Summary

Walter Isaacson's "enthralling" (The New Yorker) worldwide bestselling biography of Apple cofounder Steve Jobs。 Based on more than forty interviews with Steve Jobs conducted over two years--as well as interviews with more than 100 family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues--Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing。 Isaacson's portrait touched millions of readers。 At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination。 He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology。 He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering。 Although Jobs cooperated with the author, he asked for no control over what was written。 He put nothing off-limits。 He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly。 He himself spoke candidly about the people he worked with and competed against。 His friends, foes, and colleagues offer an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted。 His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values。 Steve Jobs is the inspiration for the movie of the same name starring Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, and Jeff Daniels, directed by Danny Boyle with a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin。

Every once in a while I read something, I read something and then I stop to order everything that man has written ever。 That is what happened to me while reading this book。 Fortunately - he wrote the autobiographies of other great humans too。 Steve Jobs led a great life - but he was extremely lucky to have Walter pen his story。 He brought so much character and grip to the story - it is magical。 Anything else I say - will not do justice。 Maybe the best book I have ever read。

This book was inspiring and really shone a light on the man behind Apple。 If there was one takeaway from the book for me it is this question:To what extent are you willing to sacrifice your relationships with people and people’s perception of you to ‘change the world’ for the better?

Great biography, up among the best I've read。 Really well written and engaging and it follows the life of Steve very well。 While, Steve himself didn't create some of Apple's greatest products, he still obviously had a huge impact upon it and the direction of his company。 You can not deny his influence。 At no point reading this, was I bored。 5/5 Great biography, up among the best I've read。 Really well written and engaging and it follows the life of Steve very well。 While, Steve himself didn't create some of Apple's greatest products, he still obviously had a huge impact upon it and the direction of his company。 You can not deny his influence。 At no point reading this, was I bored。 5/5 。。。more

Well this one is somewhat tough to review because there were parts of the book I didn’t like but later on I realized I actually disliked parts where I really disliked Jobs。 I read the article, where his ex and mother to his first born daughter says that he was far worse than the obsessive, cold and ruthless guy depicted here, that in fact he was rotten to the core, just before I read the book。 And I was curious to learn what more there is to the ultimate icon of inventiveness and innovation。 Thi Well this one is somewhat tough to review because there were parts of the book I didn’t like but later on I realized I actually disliked parts where I really disliked Jobs。 I read the article, where his ex and mother to his first born daughter says that he was far worse than the obsessive, cold and ruthless guy depicted here, that in fact he was rotten to the core, just before I read the book。 And I was curious to learn what more there is to the ultimate icon of inventiveness and innovation。 This book covers it all, the great and the crazy, the genius and the madness。 So much information and some of it is mindblowing! From him growing up with his adoptive parents to his last days and last ideas for his precious baby – Apple, including personal relationships and private life, how he came up with unique signature products and made Apple into what it is today。 Plus it reminded me that he also was the force behind Pixar and Toy Story。 I mean we all know that Jobs was a genius, I can’t think of another person who has led a similar life and has achieved as much。 The way he seems to have intuitively come up with products people wanted and love, products that wowed and changed the world and how he actually made things happen by simply telling engineers “I want this” - it’s crazy!I never thought about how mindblowing the idea of a touchscreen actually is。 Like he wanted to replace the hardware with software, to have numbers when you need them, a keyboard when you’re writing and both disappear if you want them to。 And I kind of knew that Jobs was eccentric - but not to what extent。 The way he threw tantrums, cried during arguments, how he thought that ordinary rules didn’t apply to him, was impossible to please, impatient, demanding, uncaring and unkind, selfish, rude and manipulative。 It all starts off as the description of the ultimate genius artist, someone who obsesses over vegan diets and thought he therefore didn’t need to shower, someone who would soak his feet in the toilet for stress relief。 But as it continued it quickly made me realize that he was the kind of person I wouldn’t want anywhere near me, no matter what。 And still, one can’t but admire what he created。 And wonder about his intense personality。 And appreciate his legacy。 The whole thing is lengthy, offers a few details to much and is somewhat repetitive but given that it’s based on hundreds of interviews with Jobs, his family, colleagues, competitors and friends, it is impressive。 Plus it reminded me how much of a genius Bill Gates is。 “People who know what they’re talking about don’t need PowerPoint。” 。。。more

