Summary

The Age of Darkness approaches。
Five lives stand in its way。
Who will stop it。。。 or unleash it?

For generations, the Seven Prophets guided humanity。 Using their visions of the future, they ended wars and united nations―until the day, one hundred years ago, when the Prophets disappeared。

All they left behind was one final, secret prophecy, foretelling an Age of Darkness and the birth of a new Prophet who could be the world’s salvation 。 。 。 or the cause of its destruction。 As chaos takes hold, five souls are set on a collision course:

A prince exiled from his kingdom。
A ruthless killer known as the Pale Hand。
A once-faithful leader torn between his duty and his heart。
A reckless gambler with the power to find anything or anyone。
And a dying girl on the verge of giving up。

One of them―or all of them―could break the world。 Will they be savior or destroyer?

I'm going to make this review short and sweet。 Three stars aren't bad。 three-point five stars are quite good。 And this book is exactly that。 It's so entertaining and just the right mix of plot and character work。 Although it's quite obvious that the first book is very much setting up the heavy plot for the next book and also setting up the characters and their role in the story, I still very much enjoy how they all met and what their goal is in the next books。 We primarily follow 5 povs, and uns I'm going to make this review short and sweet。 Three stars aren't bad。 three-point five stars are quite good。 And this book is exactly that。 It's so entertaining and just the right mix of plot and character work。 Although it's quite obvious that the first book is very much setting up the heavy plot for the next book and also setting up the characters and their role in the story, I still very much enjoy how they all met and what their goal is in the next books。 We primarily follow 5 povs, and unsurprisingly, I didn't love all of them。 My favorite has to be Anton and Ephyra because they're the most interesting and complex characters, also the ones that didn't really have any moral high ground bullshit but still have their own fears and goals。 My least favorite is Hassan, and when I said this I didn't just mean I like him but not as much as the others, nope。 I actually sort of despise him as a character, because he's the type of mc that I hate seeing。 Incredibly young and too naive to understand the world, that god-awful insta-love, his inability to use his healthy and young brain to stop and think about his actions just for one second, rage all the time, and also somehow inspired others to follow his stupidity。 I hope he gets better as the series goes on but for now, he gets on my goddamn nerves and since he played quite a big role in the story, it hinders me from fully enjoying this book。 But the rest of the book sort of saved it, and I'm excited to read the rest of the series and see our characters grew and learn。 3。5/5 stars 。。。more

I have to agree with a lot of the other reviews on here。 There was a lot of lay up for later books, but not really much happened in this book, that didn't just set us up for what is to come in the sequel。 The action that did happen was good, well-written and engaging, I just wish there was a bit more of it。 I also struggled with the characters and their lack of forethought。 They are only 16 so I will give them some slack, but seriously, is no one going to weigh the consequences of a situation be I have to agree with a lot of the other reviews on here。 There was a lot of lay up for later books, but not really much happened in this book, that didn't just set us up for what is to come in the sequel。 The action that did happen was good, well-written and engaging, I just wish there was a bit more of it。 I also struggled with the characters and their lack of forethought。 They are only 16 so I will give them some slack, but seriously, is no one going to weigh the consequences of a situation before barreling straight in to enemy territory? Like, not even one of them? I might just be an overthinker, but I feel like at least one of them should have weighed their options a bit better。 Especially Jude。 Don't know if I will continue the series or not, I guess time will tell。 If I see a really good review i might just add the next two to my cart。 。。。more

I've been excited about this book for a while, especially due to those gorgeous covers, and since the final book just released, I'm finally giving it a go!My expectations for this book have shrunk a little over time, due to not seeing a lot of others reading it/not a super high goodreads rating, but it ended up really surprising me! I've been reading less and less YA fantasy lately because a lot of it recently has started to feel repetitive, but something about this one just hit different。 There I've been excited about this book for a while, especially due to those gorgeous covers, and since the final book just released, I'm finally giving it a go!My expectations for this book have shrunk a little over time, due to not seeing a lot of others reading it/not a super high goodreads rating, but it ended up really surprising me! I've been reading less and less YA fantasy lately because a lot of it recently has started to feel repetitive, but something about this one just hit different。 There were definitely some aspects I'd seen before, but I overall liked how it came together and was done in this one。The world in this book feels big, but time jumps often skipped over the long days of travelling that can often bog down a story like this with such a wide world, and characters spread all around the world。 I'm honestly so grateful we didn't have to see all that, because I sometimes just get so tired of the journeying, unless that's done exceptionally well。 The time skips were also done in a way that you still noticed that time had passed, so it didn't feel like the characters were zipping all over the place。 I also overall liked having such a large world for the story to take place in, and I'm curious how this will develop more in later books, since this first one is largely spent in one main area。The cast is also quite large, and I feel like I never could've listened to this on audio whilst also remembering who everyone is。 It does quickly become clear who's important to who, and very early on these side characters already begin to overlap in POVs, ensuring you haven't forgotten them by the time you get back to the POV that introduced them。 This overlap also corresponds for the main characters as well, since a lot of this first book is them shuffling in different match ups of 2-3 characters working together at once。 It's not yet a full ensemble cast, as you see how much they're all connected, but they themselves don't see that yet。 I'm also really excited to see how that develops further too, and if we'll at some point have a group where they're all working together, or if it's more semi-individual plots that keep overlapping with each other。 Unfortunately I did very much have preferences for which POVs I liked reading most, and was sorta bored with one frequently, but it didn't end up hurting the book too much for me, since the chapters get really short really quickly。 Hopefully they're more balanced, interest wise at least, in the next one!The plot itself is also quite interesting, even if it still feels like it's still getting it's footing in this book。 The twists themselves were quite well done, not being totally unguessable/coming out of nowhere, while also not being so obvious that you get frustrated that no one else sees it。 I did guess quite a few things, but it almost felt like I was meant to, and by then there wasn't much time left for the reveals themselves to come anyway。 It really built up this sense of foreboding, and I enjoyed that a lot! Overall, I really enjoyed this book, more and more as it went on。 I can definitely see myself really enjoying this trilogy, so hopefully it keeps on doing what it's doing! 。。。more

