Summary

The highly-anticipated second—and final—book in the immersive fantasy duology inspired by West African folklore that began with the New York Times bestselling A Song of Wraiths and Ruin, from author Roseanne A。 Brown。

Karina lost everything after a violent coup left her without her kingdom or her throne。 Now the most wanted person in Sonande, her only hope of reclaiming what is rightfully hers lies in a divine power hidden in the long-lost city of her ancestors。

Meanwhile, the resurrection of Karina’s sister has spiraled the world into chaos, with disaster after disaster threatening the hard-won peace Malik has found as Farid’s apprentice。 When they discover that Karina herself is the key to restoring balance, Malik must use his magic to lure her back to their side。 But how do you regain the trust of someone you once tried to kill?

As the fabric holding Sonande together begins to tear, Malik and Karina once again find themselves torn between their duties and their desires。 And when the fate of everything hangs on a single, horrifying choice, they each must decide what they value most—a power that could transform the world, or a love that could transform their lives。

This was a fantastic conclusion to this duology。 A richly imagined, complex story, with a Romeo and Juliette-esque/ forbidden romance subplot。 Subplot because the story as a whole was epic in scope, so much was going on。 We finally find out what led to the current day political climate/societal make up。 How oppressions of people, and even personal feuds all came to be。 I loved that we were finally given the answers。 And it was nothing I had predicted。 There were so many things at play, different story arcs, that seemed to be pulling us in different directions, but its a testament to the authors talent that she brought all the threads together and made it make perfect sense。 The world building in this book was exemplary, It was richly populated with people and their history, culture, languages。 The very environment was brought to life with such clarity that it was a pleasure to imagine it。 Now to Karina and Malik, their character development was brilliant, I loved seeing Karina's more vulnerable side and Malik realising how much strength and courage he really possessed。 I really cant find anything to fault in this; storytelling, pacing, writing style, everything came together to make the perfect reading experience。 Definitely recommend pre-ordering if you havent already。 。。。more

I was looking forward to reading this book, so I was very grateful when I was granted the chance to read an ARC。 And I must say that this book is a very good conclusion to the duology。There weren’t really that many unexpected twists and turns, but I still enjoyed the way the story was told。 On the other hand, the characters completely blew me away! I completely fell in love with both Malik and Karina。 I was so invested in them that I felt their pains and joys alongside them in their journey。 I a I was looking forward to reading this book, so I was very grateful when I was granted the chance to read an ARC。 And I must say that this book is a very good conclusion to the duology。There weren’t really that many unexpected twists and turns, but I still enjoyed the way the story was told。 On the other hand, the characters completely blew me away! I completely fell in love with both Malik and Karina。 I was so invested in them that I felt their pains and joys alongside them in their journey。 I absolutely adored Malik and I appreciate the way his character was laid out in all his vulnerabilities and insecurities。 His struggles and sufferings can be felt deeply that they brought tears to my eyes。 On the other hand, I respected Karina and her will and determination to set things to right。 She was admirably loyal to her companions and loved ones。 It was also beautiful the way that the author was able to show how strong their connection was to each other despite being apart for most of the book。 But more than the two of them, we get to meet other characters that brought more excitement to the story namely: Hanane, Ife, Caracal, and Idir。 Yes, Idir, I didn’t really expect much from his character based on the first book, but I came to appreciate his presence and his bond with Malik in this one。And the ending, oh, the ending! Others may not appreciate the way it ended, but I liked it。 Would I have wanted a bit more traditional ending? Sure。 But I felt like it ended the way it was supposed to, and in a way, it did give a satisfying end just not told in a way we’re used to。All in all, I really enjoyed this one, more than the first book, too, I believe。 The characters are the highlights in this book, and I will carry the beautiful story of Malik and Karina in my heart。 。。。more

