This one was very confusing towards the beginning and I just kept having the image of Charlie Day in front of the white board looking frazzled trying to piece everything together。 Towards the middle and end we started to get glimpses into the “end game” and now I can’t wait to pick up the last volume and see how this story wraps up (there’s only one way it can end, right? Are we all on the same page here?)。 We’ll see if I’m right。。。

Alright, so normally I usually separate manga into it's many different arcs and then review the arcs themselves。 However, Death Note really only has two major arcs。 3 if you consider the beginning until L shows up but I。。。don't。 So therefore I will be referring to everything in Part 1 as everything that happen pre a certain characters death。 Then Part II will be everything else。 This happens somewhere during the middle of Volume 4 of the Blackened edition I believe。Also, if it wasn't obvious, th Alright, so normally I usually separate manga into it's many different arcs and then review the arcs themselves。 However, Death Note really only has two major arcs。 3 if you consider the beginning until L shows up but I。。。don't。 So therefore I will be referring to everything in Part 1 as everything that happen pre a certain characters death。 Then Part II will be everything else。 This happens somewhere during the middle of Volume 4 of the Blackened edition I believe。Also, if it wasn't obvious, there will be major Spoilers ahead。 So just be wary that I will be talking in depth about the story and using examples from the material to explain my points。 I will try to be vague, but my courtesy of not naming a characters death ends here。Part 1: Chapters 1-58 Rating - 10/10Things I liked-So Death Note has a phenomenal start。 I think the first three chapters are enough to hook anyone who is into this genre of storytelling。 (crime/supernatural/thriller)-It's one of those things where it really does have fantastic suspenseful moments。 Every bit of information is given to us in a concise and appropriate way。 I don't really feel like part 1 ever gets super wordy, except maybe in the later bits。-The characters in part 1 really are just the crème of the crop here。 However, I will say。 Light as a character is so much less interesting when he we are aware of his intentions。 The moment he forfeited the Death Note and therefore his memories was a stupendous way for the audience to be in love with how it's going to turn out。 We KNOW that Light has a plan。 We KNOW that he's looking to get possession of the Death Note again—but how is he going to pull it off? And that is honestly the highlight of part one。-It's like adding a cat and mouse component while playing 3D chess。 L is trying to capture Light who he believes to be the real Kira。 So we get to see L, and Light working together as protagonists all while knowing that at one point, Light will change and become the antagonist。 It's an extremely effective way of making every development have meaning and be that much more engaging。Things I didn't liked-This list will be short, because I really believe that part 1 is nearly flawless。 I just feel like the story finds itself trapped in mountainous amounts of exposition。 We have to explore what L's thinking。 What Light's thinking。 What Ryuk's thinking。 What Light's dad is thinking。 What AIZAWA is thinking。 It becomes a bit too much and there is a bit too much direction and thought put into the thoughts of these characters。Part 2: Chapters 59-108 Rating - 8/10It's hard to compare part 1 and 2 and at the same time very simple。 Both of them take place in the style of the catch a criminal style of story。 Both of them have the battling of two geniuses going at it。 And both of them have very high intensity, nail biting scenes。However, where part 2 truly suffers is based on the information we already know and not the information we don't。 A lot of people think you should stop the series after L's death。 However, I don't subscribe to that idea。 Part 2 is really only made to be not the same it's predecessor BECAUSE it's predecessor was so good。Allow me to explain the three components I felt lead to Part 2 not being as well received and in my personal opinion—not as strong as part 1。1。 We are rehashing the same story。 Except, we are losing a key component。 Light's obliviousness。 I think this matters majorly。 I really found the Light that started to think he may be Kira despite having no memories of it was extremely interesting and endearing。 All of the work done in the beginning went to really just prove this part of the story to be so much stronger。 As I've explained above。 Without that aspect, we are now watching the same cat and mouse story, however, without Light's conflicting character。 We see his every thought。 And at this point he is a straight up psycho path。 So it's not nearly as compelling or interesting to hear him curse out Near for messing with him so much。2。 We get NO new Death Note rules。 Yes, the actual volumes give us little technicalities。 However, we get no actual in story rule additions。 Therefore, for 50+ chapters we are not told ANYTHING new about the Death Note。 In fact, a lot of the same tricks are used again in the same vein as they were used in Part 1。3。 The scope goes bigger, however, it becomes a little convoluted to be involved in so many characters perspectives。 This was a minor issue in Part 1。 However, Part 2 really pushed it to a new extreme。 I think Eliminating half of Near's scenes and focusing more of Mello would have really aided in this。 I think Near was basically a talking head and what made L so engaging was his ability to explain things when they needed explanation。 L took risks and it's what got him killed。 However, as an audience, we enjoy that。 Near took far too little risk。 Sure, he survives。 However, it isn't something that I would give him any clout for。Things I liked-Near is just as, if not more interesting than L。 Now, I know people may think that I'm crazy for thinking that。 But I implore you to reread this story and tell me that L and Near are ANY different。 They act the same。 The tackle situations the same。 They have the same quirks。 They are different characters with different motivations。 But L was interesting because he was the opposition to Light and he was so excellent at it。 Not because HE himself was at all mega interesting。-I enjoyed seeing things from Light's perspective as we the viewers got to see things from a different take on the cat and mouse dynamic。 I do think we got too much of Near。 I wish we would have gotten a lot more Mello, and Near was the secret in the shadows。Things I didn't liked-I explained a big portion of this above so I'll keep this on one final point。 I personally just hated how they caught Light。 It just felt super anti-climatic。 It didn't feel smart。 It felt like the only reason it happened was a stroke of luck and for two super geniuses, I really hated that。 It was really all due to a dude being able to recreate the notebook literally word for word。 That's it。 I love the final scene when Light IS found out。 And eventually what happens with him and Ryuk。 However, I was not a fan whatsoever of HOW they ended up catching him。 Light hiding the note into his watch and killing the dude was a stroke of genius that made me jump out of my seat。 That's how I felt this moment should have been, but it was just kinda contrived。Overall, Death Note is phenomenal。 It's a great shonen and I had a blast rereading it。 I would definitley recommend it。9/10 Overall 。。。more

