Summary

I love where she has taken this world and these characters。 All of the stores coming together to this story has been delightful to read。 I always ache when someone I have come to love dies, but when these weird worlds collide, I am truly sucked in & decide to forgive her for the sake of the story。 The characters and witty and complex, & I love the storytelling style。 If you’re a fan of her books, you will love this one as well。 I’m excited to see where it goes because she always leaves it open f I love where she has taken this world and these characters。 All of the stores coming together to this story has been delightful to read。 I always ache when someone I have come to love dies, but when these weird worlds collide, I am truly sucked in & decide to forgive her for the sake of the story。 The characters and witty and complex, & I love the storytelling style。 If you’re a fan of her books, you will love this one as well。 I’m excited to see where it goes because she always leaves it open for more。 I also appreciate her love is love approach and how anyone who loves anyone else is not looked at as odd or different by those around them。 Makes me wish our real world was the same (maybe minus the demons…)。 。。。more

The scheming, the politics, the heist, warmongering - none of it was able to hold my interest。 The characters were flat, emotional scenes seemed empty。 Did her writing change? I felt very detached from the characters and instead of feeling for them in emotional scenes, I was very conscious of how out of character they acted, or how Bardugo tried to give the book some depth。 On the other hand, like other reviewers pointed out, certain moments felt very much like fan service。 I thought the Hanne-Nina storyline was tied up messily, Zoya's all powerfulness actually made me laugh out loud and why was Mayu even there? At times this book felt ridiculous, and that's not something I'm used to from Bardugo。 I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed。 That's all。Spoilers from here:Edit: After sleeping on it, I also want to add that the ways Zoya and Hanne/Nina come to power are just too convenient, and do not set up a healthy political situation for both Ravka and Fjerda。 We have Grisha on the thrown now - great。 But how is there going to be equity when you have people with Grisha powers vs normal people who don’t, and treat (certain) said Grisha as saints? Zoya being called Saintess as a Queen sets up so many problems, worshipping your leader on a spiritual level leaves you unable to criticize them。 As for Hanne and Nina, if they are ever found out, the Fjerdan people probably will feel like they have been manipulated into having Grisha royalty。 How is that going to help the status of the Grisha? It’s very likely that it would lead to a coup by a Grisha-opposed leader。 I would very much like to see the Grisha and ‘normal’ people living on equal terms, but I don’t see that happening this way。 And none of the characters voiced this critique, so I’m wondering if this is something Bardugo is going to touch upon at all。 。。。more

Tohle bylo něco úžasnýho。 Bardugo to prostě umí a já jsem naprosto unešena。 Ještě asi lepší než Zjizvený král。 Bylo to teda emočně hodně náročný ale stálo to za to。

This was a very satisfying book。 One thing that nags at me though is that Nikolai WAS a tailor? Like he changed his face himself?? And yet that is NEVER mentioned。 Not among his counselors, not in his POV, he doesn't exhibit Grisha senses like the others or ever use this power again。 Wtf。Other flaws: David。 Not okay。 I felt bringing back the original trilogy characters was unnecessary, though I did enjoy seeing the crows again。 I do not understand the reverence for Alina, who only did the bare m This was a very satisfying book。 One thing that nags at me though is that Nikolai WAS a tailor? Like he changed his face himself?? And yet that is NEVER mentioned。 Not among his counselors, not in his POV, he doesn't exhibit Grisha senses like the others or ever use this power again。 Wtf。Other flaws: David。 Not okay。 I felt bringing back the original trilogy characters was unnecessary, though I did enjoy seeing the crows again。 I do not understand the reverence for Alina, who only did the bare minimum to get by。 She didn't grind and live for it like Zoya and Nikolai, but she talks as if she's some wiser creature。 She had a few really good moments, but I don't care for her character (and I really don't like Mal or the Darkling)。 They act like she did so much when really all she did was leave competent, willing people in charge so she could run home and play wife。 I don't understand Zoya's respect for her when she really doesn't have many leadership skills and Zoya does。 Zoya trained most of her life to be a Grisha and worked to be the best; Alina hid from her power and dodged the responsibility that came with it as much as she reasonably could without wrecking everything。But other than that it was very fulfilling。 I would have liked to see Zoya teach others her Juris wisdom, but we see she had not fully mastered it herself and never has the time。 Perhaps she will now。 I want to see Grisha power transformed by her knowledge。 Zoya is everything Alina should have been。 Seeing Ehri and Nikolai chafe at their inherited leadership made me groan and grit my teeth - I hated the way Alina sloughed off her responsibility in the early books。 But Zoya hits leadership hard and never lets up - she absolutely deserves the position she has earned。 She clawed her way into responsibility and takes the full weight of it and works to make the world better every day。 I absolutely love that。 。。。more

Characters worth the time spentIf the author could only write as fast as we can read……I’m left just sad the book series is over。

I am in love with this book。 Loved everything about it, except for that one or two chapters。。。I was so happy when I saw little reunion of characters from the other books。 Perfect。 :)

All of the frustrating moments in the 6 books prior to this were absolutely worth this magnificent book。

I'm vacillating between 3。5 and 4 stars。 On the one hand, this really brings together all the Grishaverse in one (supposedly) final novel。 On the other hand, I felt like some characters were shoehorned in and not really done justice。 Other characters were given a pat ending that felt happy but also a little too convenient。 (view spoiler)[ Alina was barely in this, and Mal even less, and what parts they had were kind of lame, considering hers was the first story and a 3 book series。 I didn't like I'm vacillating between 3。5 and 4 stars。 On the one hand, this really brings together all the Grishaverse in one (supposedly) final novel。 On the other hand, I felt like some characters were shoehorned in and not really done justice。 Other characters were given a pat ending that felt happy but also a little too convenient。 (view spoiler)[ Alina was barely in this, and Mal even less, and what parts they had were kind of lame, considering hers was the first story and a 3 book series。 I didn't like that the Darkling was somehow justified at the end, very ambiguously。 Was it self-sacrifcing? Was it the ultimate act of egoism? Who knows。 What are we supposed to feel? I didn't like that Inej was shoehorned in and given a token moment at the end, while withholding the two things she really wanted: Kaz and meeting Sankta Alina。 Enough of my rants (hide spoiler)]But it mostly did keep me guessing, and I liked it overall。 。。。more

I loved it more than king of scars。It kept me hooked from right from beginning to end。It was satisfying to know that all of my favourite characters had quite a happy life ahead。I was so happy to see Kaz,inej and the king of crows family here and so excited to see them in new sequel which was hinted at last chapter。Genya could have had better ending。Darkling story was completed unexpected。I also loved the fact that Zoya and Nikolai ended together