I can't tell you how bored I was during the first 20% of this book, trying to remember everything that happened at the end of the last book。 BUT, the rest was really good。 Malik and Karina have a lot on their plate after the devastating ending of A Song of Wraiths and Ruin that left them on the opposite sides of country, with different loyalties。 Karina lost her throne, forced to flee for her life, while Malik stands at Farid's side, with promises of safety and magical training。 It was kind of hard to adjust to changes this book brings, Malik working with Farid and Karina running for her life。 Their conversations sometimes frustrated me, because when Malik asks who killed Tunde, Karina says that (view spoiler)[ she can't tell him。 At that moment, I wanted to scream at her。 How can you not tell him that it was Farid??? What motivation does she have to withold that information from him??? You are already exiled! And what did she think, where was Malik living, on the streets? Of course he is well protected in the palace and is then by default working with Farid。 (hide spoiler)] What frustrated me was how easily Malik was manipulated and how he just accepted everything that was asked of him。 It wasn't Malik's fault, because we know who is the villian here and they knows exactly what to say to make Malik listen to him。 Malik goes through a lot here and he grows even more as a character by the end of this。 Even with all of that, Malik was probably my favorite character。 He goes through so much and while I wanted to scream at him, I also wanted to protect him from harm。 The fact that he (view spoiler)[ confessed to Karina what he feels and got physical with her (hide spoiler)] was a huge step for him and I'm so proud of him。There is really a lot of manipulation, abuse and gaslighting in this book, especially in Malik's POVs。 I wanted so bad for him to see what his sister, Leila was saying to him and to realize some things。 Karina was a lot easier to read this time, because she left her selfishness behind her (mostly)。 Character dynamics were again a bit frustrating due to all the manipulation and secret-keeping going on, but once the characters realized what their worth, it was so rewarding to see them standing up for themselves。My favorite part of this book was the narrator。 I loved how the book started and how it ended。 I also loved the presence of the Hyena, and would love if it was even more present。 These two aspects gave me the feeling like someone is telling the story that happened a long time ago, throught the eyes of someone who didn't directly participate, but was there to see it all。 The intermissions of the narrator to show something that happened in the past also deepened the story and gave us insight to events we probably wouldn't even know happened。 Another thing I liked was that we got more information what happened with Malik and Karina's ancestors and how their story really ended。 What I would love more of, is depth。 Some parts of the mythology are still confusing to me, and I feel like the author was trying to give explanation to some things, but then left other, new things unresolved or just left it。。 blank。 We got some questions from the first book answered, but then we got more questions which were never answered and just were there to try to give answers to these first questions (even writing this is confusing)。 What I didn't like was making hints at something and never going through with it。 Like Leila and (view spoiler)[ Hanane。 There were hints that there might be something going on between them and that they were growing closer, and then conveniently, Malik violates Leila and Nadia's trust and they decide to run away。 While I respect their decision in doing so, because it makes Malik finally see that he is irrationally trying to protect them, but is using his powers to do so and is essentially violating their minds and will, I feel like it was an easy way to get rid of the sisters。 This is truly a heartbreaking moment, because all Malik ever wanted to do is to protect them, but he instead drove them away。 I feel like Leila and Hanane's relationship/friendship could be a lot deeper if the author gave them a little more attention。 That could've made their run even more impactful, not only for Malik, but also for Hanane。 (hide spoiler)] But also, can someone explain to me what happened with Faceless King? I really liked how towards the end (view spoiler)[ Idir was trying to kind of (I'm not sure about his motivations) protect Malik and guide him, but then when Karina and Malik fell in that water he just。。。 vanished? escaped? (hide spoiler)]The ending。 Now that's a whole other thing I could talk about。 I liked it, I really did, but it was also so bittersweet at the same time。 It reminded me a lot of Red Queen, (view spoiler)[ in the way that Malik and Karina didn't officially end up together (hide spoiler)]。 It also reminded me of All the Stars and Teeth, because don't get me started on (view spoiler)[ Afua sacrificing herself :((((( (hide spoiler)]。 That last chapter was so good and sad to read at the same time。 I love (view spoiler)[ open endings when it fits the story, and for this book it for sure works amazing。 The way the last chapter was written made me emotional and rounded the story really well (and fits into that "someone is telling the story to me" feel)。 Imagining what Malik and Karina's journey to self-love and individual happiness looked like and believing that they will meet once again and finish what they started is so comforting。 The line " This is the end of my tale, but not the end of the story" is what describes this ending the best。 Who am I kidding, that whole chapter could make me cry。 It's written beautifully。 It gave me chills。 (hide spoiler)] All in all, great conclusion to this duology, with amazing character development and growth, complicated relationships, tense moments, more mythology + some explanations, with a well written ending。 。。。more

