Summary

Stephen Hawking was recognized as one of the greatest minds of our time and a figure of inspiration after defying his ALS diagnosis at age twenty-one。 He is known for both his breakthroughs in theoretical physics as well as his ability to make complex concepts accessible for all, and was beloved for his mischievous sense of humor。 At the time of his death, Hawking was working on a final project: a book compiling his answers to the "big" questions that he was so often posed--questions that ranged beyond his academic field。

Within these pages, he provides his personal views on our biggest challenges as a human race, and where we, as a planet, are heading next。 Each section will be introduced by a leading thinker offering his or her own insight into Professor Hawking's contribution to our understanding。

Wow, what a fascinating book。 Honestly, my brain couldn't fully understand probably 95% of it but it sparked a real curiosity in me that will definitely continue on。 Wow, what a fascinating book。 Honestly, my brain couldn't fully understand probably 95% of it but it sparked a real curiosity in me that will definitely continue on。 。。。more

I love Stephen Hawking's dedication to educate everyone about science in a way that's understandable and fun for everyone。 It's really enjoyable and well written, you can almost hear him talk as you're reading it。 I love Stephen Hawking's dedication to educate everyone about science in a way that's understandable and fun for everyone。 It's really enjoyable and well written, you can almost hear him talk as you're reading it。 。。。more

Hawking’s selected writings for this book really come together nicely, although a bit repetitive at times, and with an introduction and afterword not as enthralling as expected。 This is not only science for the masses, but an optimistic look at how humanity can tackle some of its biggest challenges。

Great book by a true legend。 I never have read any of the theories that he proposed, but this book makes me want to。 After watching the Theory of Everything, I was encouraged to read this book, in which complex topics are explained in an easy way。 It always makes you think about the endless possibilities in which human kind is surrounded

A bit repetitive and not too technical。 A series of questions about the Universe and our relationship to it/in it。 Dr。 Hawking does a good job of opining based on his intuitive thinking and his great understanding of mathematics。 No one can really know the future but Dr。 Hawking gives it his best。 He calls on his research and the research of many others he has worked with or studied。 A pretty easy read and builds on the other book that I am currently reading。

Very readable! When Stephen Hawking is at his best, his explanations are a revelation。 He really had the ability to explain really difficult subjects in a way that anybody (well, almost) who wants to understand sort of what it is about will not be disappointed。 Sometimes, the book is a bit repetitious, and some of Hawking's answers are in a field that he's not an expert, and that shows。 It's still cool that he's trying to give answers to questions about everything from space travel to environmen Very readable! I gave this book a 5 star rating! To be honest, I clearly did not understand everything written within it's pages, but this powerful book OPENED my mind, curiosity and desire to learn more。 Also, whatever limitations we have, find a way around those limitations and go for it! Hawking is one of the greatest minds of all human history but this book fell flat for me。 Hawking connects everything back theoretical Physics and spends way too much time talking about things that are quite boring。 I know this was his area of expertise but it is misleading from what the book is marketed as in my opinion。 If you are interested in the universe or life’s great questions/debates there are other books I would recommend over this one。

Stephen Hawing takes on some of the big topics such as is there life on other planets and is time travel possible。 I've read his other books A Brief History of Time and The Grand Design and this is easily the most accessible of his books so to anyone new to Hawking this is a good entry point。 That doesn't mean it's easy reading throughout as when he talks about string theory and M-theory I definitely re-read some paragraphs and even then didn't grasp it fully。 Hawking writes eloquently and with Stephen Hawing takes on some of the big topics such as is there life on other planets and is time travel possible。 I've read his other books A Brief History of Time and The Grand Design and this is easily the most accessible of his books so to anyone new to Hawking this is a good entry point。 That doesn't mean it's easy reading throughout as when he talks about string theory and M-theory I definitely re-read some paragraphs and even then didn't grasp it fully。 Hawking writes eloquently and with a charming dry humour and if it's hard to understand in parts that's largely because the concepts he's exploring are so hard to wrap your head around。 I didn't get as much out of this books as some chapters re-tread material from his previous books and others, such as the future of artificial intelligence, are subjects that I've read entire books on。 The most interesting for me was the section on time travel as it brought up issues I hadn't considered。 Despite the fact I knew some of the material it was an enjoyable and stimulating read, and it's very sad to know this is the last book he wrote and there won't be any further books of his for me to read。 。。。more
