Summary
When Thorfinn's unparalleled strength as a fighter is confirmed， he is roped into combat as a top contender to lead the Jomsvikings。 Meanwhile， Floki plots to ensure that his grandson becomes successor， and send his subordinate Garm after Thorfinn。 Thorfinn soon finds himself cornered by the bloodthirsty Garm， a deadly spear fighter whose agility surpasses even his own。 Though Thorfinn attempts to evade the conflict， Garm uses a hostage to lure Thorfinn to Jomsborg - where a group of the fiercest warriors await。 Before long， the dispute over the Jomsvikings' leadership bleeds into King Canute's plans， and even lights a fire in Thorkell's battle-hungry heart。。。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 This has probably been my least favorite volume in the series so far。 All of the technical stuff is still there so it’s still a pleasure to read。 The problem is， is that the characters and their goal are starting to get jumbled。 There wasn’t really a resolution to anything in this volume and it seems like Torfinn and his friends really aren’t getting any closer to their goal unfortunately。 But I do like that Torfinn is going to be put into a compromising position with war and the Jomsvikings so This has probably been my least favorite volume in the series so far。 All of the technical stuff is still there so it’s still a pleasure to read。 The problem is， is that the characters and their goal are starting to get jumbled。 There wasn’t really a resolution to anything in this volume and it seems like Torfinn and his friends really aren’t getting any closer to their goal unfortunately。 But I do like that Torfinn is going to be put into a compromising position with war and the Jomsvikings so hopefully something cool happens there。 。。。more

10/10 I love Vinland Saga。 I think it continues to do an amazing job at protraying the time， the characters and the world itself。 Thorfinn's journey has really ramped up and Makoto Yukimura does a phenomenal job of showing the anguish he feels with his art。 Which is nothing short of phenomenal。 If you aren't reading this series and you are a fan of history， action， deep storytelling， and don't mind gore。。。。why aren't you reading this？ 10/10 I love Vinland Saga。 I think it continues to do an amazing job at protraying the time， the characters and the world itself。 Thorfinn's journey has really ramped up and Makoto Yukimura does a phenomenal job of showing the anguish he feels with his art。 Which is nothing short of phenomenal。 If you aren't reading this series and you are a fan of history， action， deep storytelling， and don't mind gore。。。。why aren't you reading this？ 。。。more

4，5/5。 Still great， but with minor complaints。 First one being the facts that they bring a lot of new characters recently， just drop them， not much background or depth， just pilling them up and also they look more and more like Asian classic manga characters and less like Vikings so。。。They also are more «funny» or using humor， which is okay， but got to be careful not put too much in my opinion。 Those characters are still good and fun， but just keep the main focus a bit off in my opinion。 Second， 4，5/5。 Still great， but with minor complaints。 First one being the facts that they bring a lot of new characters recently， just drop them， not much background or depth， just pilling them up and also they look more and more like Asian classic manga characters and less like Vikings so。。。They also are more «funny» or using humor， which is okay， but got to be careful not put too much in my opinion。 Those characters are still good and fun， but just keep the main focus a bit off in my opinion。 Second， and last， there was just two， and I think this one will be okay by the next volume， I miss Thorfinn in action， I want to get back at fighting， and know and respect the struggle to peacefulness and I hope he will reach it eventually， but maybe not that soon in the series。。。 I look like complaining but honestly this is still one of my top manga series。 Very entertaining， lot of action， strong story line， good historical background too， just minor minor elements I want to address here。 Still highly recommend！ 。。。more

This continues the War in the Baltic story and is great。 The large scale war and the political plotting and clever combat scenarios are what Vinland Saga does best so it's great to have some of this again。In addition Thorfinn is going to be tested in the next book about if he can continue down the path of pacifism。 Bringing back Thorkell is always a good thing and I'm glad he's around to give Garm some context and someone to play off of。 Really good book and I hope this trend continues。 This continues the War in the Baltic story and is great。 The large scale war and the political plotting and clever combat scenarios are what Vinland Saga does best so it's great to have some of this again。In addition Thorfinn is going to be tested in the next book about if he can continue down the path of pacifism。 Bringing back Thorkell is always a good thing and I'm glad he's around to give Garm some context and someone to play off of。 Really good book and I hope this trend continues。 。。。more

Vinland Saga is probably the best manga being produced right now。 As always， these Hardcover volumes are actually two volumes in one for American release。 So right now we're covering volume 19 and 20 from japan and it's a big turning points。 With a new character introduced he decides to do the unthinkable and kill a semi-major character。 In doing so we start a new war and Thorkill not has a new mission。 Thorfinn and his company are also， once again， trapped in the middle of people at war。 All th Vinland Saga is probably the best manga being produced right now。 As always， these Hardcover volumes are actually two volumes in one for American release。 So right now we're covering volume 19 and 20 from japan and it's a big turning points。 With a new character introduced he decides to do the unthinkable and kill a semi-major character。 In doing so we start a new war and Thorkill not has a new mission。 Thorfinn and his company are also， once again， trapped in the middle of people at war。 All they want is peace but it's never as simple as that。 With the group split up， will they be able to make it through or is this the end？ Lots of great moments covered here。 Some laugh out loud moments， especially at the start， and even a cute little chapter based on the doggie protecting the child。 But the violence doesn't take a backseat as some battles here are brutal as could be and deaths that'll make you go "oh shit。" Not to mention the 2nd half is one big war and it isn't even complete。 Talk about epic。 Vinland never lets up on it's relentless look into war and violence while having our hero try a new path。 I love the pushback on what you'd expect but instead get something different。 This remains as strong as ever with a 5 out of 5。 。。。more

Thorfinn has found himself in an untenable situation。 Floki wants to take over the Jomsborg viking enclave and make his young grandson the ruler。 The Jomsviking now know Thorfinn is alive and want him to rule。 Thorkell is around and just wants to kill people like usual。 There's a new enemy working with Garm， a young spearsman who is even faster and more deadly than Thorfinn。 Worse， he enjoys killing as much as Thorkell。 And somehow King Canute is involved but no one knows just how。 But the truly Thorfinn has found himself in an untenable situation。 Floki wants to take over the Jomsborg viking enclave and make his young grandson the ruler。 The Jomsviking now know Thorfinn is alive and want him to rule。 Thorkell is around and just wants to kill people like usual。 There's a new enemy working with Garm， a young spearsman who is even faster and more deadly than Thorfinn。 Worse， he enjoys killing as much as Thorkell。 And somehow King Canute is involved but no one knows just how。 But the truly bad part of this for Thorfinn is if he doesn't adhere to his promise to be a non-violent man， the revenge obsessed Hild will put a crossbolt into him before he can fight。 She's just the woman to do it， too。 But their friends have been kidnapped。 If Thorfinn doesn't fight， they'll die。 If he does fight， he'll die。We're starting to get back into what made Vinland Saga interesting， the Machiavellian plotting and Viking violence， after long chapters of Slave！Thorfinn farming。 It's so strange to me as I generally do not like endless fight scenes but I find this manga compelling （maybe because it's not the let's train train train and then fight stuff we see in so much of Shonen manga）。The art is so detailed and gorgeous as well。 I'm looking forward to seeing more。 。。。more