This series is incredibly fun and always ends in a twist just when I think Light is getting sloppy!! Can’t wait to see how it all ends in the next one。

3。5To me, this one got a little muddled in the middle but ended up getting back on track for a very interesting finale!

Found these very cool Black Editions at my library - this one contains Volumes 9 & 10。 This manga has become a tad too convoluted with too many characters thrown into the mix。 I continue to enjoy the twists and unexpected turns, and I"m curious to see how this one ends。 Found these very cool Black Editions at my library - this one contains Volumes 9 & 10。 This manga has become a tad too convoluted with too many characters thrown into the mix。 I continue to enjoy the twists and unexpected turns, and I"m curious to see how this one ends。 。。。more

The beginning an end was super good but the middle was pretty boring。 Still a great series!

Tension really ramping up here。 Back to more philosophical roots。 Highly entertaining。

I originally gave this 4 stars, right after I finished reading it。 But I thought about it and realistically, this wasn't a 4 star read。 There is a lot of theorizing in this volume, which I didn't really mind in the other volumes。 But in this one, there were pages full of Near just repeating his theories out loud to himself。 Stuff that we already knew。 And it got a bit repetitive。 I wanted more action from this volume。 So I lowered my rating to a 3 star。 Still enjoying the series overall and I ca I originally gave this 4 stars, right after I finished reading it。 But I thought about it and realistically, this wasn't a 4 star read。 There is a lot of theorizing in this volume, which I didn't really mind in the other volumes。 But in this one, there were pages full of Near just repeating his theories out loud to himself。 Stuff that we already knew。 And it got a bit repetitive。 I wanted more action from this volume。 So I lowered my rating to a 3 star。 Still enjoying the series overall and I can't wait to read the concluding volume! 。。。more

The anime differs after the first half of the story quite a bit from the original manga it seems。 I recall the new L's being a collective of several kids, all trainee Ls, but not if Mellow and Near were working separately as rivals。 I think I will check the summary of the episodes of the anime series after I finish reading the whole manga series。 The anime differs after the first half of the story quite a bit from the original manga it seems。 I recall the new L's being a collective of several kids, all trainee Ls, but not if Mellow and Near were working separately as rivals。 I think I will check the summary of the episodes of the anime series after I finish reading the whole manga series。 。。。more

2。5 stars。 I feel bad about this rating but 5/10 feels right for me so here we are。 Don’t get me wrong, this is still an entertaining series, it’s just nothing on what it was in the first 3(ish) volumes and I no longer care particularly about any of the characters。 Having given Volume 4, 3 stars, this in comparison is a 2。 I wasn't even bored at any point, Death Note is just as fast-paced as it has always been but its also pretty convoluted and confusing at times。 For example, I find it pretty d 2。5 stars。 I feel bad about this rating but 5/10 feels right for me so here we are。 Don’t get me wrong, this is still an entertaining series, it’s just nothing on what it was in the first 3(ish) volumes and I no longer care particularly about any of the characters。 Having given Volume 4, 3 stars, this in comparison is a 2。 I wasn't even bored at any point, Death Note is just as fast-paced as it has always been but its also pretty convoluted and confusing at times。 For example, I find it pretty difficult to keep track of the rules at the beginning of the chapters as they are all so interwoven and dependent on you knowing every rule。 Plus, I know it is kind of a thing throughout the entire series, but my God the sexism is getting kind of harder to ignore。 Every single smart and strong character is male and I can only think of about 3 female characters that I know the names of while there are so many male ones。 I will finish as I only have one volume left, but the story is dragging a bit now。 I am excited to see how everything wraps up but I don't have the highest hopes。 。。。more

Begynder at trække ud og blive repetitivt。 70% af denne virker som noget man lige har været igennem i de foregående。

This book was good。 It does feel like the author keeps cycling through the same ideas and concepts without moving the story forward。 The characters aren’t really growing or changing much either。 I’m hoping the story will pick up and progress more in the 6th book。

Begint sterk, maar vanaf de tweede helft neemt de kwaliteit af。 Zonde。 Dit volume is daarmee het slechtste deel van de serie。

Probably my least favorite of the series so far。

Finished this next installment and I am still really enjoying the story。 Some of the characters are odd but no one seems to notice。 Clearly this is getting to the end game and we will see who is victorious。 I guess it can only end one way and I have to ask if Kira is now the very thing he is trying to rid the world of。

Hayden

The series is starting to get a little bit too complex now, the beginning was simple and great to read but there is so much to keep track of and all these different plans Plus most of the new characters that have been introduced I have no interest in at all

Cada vez está história está mais confusa e tem mais nuances。 Continuo sem saber o que pensar sobre o Light e sobre as atitudes dele mas estou super curiosa para ler o último volume。Continuo a adorar a arte destes livros e está edição é linda。。
