OK yeah this is why I was obsessed with the series in high school。"I'm not a lord, I'm just a shepherd!" "whatever you say, My Lord。" - Iconic。Literally every time Nynaeve does anything - Iconic。 (How was she not always my favorite?)Evil invading armies with weird reptile mounts, drunk-cowboy accents, and bad hairstyles? - Iconic。This dated, trope-laden series will always have my heart。 OK yeah this is why I was obsessed with the series in high school。"I'm not a lord, I'm just a shepherd!" This was a significant improvement on book 1 in terms of pace and character development Moiraine's WTF treatment of Rand at the end of book 1 is explained。 I enjoyed learning more about the Aes sedai through the introduction of the Amiyrln seat and the introduction of Verin。 The hunt for the horn was interesting, and I enjoyed Rand's character development in seeing him start to become a leader。 I wish Perrin was developed more, and Mat is still relatively uninteresting at this point。Nynaeve is s This was a significant improvement on book 1 in terms of pace and character development Moiraine's WTF treatment of Rand at the end of book 1 is explained。 I enjoyed learning more about the Aes sedai through the introduction of the Amiyrln seat and the introduction of Verin。 The hunt for the horn was interesting, and I enjoyed Rand's character development in seeing him start to become a leader。 I wish Perrin was developed more, and Mat is still relatively uninteresting at this point。Nynaeve is still bizarrely angry at Moirainne, at one point she literally blames her for all of their problems which makes absolutely no sense。 At one point, all the women fight over Rand which is still annoying。Overall, a great continuation of the story but still with some things that seem off and others that feel undeveloped, but hey there's 12 more books to go to develop the characters。 。。。more

Full review to come。 I think I liked this book a bit better than Eye of the World。 I thought the ending was better constructed, it seemed less of a Tolkien homage/ripoff , and the world was given a much deeper feel (of course it helps that it had the work Eye of the World did to lean on as well)。 It was also less Rand-centric, which helped quite a bit as well。 Nothing against Rand, but there are so many interesting characters in this series that being confined to one POV does most of those chara Full review to come。 I think I liked this book a bit better than Eye of the World。 I thought the ending was better constructed, it seemed less of a Tolkien homage/ripoff , and the world was given a much deeper feel (of course it helps that it had the work Eye of the World did to lean on as well)。 It was also less Rand-centric, which helped quite a bit as well。 Nothing against Rand, but there are so many interesting characters in this series that being confined to one POV does most of those characters a disservice。 。。。more

Brilliant。This book was so detailed I felt a part of it the whole time。 Cannot wait to start the next one。

This is a LONG sucker but I read it in about a week, so that says something about how much I enjoyed it, which is quite a lot。 I feel the exact same way about this second installment as I did about the first。 In fact, i think it’s very very similar except of course in the specific adventures。 It’s pretty original, kind of a page turner, and populated with mostly likeable characters。 Is the plot bulletproof? I guess not。 But then many fantasy books aren’t。 We were introduced to the world beyond A This is a LONG sucker but I read it in about a week, so that says something about how much I enjoyed it, which is quite a lot。 I feel the exact same way about this second installment as I did about the first。 In fact, i think it’s very very similar except of course in the specific adventures。 It’s pretty original, kind of a page turner, and populated with mostly likeable characters。 Is the plot bulletproof? I guess not。 But then many fantasy books aren’t。 We were introduced to the world beyond Andor, revealing some pretty interesting cultures。 Other than that, the characters were basically traveling around in a similar, albeit slightly less perilous, fashion as in the first book。 A couple of things that did annoy me: How often do people say or think ‘light!’ And ‘burn me’? It’s just not natural。 Lan and Moiraine were mostly absent, and I don’t get why。 Two very similar characters and ssentially took over the role Lan and Moiraine had in the first book, and that felt 95% unnecessary to me。Rand should just come to terms with the whole prophecy thing。 At first, his reticence could come across as humility, but it’s become dense by now。 How is all of the sh*t that’s happened Moiraine’s fault? I don’t get any of the Two Rivers folks animosity towards her。 She’s saved their butts plenty of times。 。。。more

This second book was a lot easier for me to get through。 I suppose now that I was more familiar with the characters and the world it was a lot easier to be invested。 I actually felt myself growing more attached to the major characters, then I did in the first book。 Likely because not everything revolved around Rand in this book。 One thing that did stay the same was the ending being incredible。

A much better book than the eye of the world。 Some memorable chapters in here, and the characters are starting to be quite memorable。 I'm a sucker for an epic battle scene and this one was pretty good - very reminiscent (almost a direct copy) of a particular LOTR army of the dead plot line。 Still some issues with the 'one power' being a bit overpowered, like you know they are going to solve everything using the 'one power'。 A much better book than the eye of the world。 Some memorable chapters in here, and the characters are starting to be quite memorable。 I'm a sucker for an epic battle scene and this one was pretty good - very reminiscent (almost a direct copy) of a particular LOTR army of the dead plot line。 Still some issues with the 'one power' being a bit overpowered, like you know they are going to solve everything using the 'one power'。 。。。more