Thank you so much to Roseanne E。 Brown and Epic Reads for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!Y’ALL omg。 I feel like the world has been waiting for A Psalm of Storms and Silence since A Song of Wraiths and Ruin came out in June 2020 and the original release date of APOSAS was pushed back。 While I did have some issues with the pacing of ASOWAR, I was immediately drawn to Karina and Malik in Book 1, and I can definitively say that I enjoyed APOSAS much more than I did ASOWAR。 Thank you so much to Roseanne E。 Brown and Epic Reads for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!Y’ALL omg。 I feel like the world has been waiting for A Psalm of Storms and Silence since A Song of Wraiths and Ruin came out in June 2020 and the original release date of APOSAS was pushed back。 While I did have some issues with the pacing of ASOWAR, I was immediately drawn to Karina and Malik in Book 1, and I can definitively say that I enjoyed APOSAS much more than I did ASOWAR。It was super interesting to see how Karina and Malik’s dynamics had changed after the explosive ending of ASOWAR。 You can really tell that this duology is both Malik and Karina’s story through the way that we follow each individual character much more than we follow both these characters together。 This sequel contains the “seeing/communicating with each other in our dreams” trope, which is such an underrated trope in fantasy, imo。 Both Karina and Malik are such great characters individually。 Of course, Karina is so incredibly strong and unapologetically herself--she’s truly such an amazing role model for young female readers。 And Malik’s character arc from making some horrible decisions to working his way to earn the respect of others around him was really great to see。 I also think that in general, the enemies-to-lovers trope is also really well done in this duology。 The “do I kiss them or kill them” theme was so prevalent LOL。There were also so many other aspects of this novel that I loved, like Idir’s relationship with Malik; the disability and mental health representation, and the harrowing action sequences。 I also loved the “storytelling” aspect of the story in which the chapters were interrupted by a narrator speaking as if they were retelling Malik and Karina’s story for a play or book。 The epilogue was also so bittersweet :( No spoilers about what happened, but I think I’m just gonna go ahead and reinvent a new epilogue for my own well-being :)Be sure to pick up A Psalm of Storms and Silence on November 2! If you were a fan of ASOWAR, you’ll definitely love this one。 。。。more

