Summary

Una historia impredecible de amor y de entrega por una familia， por la tierra y por un hermano al que se ha esperado siempre， pero también la de una traición que puede acabarlo todo。

The Murmur of Bees is a difficult one to put words to and I won’t do it justice。 While I was reading it， I was easily lost in the story and the Morales family but when I had to put the book down I was not in a rush to get back to it。 As a result it took me much longer to finish then normal and I think that was a very good thing。 I was able to fully absorb it - the emotion it brought out and really concentrate on the story which builds and builds to its beautiful ending。 I loved the main characte The Murmur of Bees is a difficult one to put words to and I won’t do it justice。 While I was reading it， I was easily lost in the story and the Morales family but when I had to put the book down I was not in a rush to get back to it。 As a result it took me much longer to finish then normal and I think that was a very good thing。 I was able to fully absorb it - the emotion it brought out and really concentrate on the story which builds and builds to its beautiful ending。 I loved the main characters of Beatriz， Francisco and especially Simonopio。 A baby abandoned but welcomed and loved by a swarm of bees as their own and unquestionably by this adoptive family。 A boy without words but with so much to say， a quiet intelligence and fierce protectiveness for those he cares for。 The imagery that Sofia Segovia creates throughout the story， but specifically with Simonopio is extraordinary， richly textured and her writing is beautiful and has a rhythmic or lyrical quality to it that really brought the narrative to life for me。 This is a sweeping family saga that starts just before the Spanish flu devastates the area， lives through the revolution and constant threat of attack， follows the struggle to work a land that is both nourishing and unforgiving and sees this family through tragedy/celebration， life/death， love/hate。 It’s a heavy， emotional read which I recommend。 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 。。。more

I have very mixed feelings about this book。 The writing is beautiful， quite lyrical in parts; however， I found myself getting impatient for the author to get on with the story。 The characters are well-developed and presented with empathy。 I know that all fiction is made up， but I like reading about situations that are believable。 The bees in this story were a distraction--how could they know the future and give Simonopio the gift of knowing？

An unlikely page turner I first considered withholding a star because the magic of Sinopio and the bees was not fully explained。 With a bit more reflection I realized they fully played their part in a story of time on this earth。 What a warm affirming book。

While I enjoyed the book， it did take me awhile to read it。 I admired the character of Beatriz， but it was hard to get a complete sense of some of the other characters。 I was fascinated by the part about the flu of 1918， but other parts dragged a little for me。

Acabo de terminar este libro que fue una recomendación。Me encontré con una historia hermosa de realismo mágico， que transcurre en un lugar y en un contexto histórico muy interesante （con la pandemia de la gripe española de por medio）， con personajes entrañables。 La trama es agridulce， alterna entre momentos enternecedores， felices y trágicos， pero siempre con una descripción de lugares y de sensaciones que hacen que te sumerja en la historia como si estuvieras ahí。 La forma de escribir me hizo a Acabo de terminar este libro que fue una recomendación。Me encontré con una historia hermosa de realismo mágico， que transcurre en un lugar y en un contexto histórico muy interesante （con la pandemia de la gripe española de por medio）， con personajes entrañables。 La trama es agridulce， alterna entre momentos enternecedores， felices y trágicos， pero siempre con una descripción de lugares y de sensaciones que hacen que te sumerja en la historia como si estuvieras ahí。 La forma de escribir me hizo acordar un poco a Garcia Marquez y la historia me resultó cautivadora。Quizás si tuviera que hacer alguna crítica es sobre el villano， creo que es demasiado malvado y eso hace que no se exploren sus motivaciones que podrían comprenderse mejor。Lo leí en un momento en que estaba con muchas actividades y solo podía dedicarle un ratito cada vez que retomaba la lectura。 Quizás lo hubiera disfrutado más con más tiempo para leerlo de corrido。Por las dudas， si hasta acá no quedó claro， una lectura muy linda y recomendables。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this one。 It seems the translation books I read are always beautifully written。 The story was interesting and while the end left me hanging a little， it’s good that it is open to the reader’s interpretation。 Perhaps one day the author will write a sequel， counting Francisco’s time in Monterrey while simultaneously giving us insight into Simonopio’s life。 I’d love to know her intentions！

