Summary

From bestselling author Scarlett St。 Clair comes a dark and enthralling reimagining of the Hades and Persephone Greek myth。

"Let me worship you," he said。
She remembered the words she had whispered to him in the back of the limo after La Rose。 "You will worship me, and I won't even have to order you。" His request felt sinful and devious, and she reveled in it。
She answered, "Yes。"

Persephone is the Goddess of Spring in title only。 Since she was a little girl, flowers have only shriveled at her touch。 After moving to New Athens, she hoped to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist。 All of that changes when she sits down in a forbidden nightclub to play a hand of cards with a hypnotic and mysterious stranger。

Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible。 But nothing has ever intrigued him as much as the goddess offering him a bargain he can't resist。

After her encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead, and his terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever。 The bet does more than expose Persephone's failure as a goddess, however。 As she struggles to sow the seeds of her freedom, love for the God of the Dead grows—a love that is both captivating and forbidden。

I've really liked the relationship between Hades and Persephone。 That was the reason why I decided to read this book in the first place and it did not disappoint。 However, I felt this book didn't really have a plot。 Don't get me wrong, I don't need one because the spicy scenes between hades and persephone were great。 But, it wouldn't be fair for other ratings。 I needed to address something from this book as well。 I don't know if the edition of my book was an early one but I found many typos。 Bot I've really liked the relationship between Hades and Persephone。 That was the reason why I decided to read this book in the first place and it did not disappoint。 However, I felt this book didn't really have a plot。 Don't get me wrong, I don't need one because the spicy scenes between hades and persephone were great。 But, it wouldn't be fair for other ratings。 I needed to address something from this book as well。 I don't know if the edition of my book was an early one but I found many typos。 Both in grammar and spelling。 Also, there was a tiny inconsistency in the narrative when persephone knew eurydice's name even though it was never acknowledged。 Other than that, I had a very nice time reading this。 If you are looking for a book that is easy to read, with romance and sexy scenes。 This is definitely your read。 。。。more

WOWOWOWWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW。 I need a minute。 This book was FANTASTIC。 I mean…you are sucked in from the first page。 I’m a huge fan of Greek mythology and this book absolutely does not disappoint。 It stays true to the Gods while adding incredibly relatable personalities。 The interactions between Persephone and Hades keep you on your toes, and the witty, clever comments between them had me smiling and laughing。 I cannot wait to read the rest of the series!! Definitely an all time favorite。

I really enjoy this book at first, but I feel like the bonus chapter of Haedes point of view wasn’t necessary。 I feel like his feelings were known in the end, but I feel it didn’t really need that part。 But other than that I really loved this book。 I listened to it on audio book and I was finished with it in 2 days!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I don't know what made this book so famous but I had to read it since everyone kept recommending it。 One reviewer called it a modern Au fanfic and yeah that fits it perfectly。 I liked that Persephone had character growth and desires, less so when they revolved around him (getting magic/getting pregnant)。 I liked that Hades had character growth and desires, less so when they revolved around her as well (being nicer/building a shelter)。 This is essentially porn with little plot book and nothing el I don't know what made this book so famous but I had to read it since everyone kept recommending it。 One reviewer called it a modern Au fanfic and yeah that fits it perfectly。 I liked that Persephone had character growth and desires, less so when they revolved around him (getting magic/getting pregnant)。 I liked that Hades had character growth and desires, less so when they revolved around her as well (being nicer/building a shelter)。 This is essentially porn with little plot book and nothing else, the characters don't really like each other other than their looks after all。 It's essentially got the writing of any other spicy story so I don't see what makes it so special。 I really wanted to like this fic, oups I meant book。 Hades x Persephone, slow burn, modern AU, Explicit, Greek mythos, abusive mom, pwp130,962 wordsThe tension, character interactions, banter, and flirtation, was really lovely; but unfortunately the characters seem to flip flop on their personalities。 One moment Hades is kind and caring, the next he's demanding and rude。 One moment Persephone is competent and a strong leader, the next she is putty and crying。 It got kind of boring at times and I couldn't really settle into the weird futuristic / modern times setting。 Despite the book leading up to them having sex, the sex was incredibly unfulfilling and a whopping two pages。 After that abysmal sex scene he "entered her" later in the garden in one lazy paragraph and then at a party and then when her mother catches them, it got so lazy and not sexy。 It takes all the fun out of a "will they won't they" when they just get horny for each other wildly and randomly。 Its just cringe at times with euphemisms of milking him and him going down on her for two licks and her coming from it like WHAT。 Persephone is a virgin and Hades is a horndog。 Boring boring boring。 He teaches this centuries (?) old goddess how to masturbate, I can't deal with this。 I liked this book all the way up to the middle when they were debating if Hades was a good person or not。 I thought this would be a pretty cool tale about a boss bitch falling in love with the demon god but alas all I got was a 50 shades/Twilight knock off。 Hades telling her what to do, her fighting him, him shoving his erection against her and dragging her away, her being shy about her feelings。 Sigh。 The stereotyping of men being unable to control their lust (also toxic masculinity) paired with every female character being mean or virginal in some way is ugh。 The writer includes a photo and paragraph of herself, including a lovely Tumblr poem tbh。 She is a pointy eyebrowed, overweight, Oklahoma woman married to man who I hope does a better job treating woman with respect than Hades, and man she just fits who I would picture writing this。 To no real surprise she thanks no history tomes and has no degree in writing or mythology。 The end。 。。。more

