Summary

A hilarious, irreverent book about doing your own thing

Meet Iggy Peck—creative, independent, and not afraid to express himself! In the spirit of David Shannon’s No, David and Rosemary Wells’s Noisy NoraIggy Peck will delight readers looking for irreverent, inspired fun。

Iggy has one passion: building。 His parents are proud of his fabulous creations, though they’re sometimes surprised by his materials—who could forget the tower he built of dirty diapers? When his second-grade teacher declares her dislike of architecture, Iggy faces a challenge。 He loves building too much to give it up! With Andrea Beaty’s irresistible rhyming text and David Roberts’s puckish illustrations, this book will charm creative kids everywhere, and amuse their sometimes bewildered parents。

Also from the powerhouse author-illustrator team of Iggy Peck, Architect, is Rosie Revere, Engineer, a charming, witty picture book about believing in yourself and pursuing your passion。 Ada Twist, Scientist, the companion picture book featuring the next kid from Iggy Peck's class, is available in September 2016。

This might be my favorite Questioneer book so far。 We loved recognizing Rosie and Ada in the illustrations of Iggy Peck's class, which got us wishing for books about the other classmates。 We tried to predict who the red-haired boy might be, and were pleased to discover that the brunette girl with the three white barrettes has her own book, Sofia Valdez, Future Prez。Iggy Peck is clever and fun。 "It all became clear to Miss Lila Greer, as she crossed that bridge over the stream。 There are worse th This might be my favorite Questioneer book so far。 We loved recognizing Rosie and Ada in the illustrations of Iggy Peck's class, which got us wishing for books about the other classmates。 We tried to predict who the red-haired boy might be, and were pleased to discover that the brunette girl with the three white barrettes has her own book, Sofia Valdez, Future Prez。Iggy Peck is clever and fun。 "It all became clear to Miss Lila Greer, as she crossed that bridge over the stream。 There are worse things to do when you're in grade two than to spend your time building a dream。"Story: 5Illustrations: 5Read-aloud: 5 。。。more

I don’t know why it took me so long to include in my “Have read” shelf all the kids books I’ve read over the years to my kids!! I read a lot to my boys, and reading is reading! Of course I can’t go way back to every book I’ve ever read to my boys, so I’m starting with the most recent ones。 This is a newish book I bought for my youngest and we both love it so much! I feel like all the books in this series are good。 We just got Rose Revere and Sophia Valdez out of the library, so I'll see if I hold onto that theory, but if you read and liked Ada Twist, you'll like this one。 The only drawbacks are - the premise of the teacher "hating" architecture is a bit ludicrous, but if you just go with it it's fine, and of course having a white male protagonist is less strong/interesting in a STEM book than having a female/BIPOC character。In any case, like all these sto I feel like all the books in this series are good。 We just got Rose Revere and Sophia Valdez out of the library, so I'll see if I hold onto that theory, but if you read and liked Ada Twist, you'll like this one。 The only drawbacks are - the premise of the teacher "hating" architecture is a bit ludicrous, but if you just go with it it's fine, and of course having a white male protagonist is less strong/interesting in a STEM book than having a female/BIPOC character。In any case, like all these stories, the rhythm is great, the drawings are engaging, and it weaves in STEM info and themes seamlessly without being preachy or annoying about it。 My four year old really liked it and kept wanting it at bedtime, when I find it a bit long, actually! 。。。more

I loved this book! The illustrations are so good, and I love particularly the detail and diversity of all of the students。 This diversity can be seen on page 11。 I think it is so important to show students representation in the literature we read in our classrooms。 As a teacher, this book can be used to talk about different occupations。 It would also work well when teaching rhyming words!

In this story of a young man who begins to build things out of household objects and food at three years old, you will learn that everyone has a passion and a purpose and it is important for them to practice their passion and purpose。 Iggy loved building things and when he got to the second grade his teacher would not allow it but she soon realized there was nothing wrong with him doing this。 Overall, I thought it was a really cute story and can be inspiring for young children。 In my future clas In this story of a young man who begins to build things out of household objects and food at three years old, you will learn that everyone has a passion and a purpose and it is important for them to practice their passion and purpose。 Iggy loved building things and when he got to the second grade his teacher would not allow it but she soon realized there was nothing wrong with him doing this。 Overall, I thought it was a really cute story and can be inspiring for young children。 In my future classroom, I would use this book to discuss the topic of passion and purpose with my children。 I would read the book to them and then ask them after to write down something that they loved doing as much as Iggy loved building。 。。。more

after reading this book it is pretty clear that iggy is not a normal toddler but rather a toddler who is so creative that he builds stuff even out of his diapers (which were all dirty)。 Just like any kid though iggy has a bump in the road when he goes to second grade and meets someone who is against what he loves most。 Although he was told to not do what he loved in the end what he loved is the only reason his teacher and class were saved。 as a future teacher, I would use this book in a lesson a after reading this book it is pretty clear that iggy is not a normal toddler but rather a toddler who is so creative that he builds stuff even out of his diapers (which were all dirty)。 Just like any kid though iggy has a bump in the road when he goes to second grade and meets someone who is against what he loves most。 Although he was told to not do what he loved in the end what he loved is the only reason his teacher and class were saved。 as a future teacher, I would use this book in a lesson about geography, when teaching about the different monuments and the history behind them I would then ask the students to find any supplies they can around the classroom and try to create their own monument。 。。。more

This is a heart warming book about following your dreams。 It is charming, funny, and full of engaging animation。 Iggy Peck has a very supportive family, but when faced with an unsupportive and strict teacher, his tenacity is put to the test。 He loves to be creative and build things out of any material he can find, even his diapers! When he is faced with disapproval, Iggy still follows his heart and ends up saving his whole class and teacher! In my future classroom I would incorporate this book in a lesson when learning about famous architecture。 I would start the lesson off by explaining what architecture is, and then we would look at many different places around the world。 By reading this book it not only shows the students what different types of architecture is, but also how important it is to follow your dreams。 I would tell the students that none of these building would be here, if the architect didn't posses determination。 。。。more