Delightful。 A simply wonderful read about one of the most influential people in the 20th or 21st century。 His stamp on the world with Apple products, most importantly the iPhone, can't be overlooked。 The simplicity of the design and usage is outstanding。 Its worth noting Steve was rough around the edges, but his brilliance and love for things will leave an impact on humanity for decades。 What a great read。 Glad I finally got around to reading this one。 Delightful。 A simply wonderful read about one of the most influential people in the 20th or 21st century。 His stamp on the world with Apple products, most importantly the iPhone, can't be overlooked。 The simplicity of the design and usage is outstanding。 Its worth noting Steve was rough around the edges, but his brilliance and love for things will leave an impact on humanity for decades。 What a great read。 Glad I finally got around to reading this one。 。。。more

Finally picked this one up on the 10 year anniversary of Steve Jobs’s death。 Fantastic, Isaacson captures the essence and story of Jobs in a way that is unlike other movies and books about the mogul。 I knew many of the stories before reading this book and have always loved apple products and have watched several movies and read several books about jobs and Apple。 I didn’t know however that Jobs was born to his parents at 23 and was abandoned and he did the same to his daughter Lisa at 23。 God so Finally picked this one up on the 10 year anniversary of Steve Jobs’s death。 Fantastic, Isaacson captures the essence and story of Jobs in a way that is unlike other movies and books about the mogul。 I knew many of the stories before reading this book and have always loved apple products and have watched several movies and read several books about jobs and Apple。 I didn’t know however that Jobs was born to his parents at 23 and was abandoned and he did the same to his daughter Lisa at 23。 God so young to have done so much。 Of course it was his second act at Pixar and third in his triumphant return to Apple that truly cemented his legacy。 In fact he needed to gain experience to produce better products and it seemed he tempered a bit on people but never on standards for his products。 Book flowed nicely I enjoyed listening to the strawberry fields outtakes iterative process and hearing Steve’s analysis of it being the display of all the unseen work that makes truly great art enjoyable and valuable。 As I work as a product manager I’ve often looked to Apple as the gold standard for product quality and there is lots to learn from these stories about creating better consumer products。 love this passage-Steve Jobs, age 29。"It’s often the same with any new, revolutionary thing。 People get stuck as they get older。 Our minds are sort of electrochemical computers。 Your thoughts construct patterns like scaffolding in your mind。 You are really etching chemical patterns。 In most cases, people get stuck in those patterns, just like grooves in a record, and they never get out of them。 It’s a rare person who etches grooves that are other than a specific way of looking at things, a specific way of questioning things。 It’s rare that you see an artist in his 30s or 40s able to really contribute something amazing。 Of course, there are some people who are innately curious, forever little kids in their awe of life, but they’re rare。"That last sentence- I've never heard it spoken so well, but I definitely make a concerted effort to be in awe of life, innately curious。。。 I Think it's necessary to have a career in tech and crucial to make quality products, what do you think? 。。。more

Jobs is a beloved genius and a notorious bully。 He was highly sensitive yet brutally cold。 His personality is seemingly at odds with itself and inconsistent。 How did Jobs become this person? What can a person like this achieve, and at what costs? Isaacson captures Jobs in one word: intensity。 You'll realize why after reading this book。The early parts of the book introduces how Job's childhood and early experiences formed the characteristics and behaviours he would eventually embody intensely。 Then Isaacson takes us on a ride through the history of the tech industry with Jobs at the center pioneering the disruption of personal computers, animation, music, and more。 We get a glimpse of how the culture of Apple became an extension of Jobs himself and how that brought about a team of A-tier players who delivered customer value and delight despite impossible odds。 And more humanly, we see the toll on family and health Jobs must bear because of his stubbornness and position leading one of the world's most valuable company。As a business/tech nerd myself, I found the stories behind certain momentous decisions fascinating。 Jobs had an uncanny ability to focus on the customer and a genius product intuition - there were numerous "case studies" where that became evident。 The theme of vertical integration was also prevalent throughout, and I have so much more appreciation for the 40+ year old "Apple ecosystem" strategy。 Read this as a tech history book, a case study on a complex personality, or as a story of a wild series of life events; no matter the reason, I believe you will be entertained。Favourite two quotes from the book: "I think most creative people want to express appreciation for being able to take advantage of the work that's been done by others before us。。。We try to use the talents we do have to express our deep feelings, to show our appreciation of all the contributions that came before us, and to add something to that flow。 That's what has driven me。""Here's to the crazy ones。 The misfits。 The rebels。 The troublemakers。 The round pegs in the square holes。 The ones who see things differently。 They're not fond of rules。 And they have no respect for the status quo。 You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them。 About the only thing you can't do is ignore them。 Because they change things。 They push the human race forward。 And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius。 Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do。" 。。。more
