Summary

The Tale of Tom Kitten is set in the cottage garden Beatrix created herself at Hill Top， the farm she owned near the village of Sawrey。 Tom and his sisters look so smart in their new clothes。 When their mother sends them outside while she waits for her visitors， she couldn't possibly guess what kind of mess they are going to get themselves into！

I am running through this series by Beatrix Potter - would have been better seeing the illustrations in print， though。 This tale of three kittens was not half as cute as her other books。

A very quick read and one of those classic books that you wonder if it's a classic because of when it was released or because of the gorgeous illustrations。 As far as stories go， there's not much there and in summary， kids will be kids， and some adults will ALWAYS like to indulge in appearances to impress people。 Read this because a friend wanted to discuss topics/themes in it and whether the mother is authoritative。 I think she could be， but authoritative "light"。 She's not a full on despot and A very quick read and one of those classic books that you wonder if it's a classic because of when it was released or because of the gorgeous illustrations。 As far as stories go， there's not much there and in summary， kids will be kids， and some adults will ALWAYS like to indulge in appearances to impress people。 Read this because a friend wanted to discuss topics/themes in it and whether the mother is authoritative。 I think she could be， but authoritative "light"。 She's not a full on despot and I've met MANY a father and mother who are of the sort that want to make a good impression rather than let kids be kids。 Mind you， it's not a matter of letting kids run amok， but the clothes she wanted to put on the kittens？ Meh。 Cute although does feel rather dated even if it is curiously relatable。 。。。more

I loved this book and especially the character Tom。 My son is called Tom and I noticed when he was at school all of the naughty mischievous boys were called Tom。 It’s good to push the boundaries sometimes。
