Miss Marple's last case。

The owner of a seaside villa is plagued by strange feelings about its past…

Soon after Gwenda moved into her new home, odd things started to happen。 Despite her best efforts to modernize the house, she only succeeded in dredging up its past。 Worse, she felt an irrational sense of terror every time she climbed the stairs…

In fear, Gwenda turned to Miss Marple to exorcise her ghosts。 Between them, they were to solve a ‘perfect’ crime committed many years before。

Short and sweet。 It did make me want to read the previous stories featuring Miss Marple。 She is a delightful characters。 Was she the inspiration for Murder She Wrote? Thats what this story reminded me of。

Agatha Christie, you devil! I was sure I knew whodunnit early on, then she convinced me otherwise, when my first instinct was right all along。

به نظرم یکی از ضعیف‌ترین کارهای آگاتا کریستی بود البته اگر در ترجمه و انتشار سانسوری اتفاق نیفتاده باشه。

My very first Miss Marple and I really liked the way it turned out。 For the first time ever, I was correct about the murderer from the beginning。 Not that I had strong points to confirm my theory but at least 65%-70% I was sure because the other possibles were kind of red herrings for me。 But again this is Christie we are speaking of。 You could be correct from the very start and then get fooled at the end or vice versa。 Everything in this book was true to the Agatha Christie style but the major My very first Miss Marple and I really liked the way it turned out。 For the first time ever, I was correct about the murderer from the beginning。 Not that I had strong points to confirm my theory but at least 65%-70% I was sure because the other possibles were kind of red herrings for me。 But again this is Christie we are speaking of。 You could be correct from the very start and then get fooled at the end or vice versa。 Everything in this book was true to the Agatha Christie style but the major change for me was the crime solver。 As a Poirot fan I couldn't help but compare the two of them and as I was doing so I found how very different is their whole process of solving the crime。 Hercule Poirot is a real detective so in this sphere he has a lot of advantages。 People are aware of his intellect when he questions them whereas, Miss Marple is a sort of a person who depends solely on her intuition and what she sees, listens and hears。 She kind of opens the truth through random, mundane yet interesting conversations with the characters。 Overall, I don't know if it is my favorite Marple story yet as I have begun my journey with her last case but I am looking forward to reading the other stories。 。。。more

And someone quoted from the exact play that Gwenda saw in London?Gwenda and Giles start digging into the mystery。 Miss Marple has gone home but she is uneasy。 Sometimes digging into the past brings up more than skeletons and someone who may have only meant to murder once, might murder again to keep it covered up。An enjoyable story。 Perhaps, not quite fairly clued but a fitting end to the Marple series。 。。。more

An enjoyable adventure with a pretty lacking Miss Marple presence, I enjoyed the way she flitted in and out of the story and how the murder took centre stage as a result, but I did feel she was a little robbed as such a secondary character。

One of Christie's best。 Even though I predicted the murderer halfway through, it was still an extremely exciting and suspenseful ride。 Something about cold cases being solved is just so much more rewarding。 One of Christie's best。 Even though I predicted the murderer halfway through, it was still an extremely exciting and suspenseful ride。 Something about cold cases being solved is just so much more rewarding。 。。。more

This was a re-read or maybe even re-read of re-read which just emphasizes how good these Agatha Christie books are。 Even though I knew the story and who the murdered is, the book kept me hooked again from the start to finish。 The atmosphere was just so thrilling and yet so warm and cozy, just like in all of the lovely Miss Marple books。

BEWARE!! Jump scares in the audiobook。 This is a one star for me。 The audiobook begins with about 5 seconds of high-pitched screaming and my mentally ill ass can’t take that shit。

I very, very much enjoyed this Agatha Christie book。 Gwenda Reed has arrived from New Zealand to find a cozy old house in England for her and her husband, who she just married, to live in。 But the house turns out to have a past。 At first she likes to investigate with her husband what happened in the past, but soon they come across a murder。 A murder that happened 18 years ago。 They are not even sure if there was a murder or not in the first place。 Miss Marple advises her to put the past to rest。 I very, very much enjoyed this Agatha Christie book。 Gwenda Reed has arrived from New Zealand to find a cozy old house in England for her and her husband, who she just married, to live in。 But the house turns out to have a past。 At first she likes to investigate with her husband what happened in the past, but soon they come across a murder。 A murder that happened 18 years ago。 They are not even sure if there was a murder or not in the first place。 Miss Marple advises her to put the past to rest。。。 but it is already too late。I loved the storyline that Gwenda lived in the house when she was a young girl。 In her mind she sees the murder, she feels like she must have witnessed it。 But what exactly happened, she doesn't know。 Miss Marple is really a side character in this book and not a main character。 Gwenda and Giles do most of the investigating, but Miss Marple does stick her nose in here and there to gather up some information。Like Gwenda, the reader is thrown left and right when more about her past, the house and the murder comes up。 I had no idea who the murderer was, right up until the very moment it was revealed。 I was very much betting on the wrong horse。 The story is well-written with a good flow and you don't want to stop reading。 。。。more

Gwenda and Giles were an interesting pair。 They reminded me of Tommy and Tuppence, at the very end。 Miss Marple had a major role to play, as the lead couple use her acquaintances and distant friends as crutches in order to meet the possible perpetrators- and she did complete justice to the extent of her presence throughout。(view spoiler)[I had a niggling thought at the back of my mind that Dr。 Kennedy was a bit too standoffish at the very beginning, when he should have been overjoyed at getting Gwenda and Giles were an interesting pair。 They reminded me of Tommy and Tuppence, at the very end。 Miss Marple had a major role to play, as the lead couple use her acquaintances and distant friends as crutches in order to meet the possible perpetrators- and she did complete justice to the extent of her presence throughout。(view spoiler)[I had a niggling thought at the back of my mind that Dr。 Kennedy was a bit too standoffish at the very beginning, when he should have been overjoyed at getting to meet Gwennie if he'd played with her as a child。 The final nail in the coffin for him was the realisation that he could have very well asked Lily to take an earlier train as no one else could have had the knowledge of their correspondence。(hide spoiler)] 。。。more
