This wasn't my favorite book。 It dealt with riddles and puzzles more than I though it would。 I guess I thought it would involve using techniques more along the lines of being a forensic detective and tips on how to be more observant of your environment as well as enhancing your memory retention。 This wasn't my favorite book。 It dealt with riddles and puzzles more than I though it would。 I guess I thought it would involve using techniques more along the lines of being a forensic detective and tips on how to be more observant of your environment as well as enhancing your memory retention。 。。。more

Billige Denksportaufgaben, verpackt im Sherlock Holmes Universum。

Below average book about thinking like a ridiculous fictional character。 A couple of puzzles were good, though。

I did not finish this book。 I don’t know when I stopped reading it, but at one point I did。 It’s very boring。 It has some puzzles and exercises for your brain or something, but they’re not really interesting。 For most of them you need to know the Sherlock books, but I don’t know them actually。 Between the puzzles there’s some text about Sherlock, or it’s an introduction to the puzzles。 Anyway, it doesn’t really tell you ‘how to think like Sherlock Holmes’ in my opinion。 Maybe I’ll give this book I did not finish this book。 I don’t know when I stopped reading it, but at one point I did。 It’s very boring。 It has some puzzles and exercises for your brain or something, but they’re not really interesting。 For most of them you need to know the Sherlock books, but I don’t know them actually。 Between the puzzles there’s some text about Sherlock, or it’s an introduction to the puzzles。 Anyway, it doesn’t really tell you ‘how to think like Sherlock Holmes’ in my opinion。 Maybe I’ll give this book another chance at one point or another, but there’s a big change I won’t。 。。。more

A short, fun read with quizzes in between。I have never read or seen any original Sherlock Holmes books and whatever is out there, so I don’t have any references to review this accurately。 Fans might get more out of this, because of all the references and quotes。I loved detective stories as a child and always tried to guess who the murderer or criminal was (without much success)。 I think I‘d have liked this book when I was younger and wanted to know more about „how they do it“ and to play detecti A short, fun read with quizzes in between。I have never read or seen any original Sherlock Holmes books and whatever is out there, so I don’t have any references to review this accurately。 Fans might get more out of this, because of all the references and quotes。I loved detective stories as a child and always tried to guess who the murderer or criminal was (without much success)。 I think I‘d have liked this book when I was younger and wanted to know more about „how they do it“ and to play detective。 It’s pretty basic。 。。。more

Ended much stronger than it started, the tips near the end are far more practical than the milquetoast begining belies。But still not nearly as academically rigorous as I was hoping for

2。5 starsI guess this is kinda fun if you're into those quizzes in children's magazines and those traveling books you can buy so long train rides or flights don't bore you out of your mind, but I don't think anything in this book can give you the brain power, intelligence, brilliance and whatever of Sherlock Holmes。 Probably because he's a fictional character and the stories were all written to be solved by him。。 anyway, I personally am okay with my lack of brilliance, but I did expect this book 2。5 starsI guess this is kinda fun if you're into those quizzes in children's magazines and those traveling books you can buy so long train rides or flights don't bore you out of your mind, but I don't think anything in this book can give you the brain power, intelligence, brilliance and whatever of Sherlock Holmes。 Probably because he's a fictional character and the stories were all written to be solved by him。。 anyway, I personally am okay with my lack of brilliance, but I did expect this book to be a little more fun and a little more informative when it comes to honing your observation and people reading skills。 Maybe even just a little more explanation as to what exactly makes Sherlock Holmes the best detective in the world (again, aside from the small fact that his mysteries were supposed to be solved by him。。。), or maybe even some nods as to what modern day crime solving has in common with the Sherlock Holmes mysteries。 Instead the book is kinda accusatory in tone, some of the riddles are the kind of riddles you find in every TV show nowadays (because everything needs a mystery right? Right??? (The correct answer is: "Hell no, leave me alone with your mysteries!")) and to me personally the writing is just way too pretentious。The author also has some weird undertones when he talks about Sherlock Holmes and I'm kinda worried he's gonna come hunt me down if I admit to never having read a single Sherlock Holmes mystery。 (I'm sorry, okay, I just don't like crime or mysteries or classics! Please leave me alone!!) 。。。more

