I never could have thought that a book written in the point of view of a horse could move me the way War Horse did。As small as the book is, it did leave a big impression。 It's a breathtaking and tragic story from a horrific time, written in a way that we can feel how the unlikely characters of the great war felt。 I have never read a story about war that isn't in the POV of soldiers or other human victims。 So reading how a horse might feel during these times is truly refreshing。War Horse truly wr I never could have thought that a book written in the point of view of a horse could move me the way War Horse did。As small as the book is, it did leave a big impression。 It's a breathtaking and tragic story from a horrific time, written in a way that we can feel how the unlikely characters of the great war felt。 I have never read a story about war that isn't in the POV of soldiers or other human victims。 So reading how a horse might feel during these times is truly refreshing。War Horse truly wrecked me in a way that i never expected a children's book could wreck me。Seeing how Joey is a survivor with still so much love and trust for the race that did this to him is so moving。Joey is a very lovable, warm and caring character, you just root for him trough the whole story。 As well as his unbreakable bound with Albert, a bound that stood the test of time and war。 They learned a lot from each other, they grew because of each other。 This is a bound beautifully written without an overly complicated plot or plot twists。 It's just so pure。Even tough the book is aimed at 9-12 year olds, I highly recommend reading it as an adult to truly absorb what the story is about。And don't blame me when you shed a tear。。。 because you will。 。。。more

Sweet little story told from the horse’s perspective。 It’s less than 200 pages, so definitely a quick read。 I didn’t realize how heavily the Army relied on horses during WWI!

This book is just so good。 It is so emotional and Michael Morpurgo perfectly captures the stories of the characters in the tale and you get really invested。 My class and I loved this book!

Read it for school and the pacing personally wasn't for me (meaning Joey met and then left people too quickly imo) but it makes sense with how long the book is。 It was nice! So this book is from the point of view of a farm horse sent off to be a war horse in WWI。 Interesting story, though I have to warn you it's very sad at times。 Also the writing style reminds me of Black Beauty。 So this book is from the point of view of a farm horse sent off to be a war horse in WWI。 Interesting story, though I have to warn you it's very sad at times。 Also the writing style reminds me of Black Beauty。 。。。more

I loved that the story was narrated from Joey's point of view。 It's refreshing to read a story about the war from an animal's perspective。 It's beautifully written, gripping, heartbreaking and heartwarming。 Great to read with children when learning about WW1 and to imagine how animals might be experiencing events。 I loved that the story was narrated from Joey's point of view。 It's refreshing to read a story about the war from an animal's perspective。 It's beautifully written, gripping, heartbreaking and heartwarming。 Great to read with children when learning about WW1 and to imagine how animals might be experiencing events。 。。。more

Great book for all ages。 I don’t typically like animal books but this is not an annoying one。 A lot of the time, You forget that it’s a horse talking。 The narrator had good accents but was a bit monotone。

I wanted to read this for my school project, bc I wanted a little bit more insight into this story not just from the movie。 I expected it to be mediocre, but I was pleasantly surprised。 I really liked this book, I enjoyed it and I think it’s a beautiful story。

It's very touching and heartwarming children Novel, poignant for what it is 。。 set in 1980s and as soon as I heard the plot I know I would like it, who wouldn't? probably 4。5 starsI might have needed some time to adjust myself to the horse thinking in perfect English and understanding all languages, but once I got over that it was an excellent read。I zoomed through the book, and it was a book that wasn't afraid of telling harsh truths (about war, and what it does - it's both a good read and a good educator)。 Some parts I thought 'is that necessary?', but I won't spoil what。 And without them the book of course wouldn't be the same, and it is very good ind probably 4。5 starsI might have needed some time to adjust myself to the horse thinking in perfect English and understanding all languages, but once I got over that it was an excellent read。I zoomed through the book, and it was a book that wasn't afraid of telling harsh truths (about war, and what it does - it's both a good read and a good educator)。 Some parts I thought 'is that necessary?', but I won't spoil what。 And without them the book of course wouldn't be the same, and it is very good indeed。I'm sure this book will still be read by kids and adults alike for a long time to come。 。。。more

Finally I’ve read it! I first say the play over 10 years ago and was incredibly moved。 I bought the book but didn’t read it, instead watching the film at the cinema and seeing the play again。 So glad to have finally read it, it’s such a moving story and I love the artwork。 Totally recommend!

I had avoided this book, the movie, and the play fearful of a content that would deeply upset me。When I saw it was one of the books to be read @duchessofcornwallreadingroom I thought I may just give it a try and when I watched and listened to Sir Michael Morpurgo on the reading room feed and his love of horses I decided to begin。 It is a story of war, a story of love, and a lovely story of horses。

I loved this book。 I saw the very end of the movie waiting in a doctor’s office but never knew the name of it until The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room choose it。 I was so happy to come across it again and read the entire story。 It is a very simple, easy read but I loved the message and being told from the horse’s point of view was different yet perfect。 Joey didn’t choose a side, he simply knew when people were kind or cruel; it didn’t matter what “side” they were on。 His relationships with I loved this book。 I saw the very end of the movie waiting in a doctor’s office but never knew the name of it until The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room choose it。 I was so happy to come across it again and read the entire story。 It is a very simple, easy read but I loved the message and being told from the horse’s point of view was different yet perfect。 Joey didn’t choose a side, he simply knew when people were kind or cruel; it didn’t matter what “side” they were on。 His relationships with Zoey and Topthorn are beautiful and the ending is perfect。 Definitely a favorite。 。。。more