In den 1910er-Jahren in der kleinen mexikanischen Stadt Linares: Nachdem die alte Amme Reja das Baby unter einer Brücke gefunden hat， kommt der Junge Simonopio bei der Familie Morales unter。 Dort lebt das stumme Pflegekind in einer Hacienda am Fuß der Berge mit einem Ehepaar sowie dessen beiden Töchtern。 Mit den Bienen im verwilderten Garten kann der Junge kommunizieren。 Mit seiner außergewöhnlichen Gabe hat er die Macht， die Familie zu beschützen。 Doch der Bürgerkrieg， die Spanische Grippe， die In den 1910er-Jahren in der kleinen mexikanischen Stadt Linares: Nachdem die alte Amme Reja das Baby unter einer Brücke gefunden hat， kommt der Junge Simonopio bei der Familie Morales unter。 Dort lebt das stumme Pflegekind in einer Hacienda am Fuß der Berge mit einem Ehepaar sowie dessen beiden Töchtern。 Mit den Bienen im verwilderten Garten kann der Junge kommunizieren。 Mit seiner außergewöhnlichen Gabe hat er die Macht， die Familie zu beschützen。 Doch der Bürgerkrieg， die Spanische Grippe， die Revolution und andere Umstände bergen so einige Gefahren。。。„Das Flüstern der Bienen“ ist ein Roman von Sofía Segovia。Meine Meinung:Der Roman besteht aus 100 Kapiteln， die teils recht kurz sind。 Erzählt wird aus verschiedenen Perspektiven。 Es gibt mehrere Zeitsprünge。 Die Handlung umfasst einige Jahre。 Dieser Aufbau macht den Roman ziemlich komplex。Der Schreibstil ist sehr atmosphärisch， bildhaft und zugleich angenehm unaufgeregt。 Die Geschichte beginnt in einem gemächlichen Tempo。Simonopio， der stumme Protagonist mit dem sperrigen Vornamen， ist eine wunderbar liebenswerte Figur。 Auch die übrigen Hauptcharaktere sind liebevoll ausgestaltet und haben meine Sympathie gewonnen。Auf annähernd 500 Seiten gibt es nur wenige Längen。 Obwohl die Handlung bereits vor langer Zeit spielt， hält die Geschichte durchaus Themen bereit， die auch aktuell diskutiert werden: vor allem das Bienensterben， die Zerstörung der Umwelt und die Diskriminierung andersartiger Menschen。 Der Roman wartet zudem mit mehreren kreativen Ideen auf。 Immer wieder ist die Geschichte von magischem Realismus durchsetzt。 Das verleiht ihr einen gewissen Zauber， war mir an manchen Stellen jedoch etwas zu viel。Interessant ist im Übrigen das Nachwort „Erklärung und Danksagung“， in dem man erfährt， dass die Geschichte zwar von realen Begebenheiten inspiriert wurde， aber sich die Autorin - trotz gründlicher Recherche - nicht immer an historische Fakten gehalten hat。Der passende deutsche Titel ist recht wörtlich aus dem spanischsprachigen Original （„El Murmullo de las Abejas“） übersetzt worden。 Das Cover ist zwar durchaus ansprechend， aber nicht so stimmungsvoll wie das anderer Ausgaben。Mein Fazit:Der Roman von Sofía Segovia erzählt eine besondere Geschichte。 Trotz kleinerer Schwächen hat mich „Das Flüstern der Bienen“ gut unterhalten。 。。。more

I couldn’t get through this one。 I read a third of the book （which was quite a bit since it’s nearly 500 pages） and I found myself drifting off quite a bit。 It reads more like a parable and I just couldn’t relate to the characters。