I think because I already was obsessed with Usborne Puzzle Adventures as a child and had a dad who taught me how to memorize binary code, there wasn't much new in this。 I did learn about Pigeon Ciphers though which was good。 I think because I already was obsessed with Usborne Puzzle Adventures as a child and had a dad who taught me how to memorize binary code, there wasn't much new in this。 I did learn about Pigeon Ciphers though which was good。 。。。more

Juvenile and uninterestingOnly kids and /or hardcore Holmes fans might enjoy。 Lots of quotes from Conan Doyle's epic saga strewn about may give fans of the classic some nostalgic moments。 Nothing new to learn here though, same old things like focus on everything, the devil is in the detail, train your mind, acquire knowledge etc。 A few pedestrian puzzles thrown in。 Not worth the time for the advanced reader but maybe good for elementary / young readers who are new to this kind of literature sinc Juvenile and uninterestingOnly kids and /or hardcore Holmes fans might enjoy。 Lots of quotes from Conan Doyle's epic saga strewn about may give fans of the classic some nostalgic moments。 Nothing new to learn here though, same old things like focus on everything, the devil is in the detail, train your mind, acquire knowledge etc。 A few pedestrian puzzles thrown in。 Not worth the time for the advanced reader but maybe good for elementary / young readers who are new to this kind of literature since it gives them the satisfaction of learning something which seems deep and insightful。 Although the advanced reader will find this one superficially deep or deeply superficial。 。。。more

Entertaining little book and I like the analogy used in System 1 & 2 respectively。

Most of the contents can be easily deduced (pun intended) from the books, so this felt like an unnecessary read。A lot of filler content such as "Memorize these objects" and lateral thinking puzzles (which are all inferior to other lateral thinking books, not to mention the internet)。Still, it could be amusing to people who haven't yet discovered the Sherlock Holmes books,so it gets two stars。 Most of the contents can be easily deduced (pun intended) from the books, so this felt like an unnecessary read。A lot of filler content such as "Memorize these objects" and lateral thinking puzzles (which are all inferior to other lateral thinking books, not to mention the internet)。Still, it could be amusing to people who haven't yet discovered the Sherlock Holmes books,so it gets two stars。 。。。more

Basically, this book advises you to observe things to be more like Sherlock in your thinking。 It doesn't describe how to be more observant! Basically, this book advises you to observe things to be more like Sherlock in your thinking。 It doesn't describe how to be more observant! 。。。more

2。5*。This book really does fall into the bracket of an average read。 Going into it, I expected to learn about the skills of deduction, basic principles of body language, maybe some interesting exercises you can do to test your skills etc。 But unfortunately I was quite off the mark。 Don't get me wrong, you have the odd page about the topics mentioned and the psychology of Sherlock Holmes, and these small snippets were fascinating, but that was the problem, they were small snippets。 The bulk of th 2。5*。This book really does fall into the bracket of an average read。 Going into it, I expected to learn about the skills of deduction, basic principles of body language, maybe some interesting exercises you can do to test your skills etc。 But unfortunately I was quite off the mark。 Don't get me wrong, you have the odd page about the topics mentioned and the psychology of Sherlock Holmes, and these small snippets were fascinating, but that was the problem, they were small snippets。 The bulk of this book is quoting Conan Doyals original work, and reflecting on it。。。 the author has pretty much taken chunks of his favourite Sherlock stories, written a breif synopsis of what these scenes tell us about Sherlock, and tried making money of it? Since I do love Sherlock, I got some enjoyment from reading about the original series, but that isn't what this book was meant to be about。。。 。。。more

I found this book a delightfully entertaining read。 Being an author of occult mystery and detective novels, I would recommend it to anyone who is an avid collector of Holmesian technique。 The inclusion of the puzzles as examples really helps bolster the author's apparent in depth study of the Great Detective。 Many of them stumped me but I have every intention of delving deeper when time allows。 I found this book a delightfully entertaining read。 Being an author of occult mystery and detective novels, I would recommend it to anyone who is an avid collector of Holmesian technique。 The inclusion of the puzzles as examples really helps bolster the author's apparent in depth study of the Great Detective。 Many of them stumped me but I have every intention of delving deeper when time allows。 。。。more

Enjoyable little book to read if you are a fan of the great detective。 Very basic information that serves as more of a brief introduction to what actually occurs in actual investigations than any kind of how to style book。