Karina was an absolute masterpiece, so well-written I felt her hope, her anger, her despair, EVERYTHING with her。 The same goes for Malik, who's had one of the BEST character developments in the entire book/series。 AMAZING WRITING。 He dropped straight to the rocky bottom and climbed right back up again。 Gloriously so。 Even though, he became really, really unlikeable for a minute there。 There were a lot of new and incredible characters in there too。 Fantastically well written, with remarkable backstories and forming some of the most amazing friendships with the MCs。 My absolute favourite character, however, has to be Idir and his strange, and hilarious relationship with Malik。 They had a very Sam Winchester x Lucifer kind of relationship but with more feeling (if you understand SPN references) that I just loved unconditionally, and it all took me completely by surprise。 I did not expect the hilarious bickering between them。 Theirs were the most amazing moments of the book (aside from the Karina x Malik stuff of course)。 He was the comedic relief the book needed。 The other relationship I can talk about without spoiling was Karina and Malik's。 Their scenes were a treasure from beginning to end。 Beautiful, sweet, and filled with a lot of sexual tension (which I will never get sick of) even when they were supposed to hate each other。 Actually, especially then。One thing that definitely deserves to be noted, is how well mental illness was written into the story, once again。 Respectful, accurate just like in the first book。 Except for this time, there was a more serious, darker side to mental illness that cut my breathing short。 There were some moments that were so well-detailed and raw, they held my attention completely, in frozen terror。 I literally (the correct use of the word) got goosebumps and chills down my back。 I could feel the despair, the emptiness, the darkness inside the characters。 The details of what goes on inside an ill person's mind during their darkest and lowest moments gave a whole new meaning to the book。 Anyone who's ever said that fantasy/sci-fi books cannot include important, serious themes is a complete idiot and needs to shut up!! That's all I have to say about that。In spite of its dull moments, I would still recommend this book/series。 It is definitely worth reading。Don't know what I'm talking about? This book put me through the wringer。 I'm gonna keep it buck with you guys, it is not the strongest sequel。 The first thirty percent or so was dragging, mostly because it felt too 'quippy'。 It gave me the same energy as a Marvel movie, but it had an unearned rapport with the new side characters who were all VERY interesting。 Caracal, Ife, and Hanane were all wonderful and intriguing, and I would have loved a third book to get to know them more。 Instead, it felt rough and slightly shoehorned in。 This book put me through the wringer。 I'm gonna keep it buck with you guys, it is not the strongest sequel。 The first thirty percent or so was dragging, mostly because it felt too 'quippy'。 It gave me the same energy as a Marvel movie, but it had an unearned rapport with the new side characters who were all VERY interesting。 Caracal, Ife, and Hanane were all wonderful and intriguing, and I would have loved a third book to get to know them more。 Instead, it felt rough and slightly shoehorned in。 After we get over that, the middle begins to accelerate and never stops。 Brown keeps a breakneck pace that I adore, and we really get to know the depth of Malik's despair and Karina's desperation。 They went from feeling surface level at the beginning of the book to fully fleshed out。 Brown does a particularly good job depicting Malik, his spiral, and the combination of his mental illness with the pressure of keeping himself -- and Idir -- contained。 Brown handles his pain honestly and with raw emotion in a way that actually made me cry。Brown also does callbacks and references well。 Between Karina and Malik, although they are separated for most of the book on their journey, the parallels between them are quite beautiful at times。Ultimately though, Brown has too little book with too much plot。 Although I'm typically a huge fan of duologies, I think she would have really benefited from expanding into a Trilogy。 The motivations behind the actions of characters, including Hanane and Idir, didn't feel completely believable。 The readers would have benefited from more time to flesh them out。The ending is definitely controversial。 Once again I was thrown back to that "Marvel movie" type ending that left me feeling unfulfilled and rolling my eyes。 But other people may feel different, which is something I recognize。 And there's always fan fiction to turn to。 Brown ended it how she felt most appropriate, I just happen to disagree。 I hope other people get what they want, or what they need from it。The book was 'good' so I give it three stars。 The Karina and Malik story, especially their inner lives, are beautiful。 That is where Brown excels and flourishes。 She just happened to be held back a bit by the pacing。 The world she created was lush and beautiful, and could have benefited from another full book for the readers to lose themselves in。 But for now, like Idir in the lemon grove, I will simply wait to see what happens next。 。。。more

I love love love Malik and Karina! They are such a breath of fresh air from the samey type couples you have in other YA books and i really appreciate that RAB was able to create two characters that have a different kind of depth to them while still being the heroes of their own making。APOSAS picks up directly after ASOWAR obviously and is full of action from the start。 Karina is on the run and Mailk is caught in Farid's clutches at the Alahari palace。 Its all really fast paced which i like and th I love love love Malik and Karina! They are such a breath of fresh air from the samey type couples you have in other YA books and i really appreciate that RAB was able to create two characters that have a different kind of depth to them while still being the heroes of their own making。APOSAS picks up directly after ASOWAR obviously and is full of action from the start。 Karina is on the run and Mailk is caught in Farid's clutches at the Alahari palace。 Its all really fast paced which i like and they immediately head on a quest to save Ziran from destruction。 Malik and Karina are connected through their powers and there are some intimate moments between them that are so sweet, i had a big grin on my face。However, the reason i give it such a middle ground rating is that by the end, it felt rushed with two many things thrown in。 The Faceless King kind of lost his purpose towards the end and there were too many 'i thought this was the end' moments, before we still had more to go which seemed a little unnecessary。I also wasnt that satisfied with the ending。 While it is a HEA which I knew it would be, i wanted more of a solid answer and turn out for Malik and of course Malik with Karina。 Its implied and you can obviously work it out but i like finality in my finales and this still leaves questions which i dont like。Lastly, RAB touches on a lot of issues that might be triggering for some people including, Self Harm, Physical and Emotional Manipulation, Suicide and general Mental Illness。 It is all done exceptionally well both in the way its written and the actions that Malik goes through when dealing with them。I thoroughly enjoyed it and am sad to leave Malik and Karina behind, i just would have wanted a little bit more confirmation on where their lives end upThank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for the ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

This book was even better than the first。 I loved all the new characters introduced, and the depth added to characters introduced in the first book。 Heroes that are not always heroic, how various types of trauma can affect the decisions made, on top of being a really cool fantasy novel。。。loved it。

