Summary

"A heartfelt and lovely Christmas tale for book lovers everywhere!"--Jenny Colgan, author of The Bookshop on the Shore

In small-town England, two booksellers facing tough times decide to spread some Christmas cheer through the magic of anonymous book deliveries in this uplifting holiday tale for book lovers everywhere。

Nora and her husband, Simon, have run the beautiful oak-beamed book shop in their small British village for thirty years。 But times are tough and the shop is under threat of closure--this Christmas season will really decide their fate。 When an elderly man visits the store and buys the one book they've never been able to sell, saying it's the perfect gift for his sick grandson, it gives Nora an idea。 She and Simon will send out books to those feeling down this Christmas。 Maybe they can't save their bookstore, but at least they'll have one final chance to lift people's spirits through the power of reading。

After gathering nominations online, Nora and Simon quietly deliver books to six residents of the village in need of some festive cheer, including a single dad of twins who is working hard to make ends meet, a teenage boy grieving for his big sister, a local Member of Parliament who is battling depression, and a teacher who's newly retired and living on her own。 As the town prepares for a white Christmas, the books begin to give the recipients hope, one by one。 But with the future of the bookshop still up in the air, Nora and Simon will need a Christmas miracle--or perhaps a little help from the people whose lives they've touched--to find a happy ending of their own。。。。

Don't bother reading this book。 Yes it had a happy ending but most of the book was sad。 Very disappointed especially since it's a Christmas book。 Don't bother reading this book。 Yes it had a happy ending but most of the book was sad。 Very disappointed especially since it's a Christmas book。 。。。more

A fun and enjoyable Christmas story set in an English bookstore。 The characters are ones that the ready can easily identify with。 Sit back with a cup of tea and enjoy this novel。

I loved it!!! I was looking for a cozy and feel-good story, and this book was exactly what I craved。 Plus it’s set in an English village during Christmas。 What’s not to love? If you want something to cuddle with while sipping tea in the evening, this book should do the trick。 Lots of happy endings and new beginning, which I love in my Christmas stories。

I was a First Read Winner of this Book and I really enjoyed it。 Normally I tend to devour my books but I wanted to savor this story and I read it slower than I would normally do。 I miss having a Book Shop, but they all made way to online ordering now, so this book touched a nerve。 I loved the storyline and the characters and it was the perfect Holiday Read。 Books bring me so much joy and help me escape when life get though。

This is a holiday hallmark movie in a book。 It is predictable and a little cheesy, but also a fun heart-warming read。

It was so nice to have a Christmas story where the main character wasn't just dumped by her long-term boyfriend (that seems to be the theme this year)。 Every bookworm will want to read this book for all the literary references。 But it is also a great heartwarming novel about family and community。 Read my full review at Girl Who Reads It was so nice to have a Christmas story where the main character wasn't just dumped by her long-term boyfriend (that seems to be the theme this year)。 Every bookworm will want to read this book for all the literary references。 But it is also a great heartwarming novel about family and community。 Read my full review at Girl Who Reads 。。。more

A lovely Christmas tale which most book lovers would enjoy。 There's a bookshop, there's a sweet married couple, there are people struggling in life who feel better after the kindness of strangers who become friends and there is little dog named Merry! Such a heartfelt sweet seasonal tale。 In a small Cotswold village, Simon and Nora have been running a bookshop that Nora's mother started many years before。 Things have fallen on hard times though, and this might just be the last Christmas they are able to keep the shop afloat due to crippling debt。 When a customer purchases a book that had been on their shelves for over twenty years claiming that it is the perfect book, they get the idea to send out copies of books to ten people nominated by vi Such a heartfelt sweet seasonal tale。 In a small Cotswold village, Simon and Nora have been running a bookshop that Nora's mother started many years before。 Things have fallen on hard times though, and this might just be the last Christmas they are able to keep the shop afloat due to crippling debt。 When a customer purchases a book that had been on their shelves for over twenty years claiming that it is the perfect book, they get the idea to send out copies of books to ten people nominated by village members that are viewed to need some sort of encouragement。 What happens next is so beautifully heartwarming that it caused me to shed a couple of tears of joy when all was said and done。This isn't a deep book。 It's fairly predictable in the way that Christmas books often are。 Yet, sometimes that's just the type of read you need for the season。 This book can give you hope, comfort, and the knowledge that sometimes just a small act of kindness can be monumental for those around you。 Cuddle up under a cozy blanket and enjoy this sweet book。 Added bonus--there's a super adorable dog appropriately named Merry。 I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, all opinions are my own。 。。。more

Oh, and there's a shop dog too。 :0) Christmas by the Book was wonderful seasonal reading for me。 Best read with a cup of tea and a quilt。Booklovers, I think this one might just fit in your stocking!Fans of Jenny Colgan would enjoy this one。 Jenny says "A heartfelt and lovely Christmas tale for book lovers everywhere!" I knew in the first two pages of this novel that I was going to like it。 Nora and her husband Simon have been running the bookstore founded by her mother for years。 Now though, Nora has a secret- they haven't been able to pay their business taxes and are in danger of losing the shop。 It's Christmas, though, and she's determined to have a good one, despite the fact that their daughter Charlotte is on her gap year and won't be home。 A wine filled decision with Simon to deliver books to six people I knew in the first two pages of this novel that I was going to like it。 Nora and her husband Simon have been running the bookstore founded by her mother for years。 Now though, Nora has a secret- they haven't been able to pay their business taxes and are in danger of losing the shop。 It's Christmas, though, and she's determined to have a good one, despite the fact that their daughter Charlotte is on her gap year and won't be home。 A wine filled decision with Simon to deliver books to six people in the village who have been having a tough go- well, best thing they could have done not only for these people (who you will meet) but themselves as well。 This is the sort of heartwarming, it takes a village novel where you kinda sorta know what's gong to happen but it doesn't matter because the characters are so special and the storytelling so good。 I could visualize the shop, the village, the cemetery, the pub, Simon's parent's house。 And I totally rooted for everyone。 Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC。 This is a lovely one that cheered me more than I expected。 。。。more