I really enjoyed this first installment of this series! I loved each of the character and their stories (some more than others)。 I can't wait to pick up the next in the series to see where these characters go from here。 I really enjoyed this first installment of this series! real rating: 4。5 starsone of the most underrated books i've ever come across。 it has every good trope, done well: poc & lgbtq+ rep; chosen one but with a twist; one-room scene with one-bed-trope vibes; blood sisters; delectably high stakes。the only reason why i knocked 0。5 stars is because there were a couple povs i really didn't enjoy reading (*aggressive coughing* hassan) but in the end, the others highkey made up for it :)110% would recommend — it's one of my favourite series to date; i have real rating: 4。5 starsone of the most underrated books i've ever come across。 it has every good trope, done well: poc & lgbtq+ rep; chosen one but with a twist; one-room scene with one-bed-trope vibes; blood sisters; delectably high stakes。the only reason why i knocked 0。5 stars is because there were a couple povs i really didn't enjoy reading (*aggressive coughing* hassan) but in the end, the others highkey made up for it :)110% would recommend — it's one of my favourite series to date; i have no idea why this trilogy isn't more popular! 。。。more

This was such a page turner — as soon as I started reading, I could not put it down due to the amount of suspense or intrigue that many chapters ended with。 The author also did a great job transitioning between characters。 I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

The characters, plot twists and world building were great! The first couple hundred pages were good and kept me intrigued。 It mostly followed different characters around。 It was the last 150 pages that captured me though!!

3,5 stars。 All right, not so bad for a debut high fantasy。 The plot and the world building are quite decent, and I really hope we get to see more of it in the rest of the series。 As usually with Young Adult there’s a lot of focus on the characters, and here I don’t mean growth, but their emotions and how they react to everyone and everything around them。 I don’t like it very much, but it wasn’t too overwhelming in this case。 Overall this is an interesting start to a series, and I’ll cross my fin 3,5 stars。 All right, not so bad for a debut high fantasy。 The plot and the world building are quite decent, and I really hope we get to see more of it in the rest of the series。 As usually with Young Adult there’s a lot of focus on the characters, and here I don’t mean growth, but their emotions and how they react to everyone and everything around them。 I don’t like it very much, but it wasn’t too overwhelming in this case。 Overall this is an interesting start to a series, and I’ll cross my fingers it only gets better。 。。。more

This was hardcore alright。 Lots and lots of world building laying the foundation to what will likely be a fantastic series overall。 Unfortunately, I never felt a connection with any of the characters, to the point where I often confused two of the main male leads。 Not that they were similar, its just that I had to make an effort to put a name to the face, so to speak, every single time the POV changed to either of them。 I'm interested to see where the story is going, but I'm not in any hurry to This was hardcore alright。 Lots and lots of world building laying the foundation to what will likely be a fantastic series overall。 Unfortunately, I never felt a connection with any of the characters, to the point where I often confused two of the main male leads。 Not that they were similar, its just that I had to make an effort to put a name to the face, so to speak, every single time the POV changed to either of them。 I'm interested to see where the story is going, but I'm not in any hurry to get there。 。。。more

1。5 *The idea of the story is good but the delivery is not。 The book drags for too long, half of the pages are unnecessary。 The characters are not memorable, they just exists。 Not a single of them have some kind of development or growth at the end of the book。 I’m disappointed because I was expecting way more, even though I did kind of enjoyed the majority of the story I know I won’t remember anything of it in a week。 The only thing I found really interesting was the whole Ancient Greece backgro 1。5 *The idea of the story is good but the delivery is not。 The book drags for too long, half of the pages are unnecessary。 The characters are not memorable, they just exists。 Not a single of them have some kind of development or growth at the end of the book。 I’m disappointed because I was expecting way more, even though I did kind of enjoyed the majority of the story I know I won’t remember anything of it in a week。 The only thing I found really interesting was the whole Ancient Greece background where the events take place。 。。。more

Told from multiple viewpoints, this start of a brand-new series is a taut fantasy that also manages to be a political thriller, romance, religious commentary and a sober contemplation of the nature of affection and what we’re willing to do to sustain those we love。This fantasy book has got it all—a terrific premise, complex characters, stirring dialogue, surprise plot twists and the threat of The End of the World As We Know It。 There are Chosen ones, prophecies, love interests, revenge fantasies Told from multiple viewpoints, this start of a brand-new series is a taut fantasy that also manages to be a political thriller, romance, religious commentary and a sober contemplation of the nature of affection and what we’re willing to do to sustain those we love。This fantasy book has got it all—a terrific premise, complex characters, stirring dialogue, surprise plot twists and the threat of The End of the World As We Know It。 There are Chosen ones, prophecies, love interests, revenge fantasies, mystical powers and enough double crosses to make a Borgia dizzy。 It’s the stuff of epic grandeur; lovers of fantasy novels will not be disappointed。 I breathlessly turned every page, eager to see what was going to happen next, staying up late and oversleeping through my alarm clock as a result。 If you want a book wherein a fictional world teeters on the edge of oblivion, this is one that will make your heart sing。 。。。more