Oh, I've been getting back into mythology lately, and saw this on a list of "new" tellings of the classic myths。 Cool cool cool, I thought, as I added it on my Audible app。 Ummmm, this was basically 50 Shades of Grey starring Hades and Persephone。 Same bad writing, same character tropes, same giggle worthy smut, ugh。 I only finished it because it was killing time while working。 Oh, and the narrator was not great either。 The way she said the word "chest" 8000 times made me want to scream。 Oh, I've been getting back into mythology lately, and saw this on a list of "new" tellings of the classic myths。 Cool cool cool, I thought, as I added it on my Audible app。 Ummmm, this was basically 50 Shades of Grey starring Hades and Persephone。 Same bad writing, same character tropes, same giggle worthy smut, ugh。 I only finished it because it was killing time while working。 Oh, and the narrator was not great either。 The way she said the word "chest" 8000 times made me want to scream。 。。。more

Maybe I'm being picky, but if you're going to write a smut series, you shouldn't be afraid to use the words penis and vagina。Sex scenes are often 0-100 and then back from 100-0 in no time and left me either rolling my eyes or confused as to what had just happened。 There is literally a scene where Persephone is drugged and Hades is taking care of her in an innocent, caring way, and then she just swings onto his lap, feels "his arousal" and they go to town for a minute before he drops her back into her seat。 No discussion of her inability to consent, how the drug really affected her, and no warm up or cool down。Persephone is honestly annoying with, so far, no real character arch。 Hades is way too forgiving to her without any real conflict resolution。 The author relies heavily on The Fates bringing the two together, and so they are both just aroused by each other and lose their minds? Apparently? The formula is- Persephone does something she shouldn't because impatient/naive/bull headed/knows nothing about the Gods/Realms/etc。 Causes unseen consequences for Hades。 Hades is angry with her, but not really???, they ask each other some semi-related questions, then he makes out with her, varying degrees of sex acts occur quickly, and then one of them stops for some reason or another (someone walking in and deescalating the situation, he's convinced she doesn't want him (even though he can taste lies???? what???)) And then the cycle repeats and there is no real resolution。 They don't talk about these issues, they don't really resolve their feelings for one another, no one says sorry and means it, and neither really face much consequence for their actions。There is no skin in the game- I only care about these characters because it's a retelling of an age old story。 If this was a story with new characters, I would think it was silly。 Why should I care about these manufactured conflicts if they're willing to sabotage their own relationship and not put any effort other than fucking/almost fucking/hate-making out? With all that said, it's an easy read and even though I'm annoyed with many things about this story, it's not going to stop me from finishing it。 It's a decent enough story and concept with decent enough writing that I do want to know the ending, but I know I will continue to roll my eyes and ask "What???" out loud in confusion as I finish these last pages。Would I recommend it? No。 Would I say I regret reading it? Also no。 Will I pick up the rest of the books in the series? No。 。。。more
