This was fascinating。 I picked it up so as to attempt to determine when I began and ceased subscribing to Rolling Stone。 It was a lot of fun。 And I can't stop thinking about the article about Jefferson Airplane。。。 the first ever (I think?) mainstream expose of the life of groupies。 Haunting。 This was fascinating。 I picked it up so as to attempt to determine when I began and ceased subscribing to Rolling Stone。 It was a lot of fun。 And I can't stop thinking about the article about Jefferson Airplane。。。 the first ever (I think?) mainstream expose of the life of groupies。 Haunting。 。。。more

50 Years of Covers checks in at a comprehensive 760 pages。 Did I read every word? No。 Did I examine all 1301 covers。? Yes。 Did I learn from Jann Wenner's personal take on the history of Rolling Stone? Again, yes。 Did I review the photographers' anecdotes on what it's like to shoot a Rolling Stone cover with subjects who can be difficult or cooperative, controlling or open minded? You bet。 Did I enjoy the book? Thoroughly! So I highly recommend 50 Years of Covers if you fondly recall the good old 50 Years of Covers checks in at a comprehensive 760 pages。 Did I read every word? Thoroughly! So I highly recommend 50 Years of Covers if you fondly recall the good old days of rock and roll。。。if you want to see the evolution from youthful to mature to senior for superstars like Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen, and the Beatles。。。if you're interested in the transition of a magazine from a music focus to something much broader covering politics, comedy, and the country's "culture"。。。if you're curious about graphics and the periodic changes in the title's typeface。。。or if you're just looking for a place to browse when you have a few minutes of free time。I'd say there's something for almost everyone。。。except those who find the magazine (and Jann Wenner) a little too much to take。 After all, the subtitle here is A History of the Most Influential Magazine in Pop Culture, and the book hints at being even more important than the subtitle suggests。 But if you are positive--or even indifferent--about Rolling Stone, have a look。 。。。more
