Summary

Ferdinand is the world's most peaceful--and--beloved little bull。 While all of the other bulls snort, leap, and butt their heads, Ferdinand is content to just sit and smell the flowers under his favorite cork tree。 Leaf's simple storytelling paired with Lawson's pen-and-ink drawings make The Story of Ferdinand a true classic。 Commemorate the 75th anniversary of the book's original publication with this beautiful and affordable 8x8 paperback edition。

I had a mixed feelings about Bull Fights, but the story of this book is surprising, it's not quite what I'm expected。 I had a mixed feelings about Bull Fights, but the story of this book is surprising, it's not quite what I'm expected。 。。。more

Sweet little Ferdinand spends the day sitting under a tree, enjoying the flowers。Ferdinand grows tall and strong but still he likes to sit under his tree until the day he sits on a bumble bee。I read this one with my son and we both liked it。 I specially liked the fact that (view spoiler)[they simply took Ferdinand back to his field。 I really don't like the bull fights。 (hide spoiler)] Sweet little Ferdinand spends the day sitting under a tree, enjoying the flowers。Ferdinand grows tall and strong but still he likes to sit under his tree until the day he sits on a bumble bee。I read this one with my son and we both liked it。 I specially liked the fact that (view spoiler)[they simply took Ferdinand back to his field。 I really don't like the bull fights。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

In this very short story, Munro Leaf tackles stereotypes, generalisations, and toxic masculinity in a beautiful yet simple way。 This is a story that all kids definitely need to read/listen to。 And adults as well, actually。

Ferdinand is a book about a bull who doesn't want to be like a normal bull。 He instead wants to spend time admiring flowers and is overall friendly。 This is an easy read and it's a book I think most children would enjoy。 I would use it to encourage children to read alone and then tell me what they can retain from reading。 Ferdinand is a book about a bull who doesn't want to be like a normal bull。 He instead wants to spend time admiring flowers and is overall friendly。 This is an easy read and it's a book I think most children would enjoy。 I would use it to encourage children to read alone and then tell me what they can retain from reading。 。。。more

i do not want to talk about how embarrassingly much this book affected me

The original story of Ferdinand。 This story would be great for students to read and compare to the cartoon version of Ferdinand and other stories he is in。

I think this book really related to me because I was a bit more on the shy side as a child。 In the story, Ferdinand is a bull who watches the other bulls buck and play with one another but he prefers to sit under a tree and "smell the flowers"。 I felt like my shyness felt "okay" if you will because at times, I would rather be by myself than with everyone。 Now that I am older I see it is a way of looking at how to not always follow the norm (in this book aggression was the norm) and do what makes I think this book really related to me because I was a bit more on the shy side as a child。 In the story, Ferdinand is a bull who watches the other bulls buck and play with one another but he prefers to sit under a tree and "smell the flowers"。 I felt like my shyness felt "okay" if you will because at times, I would rather be by myself than with everyone。 Now that I am older I see it is a way of looking at how to not always follow the norm (in this book aggression was the norm) and do what makes you happy。 。。。more

First time I have ever read this book and was such a treat for both me and the kids。 Makes me think of how I was when I was a child。

Beautiful illustrations。 Sort of a morbid story because we all know the end of bullfighting but at least it had a happy ending。 I've always loved the concept of the big friendly bull who won't fight and happy to finally read it。 Beautiful illustrations。 Sort of a morbid story because we all know the end of bullfighting but at least it had a happy ending。 I've always loved the concept of the big friendly bull who won't fight and happy to finally read it。 。。。more

Ferdinand is the story of a sensitive bull。 He loves his trees and flowers and has no interest in fighting。 After a frenzy of pain, because he was stung by a bee, the men thought he was a perfect candidate for the bullfights。 So they carted him off the bullfights but he didn't fight。 He just sat and smelled the flowers and watched the bullfighters run around him。 They had to take him back to his home where he could once again sit by his favorite cork tree and smell the flowers。 Ferdinand was a g Ferdinand is the story of a sensitive bull。 He loves his trees and flowers and has no interest in fighting。 After a frenzy of pain, because he was stung by a bee, the men thought he was a perfect candidate for the bullfights。 So they carted him off the bullfights but he didn't fight。 He just sat and smelled the flowers and watched the bullfighters run around him。 They had to take him back to his home where he could once again sit by his favorite cork tree and smell the flowers。 Ferdinand was a gentle bull。 A beautiful story about being different and ok with who you are。 。。。more

I'm torn about this story。 On one hand, it's about being true to yourself, which is a great lesson for children。 On the other hand, in the interest of learning about cultural history, I've BEEN to a bullfight。。。。 And it's one of the most barbaric things I've ever witnessed。 So the dark side of this story is an animal's life being spared a horrific end because it refused to participate (which I suppose is another moral?) in the pageantry。 It's not a story I will intentionally read to my kiddo unl I'm torn about this story。 On one hand, it's about being true to yourself, which is a great lesson for children。 On the other hand, in the interest of learning about cultural history, I've BEEN to a bullfight。。。。 And it's one of the most barbaric things I've ever witnessed。 So the dark side of this story is an animal's life being spared a horrific end because it refused to participate (which I suppose is another moral?) in the pageantry。 It's not a story I will intentionally read to my kiddo unless he takes an interest in it in future, and only with some further instruction and discussion。 。。。more

When a book has been around since 1936, there is usually a reason for it。

It was good but not the best。 The book was not like the movie。The pictures were nicely detailed。 The beginning was not like the movie because Ferdinand does not have a Mom。 The ending was kind of true but not fully。

Such a gentle and heart-warming story!

‘The Story of Ferdinand’ used to be one of my favorite books as a child。 I just fell in love with the gentle bull who loved flowers, and I’ve held a soft spot for Ferdinand ever since。 This was the first time I’ve read this book in many, many years。 It was so much fun to revisit, and I loved introducing my students to this sweet character。 🌸🌺🌹💕

My mother read this to me when I was a child。 It’s an unusual children’s story about an unusual kind of a bull。 And underlines a universal need for acceptance of all different kinds of personalities。

Nadine

Sweet story of a bull who prefers sniffing the flowers to fighting。

I highly enjoyed the story of Ferdinand the Bull and also that he didn't get killed which is the end of most Bull fights。 I loved that his passiveness was not seen as a curse by his mother as well as the fact he was not bullied for being different。 A fun little book。 I highly enjoyed the story of Ferdinand the Bull and also that he didn't get killed which is the end of most Bull fights。 I loved that his passiveness was not seen as a curse by his mother as well as the fact he was not bullied for being different。 A fun little book。 。。。more
