（J。S。 recommendation） I recommend this book to readers because， it has the perfect blend of excitement， fantasy， suspense， fun and mystery all at the same time。 The main character， Sophie Foster， is a 12- year-old prodigy in her senior year of high school。 On a school trip， she meets a boy with teal eyes who takes her to The Lost Cities。 This book will have you flying through its pages in no time。 I would rate this book 5 stars。

Was für ein spannender Auftakt！Sophie fühlt sich seit ihrem fünften Lebensjahr fehl am Platz。 Seit einem Unfall， bei dem sie sich den Kopf stark gestoßen hat， kann sie die Gedanken ihrer Mitmenschen hören。 Doch es gelingt ihr nicht， diese Fähigkeit unter Kontrolle zu bringen。 Doch dies ist es nicht allein， was sie von ihren Schulkameraden unterscheidet: Sophie ist zudem um Längen intelligenter als alle anderen， hinzu kommt ihr fotografisches Gedächtnis， sodass sie einmal in der Zeitung als ‚Wund Was für ein spannender Auftakt！Sophie fühlt sich seit ihrem fünften Lebensjahr fehl am Platz。 Seit einem Unfall， bei dem sie sich den Kopf stark gestoßen hat， kann sie die Gedanken ihrer Mitmenschen hören。 Doch es gelingt ihr nicht， diese Fähigkeit unter Kontrolle zu bringen。 Doch dies ist es nicht allein， was sie von ihren Schulkameraden unterscheidet: Sophie ist zudem um Längen intelligenter als alle anderen， hinzu kommt ihr fotografisches Gedächtnis， sodass sie einmal in der Zeitung als ‚Wunderkind‘ bezeichnet wurde。 Bei einem Schulausflug trifft sie auf einen gutaussehenden Jungen namens Fitz， der ebenso wie sie Gedankenlesen kann。 Er offenbart ihr， dass sie gar kein Mensch， sondern eine Elfe ist， die eigentlich nicht unter Menschen leben。 Somit muss Sophie ihre Menschenfamilie verlassen und ab sofort eine Eliteschule für junge Elfen besuchen。 Ihre Herkunft muss jedoch ein Geheimnis bleiben。。。 Denn eine Frage kann ihr niemand beantworten: Warum ist sie bei den Menschen aufgewachsen？Wow！ Mich konnte die Geschichte vollkommen fesseln！ Ich bin ohne Erwartungen an die Reihe herangegangen und wurde positiv überrascht。 Die Story ist spannend， unvorhersehbar， emotional und auch magisch。 Trotz ihrer Länge ist die Geschichte nie langatmig oder langweilig， im Gegenteil: Ich konnte durch die oftmals sehr ausführlichen Abschnitte eine starke Verbindung zur Protagonistin Sophie aufbauen und gemeinsam mit ihr alle Höhen und Tiefen ihrer Emotion durchleben。 Ihre Entwicklung ist gut nachvollziehbar und ihr Charakter ist altersgemäß angelegt。 Trotz dieser starken Protagonistin bleiben die Nebenfiguren auf keinen Fall blass， sondern stehen jede für sich mit ihren unverkennbaren Eigenschaften。 Ich bin ein großer Fan von Dex geworden， auch wenn er sich so manches Mal zu sehr in seiner Opferrolle suhlt。。。 Und wer den Elfenarzt nicht lieb gewinnt， dem kann nicht mehr geholfen werden！ Doch hier lagen in der Hörbuchversion zunächst auch meine Startschwierigkeiten: Die Unterscheidung der zahlreichen Figuren fiel mir am Anfang doch noch recht schwer。 Doch wenn man sich erst einmal in die feinen Nuancen der Klangfarben und der Interpretation des Sprechers eingehört hat， war es im Verlauf kein Problem mehr。 Der Weltenaufbau ist unglaublich vielfältig und teilweise an die Mythologie angelehnt， zum Beispiel in Bezug auf die Stadt Atlantis。 Auch der Schulalltag ist detailreich， spannend und authentisch dargestellt， besonders wenn es um Freund- und Feindschaften geht。 Die Themen der Geschichte entwickeln sich klar erkennbar: Geheimnisse， Verrat， Verlust und dessen Bewältigung， Andersartigkeit， Freundschaft und Zusammenhalt， aber auch ein gewisses Maß an Gesellschaftskritik klingt für mich durch。 Fans von Harry Potter und des „Magic Park“ von Tui。 T。 Sutherland dürften ihre Freude haben an dieser Geschichte。 Und es warten ja bereits acht weitere Bände！ Es gibt also noch viel zu erzählen und zu erleben， darauf bin ich sehr gespannt！ Eine Frage stellte sich mir jedoch: Gibt es einen Übersetzungsfehler bzw。 eine Uminterpretation？ „Lost Cities“ wird im Deutschen mit „verbotene Städte“ übersetzt – da besteht aber für mich ein großer Unterscheid， ob sie ‚verloren‘ oder ‚verboten‘ sind。。。 。。。more

