a realist—which made many of the examples in this book seem kooky at best。 The author stretched my current belief system centered around my own ability to influence outcomes by changing my attitude。 I thought some of the early chapters bridging physics and psychology were fascinating。 It makes sense to exercise our brains and to strengthen neuropathways through daily practice in order to enhance emotional responses and retrain our brains to be more resilient。 It’s the mor First things first, I’m a realist—which made many of the examples in this book seem kooky at best。 The author stretched my current belief system centered around my own ability to influence outcomes by changing my attitude。 I thought some of the early chapters bridging physics and psychology were fascinating。 It makes sense to exercise our brains and to strengthen neuropathways through daily practice in order to enhance emotional responses and retrain our brains to be more resilient。 It’s the more miraculous stories of finding wealth and health through positive thinking that I just didn’t buy into。 Don’t drink the kool-aid, folks。 。。。more

This book has been sitting patiently in my Kindle library since 2012, waiting for me to find the motivation to break the habit of being me。 “But why would I not want to be me,” my ego wailed in protest。 The answer to how to overcome my ego’s fearmongering lies within the 297 pages of this eBook, a well-thought-out treatise that spends the bulk of its volume grounding its promise of transformation in science and metaphysics。If you are new to “Dr。 Joe,” you should know that he has a Doctor of Chir This book has been sitting patiently in my Kindle library since 2012, waiting for me to find the motivation to break the habit of being me。 “But why would I not want to be me,” my ego wailed in protest。 The answer to how to overcome my ego’s fearmongering lies within the 297 pages of this eBook, a well-thought-out treatise that spends the bulk of its volume grounding its promise of transformation in science and metaphysics。If you are new to “Dr。 Joe,” you should know that he has a Doctor of Chiropractic degree and has post-graduate training in neuroscience and neuroplasticity。 He gained notoriety after writing his book, Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind, and appearing in the 2006 docudrama exploring human consciousness called, What the Bleep: Down the Rabbit Hole。 More recently he’s published Becoming Supernatural: How Common People Are Doing the Uncommon and is the host of meditation retreats and workshops that continually attract raving fans and followers, many of them who give extraordinary accounts of healing and transformation。Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself serves well as a prerequisite to a Dr。 Joe course or workshop。 It’s a level-set for his audience and a great introduction to understanding the challenges of the ‘lower case S’ self in its quest to know ‘the capital S’ Self。For me, this book successfully pierced the shield of my ego by freeing me from my attachment to my emotions。 I could begin to see that I could move beyond my emotions without dismissing or denying them, but by consciously recognizing patterns of thought that were creating undesirable behaviors within myself and reprograming my thoughts to generate a new, better way to respond。 What really resonated with me was how Dr。 Joe explained the metaphysics that underpin the Law of Attraction and how he demystified manifestation and co-creation with a higher power。 For example, some thoughts that stood out for me during my re-read of this book:The quantum field responds not to what we want; it responds to who we are being。That thought—The quantum field responds not to what we want; it responds to who we are being—helped me understand the necessity to “act as if” my desire was already manifested, a practice that has been taught by many others, Neville Goddard, Tony Robbins, Napoléon Hill to name a few。 Breaking the habit helped me more clearly see the connection between my emotional habits (Dr。 Joe calls them memorized emotions) —stored in my physiology and brain patterns—and staying stuck。 I didn’t have to dismiss my feelings, and I could see that I could de-victimize myself by changing them。 I’m going to grab a few more quotes from the book here and connect the dots…From a quantum standpoint, we have to create a different state of being an observer and generate a new electromagnetic signature。 As long as you stay the same person, as long as your electromagnetic signature remains the same, you can’t expect a new outcome。 To change your life is to change your energy — to make an elemental change in your mind and emotions。When you hold clear, focused thoughts about your purpose, accompanied by your passionate emotional engagement, you broadcast a stronger electromagnetic signal that pulls you toward a potential reality that matches what you want。Dr。 Joe explains how the chemical imprint of emotions on our body trains the body to remember better than the conscious mind, and that is when it takes charge, limiting us to our past feelings and behavior。Breaking the Habit is about how to rewrite the programming of your brain and biology so that we can be free from these chemical records prodding us to recreate experiences again and again。 And once we are free from that, then, we open the door to using more of our imagination。 We have more creative energy。The climax of this book is in Part III: Stepping Toward Your New Destiny。 In this section, Dr。 Joe focuses on the how-to become attentive to your new ideal version of self and stay the course of bringing your mind and body into coherence with that desired reality。 Readers can follow Dr。 Joe’s process to learn how to induce a meditative state where they can increase awareness through self-reflection, admit what no longer serves them, declare their new vision, surrender it to a higher power within, and then continue to install the new version through diligent observation, reminding, and conscious “dress rehearsals” of the future desired experience。 You might call breaking habits a process of conscious uncoupling, followed by reimagining a new future。 As an empath, I felt this book was particularly helpful in understanding how to gain perspective on emotions, especially those deep feelings that result from triggers that appear to come from outside the self。 I appreciated the scientific explanations and research-based evidence as well as Joe’s method of “undoing” habits through structured meditation。 It’s been almost ten years since my first reading of this book。 I am very glad that I resurrected it because I found it even more relevant and helpful than my initial pass。 Five stars。 。。。more

This book is hard to review。 Joe Dispenza promotes the practice of meditation as a means to effect real change in people。 There is clear evidence that meditation alters the brain and promotes positive effects in health and personality traits, and in so doing can transform lives。 So there is no disagreement here and people will benefit from his guide on the practice of meditation。 And it did motivate me to be more disciplined in the practice。But when Dispenza attempts to use "science" and isolate This book is hard to review。 Joe Dispenza promotes the practice of meditation as a means to effect real change in people。 There is clear evidence that meditation alters the brain and promotes positive effects in health and personality traits, and in so doing can transform lives。 So there is no disagreement here and people will benefit from his guide on the practice of meditation。 And it did motivate me to be more disciplined in the practice。But when Dispenza attempts to use "science" and isolated "examples" to explain what happens in our brain, and to argue that our thoughts and disposition has almost a supernatural effect on what happens to us in our lives, it moves this book towards pseudoscience。 I accept that there are things that happen in this world that Newtonian physics cannot explain - miracle cures of cancer, a stunning change in fortune in life。 But to explain this definitively using quantum physics is, well。。。。。。A highly rated book on Goodreads which I would just take it for what it is。 。。。more
