My daughter absolutely loved having me read this with her。 She would ask me every morning to read a few pages to her。 She got a rock collection so this book captivated her with all it had to show and what she could learn。

This book although geared toward children, was fascinating。 It packs a ton of good information into an easy to read format。 I read it to prepare for an elementary science class I teach and ended up really enjoying it。 The pictures are rich and colorful and the information is written in bite size pieces that makes it easier for elementary readers。

Summary:"My Book of Rocks and Minerals" is all about different types of rocks。 It tells the reader the difference between a rock and mineral and how to find them。 It also tells the reader about the rock cycle, what a rock is, how a rock is made, how to cut a rock, how to identify different types of rocks and how to be safe doing all these things。 Evaluation:I enjoyed reading this book。 It's not a book that someone would sit down and read for enjoyment though (unless they really enjoyed reading a Summary:"My Book of Rocks and Minerals" is all about different types of rocks。 It tells the reader the difference between a rock and mineral and how to find them。 It also tells the reader about the rock cycle, what a rock is, how a rock is made, how to cut a rock, how to identify different types of rocks and how to be safe doing all these things。 Evaluation:I enjoyed reading this book。 It's not a book that someone would sit down and read for enjoyment though (unless they really enjoyed reading about rocks)。 This book would be used more for research。 I would recommend this book to students 2nd-5th because of how much information is packed on the pages。 Younger grades wouldn't be able to read all this information and comprehend it。 Teaching Point:This book does a great job of showing different types of rocks, the rock cycle, how to identify them, etc。 The teacher could read this book while the class is doing a unit on rocks。 She could split the book up and read a piece everyday that correlates with what they are studying in class。 For example, the teacher could read the section of the book on the rock cycle。 Then students could fill out their own rock cycle paper and create a presentation about the rock cycle, all using what they learned from the book。 。。。more

This is an excellent introduction to rocks and minerals and collecting。 Of course it is。 It's a Dorling Kindersley book。 DK books are like museums you can carry in your hand。 The photographs are always gorgeous and the text minimal and easy to follow。 Oh, I persuaded our head of department to buy more rock/mineral books and the others are good, but there's nothing like a DK book。 This is an excellent introduction to rocks and minerals and collecting。 Of course it is。 It's a Dorling Kindersley book。 DK books are like museums you can carry in your hand。 The photographs are always gorgeous and the text minimal and easy to follow。 Oh, I persuaded our head of department to buy more rock/mineral books and the others are good, but there's nothing like a DK book。 。。。more