Hey， look， it's one of those book series where the author is so lazy they can't be bothered to come up with a separate series and book title and just smashes the two of them together。 Even though this book could very easily have been called 'Telepath' or whatever。 But fine。I must say I wasn't all too convinced on actually reading it， because something in the synopsis felt。。。 off to me。 But I tried anyway - and boy， was I in for a treat。Maybe I should first and foremost warn you that this series Hey， look， it's one of those book series where the author is so lazy they can't be bothered to come up with a separate series and book title and just smashes the two of them together。 Even though this book could very easily have been called 'Telepath' or whatever。 But fine。I must say I wasn't all too convinced on actually reading it， because something in the synopsis felt。。。 off to me。 But I tried anyway - and boy， was I in for a treat。Maybe I should first and foremost warn you that this series will eventually consist of ten books and only the first one already has 488 pages。 Yup。The main character is called Sophie， and she is what most people would probably call a （Very） Special Snowflake。 As in: If she can do something that no one else can， or Shannon Messenger found another way to make her stand out even more - then she will have done so。 Don't get me wrong: There are times when I do get annoyed by it。 But honestly， Messenger could have done anything she liked with Sophie， even making her fly or something， and I still would have thought that she's awesome。 Because Sophie is awesome， oh my。 She's such a strong， well-rounded character。 Clever， brave， funny， everything a protagonist should be。 Absolutely amazing。 Very often， when a character grows throughout a book （series）， I notice how they're behaving when they find out that their whole life is a lie， and apart from the fact that they're - logically - shocked， they also seem to forget everything that has to do with rational and logical thinking， too。 But no matter what is thrown into Sophie's plate - don't worry， she'll deal with it。 Swiftly and cleverly。 She's simply fantastic。As are the other characters as well。 It's a big cast， with several smaller and more important characters and they all have their own backgrounds and ways of behaving， from Sophie's friends to her Mentors。 The only trouble is that， at one point， some of them are introduced rather quickly after each other and I lost my way among them somewhat。 Thankfully， there are almost five hundred pages to get to know them better。 The only thing about all the characters that I didn't really get was why Sophie's foster parents start acting weird after a while。 Or， well， I get why they're doing it， but I don't really get why it's in the book， because it doesn't add much to the story。And there were a few smaller elements as well that I didn't really like， but the keyword is 'small'。 Overall， the plot was fantastic。 Filled to the brim with so much original worldbuilding， scenes of Sophie learning all kinds of new things， and her investigating everything that's going on。 Which is A Lot， believe me。 And whatever happens - however many tribunals she has to face， hahah - she never backs down， she always moves on， and so does the story。 The pacing is fabulous。 Throughout the book， the plot thickens and all kinds of new mysteries regarding Sophie's and the elfs' backgrounds start popping up。 And actually， not very much of them are explained yet。 There's still so much we don't know。I love this。8。2/10 。。。more

Fun Series Opener4½ stars。 I probably wouldn't have ever heard of or decided to read this series if I hadn't run into this first book free on Kindle Unlimited！ This is one of the things that is so great about Kindle Unlimited: finding new authors & series that aren't as mainstream but are just as awesome & well-written as anything on the bestseller list。Though Keeper of the Lost Cities is technically a middle grade book， I completely enjoyed it at almost 40 years old。 The writing isn't dumbed do Fun Series Opener4½ stars。 I probably wouldn't have ever heard of or decided to read this series if I hadn't run into this first book free on Kindle Unlimited！ This is one of the things that is so great about Kindle Unlimited: finding new authors & series that aren't as mainstream but are just as awesome & well-written as anything on the bestseller list。Though Keeper of the Lost Cities is technically a middle grade book， I completely enjoyed it at almost 40 years old。 The writing isn't dumbed down and the plotting is suitably complex to stand with some of the better YA books I have read。 For me， this was one of those books that I couldn't put down because I was forever going to read "just one more chapter！" This story is quite fast paced and the world of the lost cities is a lot of fun。 In other reviews and commentary， it garnered a lot of comparisons to Harry Potter， and while there are definitely some similarities， I think that there are more than enough differences that it stands firmly on its own。 The worldbuilding was one of my favorite parts。 There are all manner of interesting creatures， potions， powers， etc， that I can't wait to see more of in upcoming books。One thing I liked a lot was that it didn't end on a cliffhanger。 Yes， there is quite a bit of setup for subsequent novels， and there is an underlying mystery that will surely serve as plot throughout the entire series， but all of the major aspects of this book were wrapped up neatly， with a definitive end。 So often these days I find books that seem to end in partway through， leaving a significant part of the action in the next book as an incentive to keep readers coming back。 A good book doesn't need to rely on a dramatic cliffhanger as a gimmick， and I was glad that KotLC does not。 I will be excitedly diving into the second book all the same！Overall this is a fun read for kids and adults alike。 There isn't any cursing or sexual situations， this is a clean read that I think parents should feel good about giving to their kids。 There are a couple of sad parts & parts that might be a bit scary to young children but it all works out okay in the end。 If you are a fan of magic & fantasy， or coming-of-age & chosen-one tropes， then I'm sure you'll enjoy this fast-paced， clever series opener。 。。。more

Words cannot describe how much I love this book series。 Reading this series again was a very nostalgic moment for me， considering that I first read it when I was 18/19。Even though its a book meant for younger audiences， its still a fun and interesting read for adults。