A Psalm of Storms and Silence was truly a worthy sequel to A Song of Wraiths and Ruin, which I read and loved last year。 I was delighted to have received an e-arc, and couldn’t help but dive right in。 From the start, I was hooked。 The writing style that I already very much enjoyed in the first book allowed me to quickly be sucked back in to the world, and also provided many memorable, impactful, and beautiful quotes。 Very frequently, these quotes contained powerful messages reflecting current is A Psalm of Storms and Silence was truly a worthy sequel to A Song of Wraiths and Ruin, which I read and loved last year。 I was delighted to have received an e-arc, and couldn’t help but dive right in。 From the start, I was hooked。 The writing style that I already very much enjoyed in the first book allowed me to quickly be sucked back in to the world, and also provided many memorable, impactful, and beautiful quotes。 Very frequently, these quotes contained powerful messages reflecting current issues relating to our society as well, which I highly appreciated。 The plot was so much more than I could have imagined based on the ending of the first book。 I kept being surprised by all the twists and turns and the new directions the story was developing in, and especially the second half of the book was wild。 As a result, I read that in about a day; I simply sped through it, because all I wanted to do was keep reading。I already loved Karina and Malik in ASOWAR, as well as how well-developed they were, and I loved seeing both their growth arcs in this book。 I couldn’t help but root for both of them。 APOSAS introduced even more amazing characters that I could fall in love with。 I even found myself finding unexpected new appreciation for a certain character。 Furthermore, in general, I found the characters to be developed nicely, also the villain。 Apart from the characters on their own, I enjoyed seeing the dynamics between them: the friendships, the love。 There were so many sweet and fluffy scenes that I absolutely adored。 There were a couple of tiny things I would have liked to have a bit more elaboration on, and I did find one small element related to the ending to be rushed。 However, apart from that aspect, I felt like the ending was handled so well, and in my opinion the epilogue was absolutely perfect。 This series has certainly become one of my all time favourite duologies, and I hold the characters such close to heart。𝘔𝘢𝘫𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘕𝘦𝘵𝘨𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘺, 𝘙𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘦 𝘈。 𝘉𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘗𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘱𝘺。 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘸𝘯。{Short thoughts after finishing: Full review to come but some quick remarks: I love these characters, I love the messages the book holds, I love the writing style, I love how wild the second half of this book was, and this book may possibly contain my favourite epilogue I have ever read (in my opinion the epilogue truly was perfect)。} 。。。more

I loved this book so much my heart hurts。 It's so sad whenever your favorite series ends, but this book did by right by Malik and Karina。 It doesn't shy away from topics like mental health, grooming, abuse, hate, refugees, self-harm and I really appreciated it。 It builds up appropriately on earlier established elements, the romance and the plot itself。 While the first book focused on the rite of resurrection, this focusses on the rite of renewal。 There were a lot of betrayals and backstabbings, I loved this book so much my heart hurts。 It's so sad whenever your favorite series ends, but this book did by right by Malik and Karina。 It doesn't shy away from topics like mental health, grooming, abuse, hate, refugees, self-harm and I really appreciated it。 It builds up appropriately on earlier established elements, the romance and the plot itself。 While the first book focused on the rite of resurrection, this focusses on the rite of renewal。 There were a lot of betrayals and backstabbings, which kept making me go on an emotional rollercoasters。 Malik deals with a lot mentally in this book and we're really in his headspace。 He's really struggling and his mental health takes a sharp dive。 On that note, Roseanne really did a great job of making me connect emotionally with him, and I praise her for being able to create characters that are deeply flawed and struggling without making them a total dick。 Karina's in for her fair share of wild shit too and I'd be lying if I said she didn't go through character development too, but I felt Malik went through so much more meaningful (at least to me) character development。I loved everything in the book, but if there was a complaint, it would probably be the ending (epilogue?)。 I felt it was a tad too rushed and maybe it could have been slowed down more。 Nevertheless, I loved the book as a whole and it really, really lives up to (dare I say, is better than) the first installment。 Disclaimer: I received an e-galley for reviewing。 Many thanks to Netgalley and Roseanne A Brown for this opportunity。 This has not affected my opinions in any way whatsoever If you liked this review please consider following me on Twitter (@theyaalni) and Instagram (yaalni_should_be_studying_now)! ------I GOT AN E-ARC! Where the first book in this duology centered around the Rite of Resurrection as a major plot point, the second book has the Rite of Renewal, another ceremony that requires particular objects and words at a specific time, which necessitates our heroes questing about for said items。 The story picks up right where the first book left off and adventures ensue with the fate of the world hanging in the balance。 While that all sounds cliché, these are common fantasy elements for a reason--they work。 A Where the first book in this duology centered around the Rite of Resurrection as a major plot point, the second book has the Rite of Renewal, another ceremony that requires particular objects and words at a specific time, which necessitates our heroes questing about for said items。 The story picks up right where the first book left off and adventures ensue with the fate of the world hanging in the balance。 While that all sounds cliché, these are common fantasy elements for a reason--they work。 And Brown brings her own flavor to them。 She makes her heroes, Karina and Malik, immensely flawed, but still likable。 Readers will root for them as a team and as individuals right to the end and gloriously, Brown doesn't give readers all of the answers。 The best stories leave readers imagining the continuation of the tales in their own imaginations and Brown encourages her readers to do just that。 That way, Karina and Malik's stories are never really over, even if the duology is。 A great adventure from a wonderful new talent in YA。 Review from e-galley。 。。。more