Okay the first book was kinda a LOTR rip off but this book was greatBasically what would happen if Frodo and the fellowship became super bitter at Gandalf for making them go through all that trauma。 Fantastic character stuff here

So much I had forgotten about in this one。 Still enjoying my reread of this series。

Despite the slow (so slow omg!) start, pacing issues throughout and a couple of teenage girls spending half their page time fawning over the protagonist 🙄 I loved it? It’s just so HUGE, the world, the story, the characters。。 and I’m here for the journey。

I think the second book might be better than the first。 I’m almost wondering how this can continue to go on for 12 more books。 The magic system continues to be one of my favorites as more of it is revealed。

An excellent second book。 Jordan seems much more confident in the world he's built and it no longer seems like a Lord of the Rings redux。 The only thing that marred the experience is Jordan's naming convention。 There was a scene where Egwene is talking to Elaine and Elaida walks by。 That's just mean。 The ending was great and has me hyped for the next installment An excellent second book。 Jordan seems much more confident in the world he's built and it no longer seems like a Lord of the Rings redux。 The only thing that marred the experience is Jordan's naming convention。 There was a scene where Egwene is talking to Elaine and Elaida walks by。 That's just mean。 The ending was great and has me hyped for the next installment 。。。more

I forgot how much I loved this book! Deeper character development and plot progression - gets you really hooked into the story。 So glad I am revisiting the series - now on to The Dragon Reborn。 This time I am determined to finish the series。

This could've been cut down to 400 pages easily but okay。 I had a love-hate relationship with it, I loved bits, was very bored by others so I can't rate it higher than a 3。5, rounding it up to a 3 on Goodreads。 Still liked it better than book 1, though the style gets some getting used to。 I will read book 3 in November so I'm ready to watch the show though。 This could've been cut down to 400 pages easily but okay。 I had a love-hate relationship with it, I loved bits, was very bored by others so I can't rate it higher than a 3。5, rounding it up to a 3 on Goodreads。 Still liked it better than book 1, though the style gets some getting used to。 I will read book 3 in November so I'm ready to watch the show though。 。。。more

The Great Hunt gave me hope that The Wheel of Time series might be as good as everyone swears it is。 TEotW read very much like an introduction and often felt too "familiar", but TGH breaks from any shackles I thought it had。 We get an excellent prologue, great side characters, conflict amongst our main characters, new antagonists for this book and potentially for the future, and plenty of action。 The last third of the book in particular is outstanding with the final conflict more than making up The Great Hunt gave me hope that The Wheel of Time series might be as good as everyone swears it is。 TEotW read very much like an introduction and often felt too "familiar", but TGH breaks from any shackles I thought it had。 We get an excellent prologue, great side characters, conflict amongst our main characters, new antagonists for this book and potentially for the future, and plenty of action。 The last third of the book in particular is outstanding with the final conflict more than making up for the messy final battle in TEotW。 If you want to give this series a real try and were left unconvinced by the first entry give this one a shot before DNFing。 When I finished I had a greater appreciation for TEotW and I knew I would be reading The Dragon Reborn shortly after。 。。。more

I've heard the writer on purpose wrote a "reluctant chosen one" but。。。。 It's kinda annoying。 And I don't really like chosen ones anyway。 Especially when the only thing that makes them chosen is "fate I guess"。 I like Nynaeve the most but her "romance" makes me mad。 Any relationship where one say about the other "They are old enough to be their parent" is a big NO for me。 And while we are on the "romance", we are told a few times that some characters are in love but never shown! *sigh* They just I've heard the writer on purpose wrote a "reluctant chosen one" but。。。。 It's kinda annoying。 And I don't really like chosen ones anyway。 Especially when the only thing that makes them chosen is "fate I guess"。 I like Nynaeve the most but her "romance" makes me mad。 Any relationship where one say about the other "They are old enough to be their parent" is a big NO for me。 And while we are on the "romance", we are told a few times that some characters are in love but never shown! *sigh* They just are。Not gonna waste my time reading more this year anyway。 In the time to read the rest series I could read over 40 other books I am much more interested in。 Any series that have "its gets really good in book 7" feels not really worth it if one is not already hooked。 which I am not。 might continue another year which is why I powered through and did not DNF。 Might watch the show in a few years otherwise。 。。。more

I read this many times several decades ago。 I picked it up again so I could enjoy the upcoming tv series and get growls at inconsistencies—isn’t that the way of us readers?I enjoyed it again & though the narration solid。 Was it my favorite narration? No, but it suited the story。 The hardest part was bearing names pronounced not as I had them in my head!Should you do this series? It’s a commitment for sure & this audiobook clocks in at nearly 25 hours。 Read the first one and see how that goes。 I’ I read this many times several decades ago。 I picked it up again so I could enjoy the upcoming tv series and get growls at inconsistencies—isn’t that the way of us readers?I enjoyed it again & though the narration solid。 Was it my favorite narration?
