Summary

'I want a change。 To be in the midst of things - exciting things - even if I'm only the looker-on。 You know, things don't happen in St Mary Mead。'

When the luxurious Blue Train arrives at Nice, a guard attempts to wake Ruth Kettering from her slumbers。 But she will never wake again - for a heavy blow has killed her, disfiguring her features almost beyond recognition。 What is more, her precious rubies are missing。

The prime suspect is Ruth's estranged husband, Derek。 Yet Poirot is not convinced, so he stages an eerie re-enactment of the journey, complete with the murderer on board。。。

"Masterly。。。 the reader will not be disappointed。"
TIMES LITERARY SUPPLEMENT

"The Queen of Crime's scheming ingenuity has been so much praised that one is sometimes inclined to overlook the lightness of her touch。"

An intriguing and unusual Poirot。 This has some of the best of Christie in it: a wealth of characters and therefore suspects; an unexpected and mysterious opening; shady men, smart women and (probably controversially) no appearance of Hastings! The Christies I've enjoyed most are the ones that are standalone from recurring characters, and/or ones that use their famous protagonists sparingly and cleverly。 Poirot here is different to how he is in his previous novels - more proactive, more prone to mistakes and funnier too。I was a little underwhelmed by the ending - it seems that in a novel of so many possibilities, the ultimate conclusion is not one that capitalises on some of the things that have been set up throughout。 Christie endings have the tendency to be abrupt - which usually serves them well - but here it feels like there are a few threads left to be explored。Honourable mention for St Mary Mead - is it the same as the other novels? Is it different? Who knows? Either way, it's a collection of the most wonderful, bitter old women in England, and it's always a joy to spend time there。 Additionally, the first nine or ten chapters of this book create its characters so well, and not knowing who the victim would be meant I really felt their loss for the rest of the novel。 This book has some of Christie's most interesting, funny and dark characters, and recalls to me some of my favourites - Endless Night, Death Comes as the End, and The Murder at the Vicarage。 。。。more

i liked the different narrators that were used to piece this story together。 Poirots flamboyant personality is always a delight to read about and I liked Katherine and Zia from this story。

Personally I was not much fond of this affair all these rich people problem that has to do deal with young girls foolishness and infedelity that made me simply roll my eyes but as the story progress I reluctantly continued and in the end I was convinced!

My second favorite Poirot so far! Maybe I just always need him to be on a train?

2。5/5 stars A little slow getting started, it took a while to actually get to the train。 The set up felt longer than some of Christie’s other books。 It felt different than other books in this series。

The previous tales of Poirot told them from the point of view from another person, usually Hastings。 This time it is told more from a third person omniscient view。 I found I much prefer this as it also seems as though Agatha Christie gave us more information about the case throughout instead of keep most to the end。 I can admit though, that perhaps I am getting slightly better at detecting the methods。

What can I say, another fabulous story from Agatha Christie and her sleuth Hercule Poirot。 Just love her writing and especially the stories set in other countries。 I find myself immersed in the tale her writing is so evocative。 Which one next 🤔

You can never go wrong with Agatha Christie !

A nice mystery。 The story and end reveal was pretty standard。 It was interesting as most of the perspective was from other characters, which made for a more engaged read。 3/5 - a quick read

It's easy enough to follow the goings-on in this one, but not so easy to unravel the tangled web of deceipt。 I thought I had it figured out。 Dame Aggie does what she does so well。 It's easy enough to follow the goings-on in this one, but not so easy to unravel the tangled web of deceipt。 I thought I had it figured out。 Dame Aggie does what she does so well。 。。。more

Not quite as satisfying as some of the author's other works。 I enjoyed the heroine of the story, but was not pleased with the conclusion of the story in that it seemed a somewhat irresponsible man ends up with the happiest of endings。 Not quite as satisfying as some of the author's other works。 I enjoyed the heroine of the story, but was not pleased with the conclusion of the story in that it seemed a somewhat irresponsible man ends up with the happiest of endings。 。。。more

“Life is like a train mademoiselle。 It goes on。 And it is a good thing that that is so。 Because the train gets to its journey's end at last, and there is a proverb about that in your language, mademoiselle。 Journeys and in lovers meeting。” I sincerely enjoyed this book。 Even though I somehow accurately guessed who the killer was, Christie never ceases to amaze us with a thrilling and exciting plot。 “Life is like a train mademoiselle。 It goes on。 And it is a good thing that that is so。 Because the train gets to its journey's end at last, and there is a proverb about that in your language, mademoiselle。 Journeys and in lovers meeting。” I sincerely enjoyed this book。 Even though I somehow accurately guessed who the killer was, Christie never ceases to amaze us with a thrilling and exciting plot。 。。。more

annd mind blown at first, this took me a couple of days to get into。 but as soon as the murder took place, i wouldn’t dare to put this book down。 this is definitely one of agatha christie’s more complex mysteries, though she always tends to bring about a new plot-twist in each book。

Nina

There were too many characters to keep a track。

Marina

Elsie

Okay but this one really had me feeling super bad for the victim and especially her dad? Also yeah I did not guess the twist at all lol