Is what’s keeping me from giving this 5 stars。 I absolutely did NOT like the ending。 Which makes me mad, because I had such high hopes after such a great finish to the overall duology。 The main plot is great。 We meet some new characters (and get some more lgbtq+ rep in the process) and we get a final conclusion to the crazy cliffhanger from the first book。 I also really enjoyed how both Karina and Malik grew and changed as they moved through their lives。 Malik’s struggle with mental health was incredibly realistic, and he deserves all the hugs。 The problem is this: Brown has a lot going on in this book that it should’ve been a trilogy。 Afua’s story is just dropped, and while we generally know what happens to her, Karina never goes back to find her make sure she’s okay。 We’re told Dedele will recover from what happens to her, but we don’t actually see her to know that。 And the whole ending is a generic “this was a hard thing for Karina to accomplish but she eventually did it” kind of hand wavy explanation。 Do not get me started on how her ending with Malik was。 😑It really should’ve been three books。 I wanted that extra political stuff fleshed out! I wanted to see where Malik found his sisters! I wanted to see Malik and Karina stay together!! Honestly, using Hyena/a griot to give you a glimpse at their future kind of seemed like a major cop out。 So, 4 stars because I really did enjoy it up until about 95% of the way through, and hated the last 5%。 🤷🏻‍♀️ 。。。more

I'd waited and waited and when it was finally on Edelweiss, I downloaded it right away but had to wait for the right time because I loved how the first one wove a story that if I read the next one, it would be all over too fast。 This is a worthy sequel that builds the suspense, the romance, the enemies to lovers, the questions about the riddles and vengeance, and family history all to create another equally dynastic story where Malik needs to bring Karina, who has left the palace back to set thi I'd waited and waited and when it was finally on Edelweiss, I downloaded it right away but had to wait for the right time because I loved how the first one wove a story that if I read the next one, it would be all over too fast。 This is a worthy sequel that builds the suspense, the romance, the enemies to lovers, the questions about the riddles and vengeance, and family history all to create another equally dynastic story where Malik needs to bring Karina, who has left the palace back to set things right because they are in chaos and disorder from how it ended at the end of Solstasia。 Of course Karina has her own plans and Malik has his own reasons。 It's the push/pull between obligation and necessity and saving the kingdom from ruin when there has already been death and destruction but they must cast out the evil and welcome back in the calm celebration of a storied family。 It's a little more drawn out, I think the sequences could have moved a little faster in places, and of course an ending like that。。。 well。 "The princess opened her eyes, and that was when she saw it: for a single instant, less time than it took a butterfly to take flight or a dead man to breathe his last, every drop of rain hung suspended in the air like a thousand tiny pearls。""The true Hanane had died ten years ago, not matter what Farid believed。 That thing that had crawled out of the fire was no more Karina's sister than Malik was Karina's ally。""'In Eshra, whenever a baby is born, the family plants them a tree so their soul will have a place to come back to if they ever feel like visiting the human realm after they pass。 This one is mine。'" 。。。more
