Summary

Following the destruction of the City of Mercy, an ancient god has been resurrected and sealed inside Beru's body。 Both are at the mercy of the Prophet Pallas, who wields the god’s powers to subjugate the Six Prophetic Cities。 But every day, the god grows stronger, threatening to break free and sow untold destruction。

Meanwhile, far away from Pallas Athos, Anton learns to harness his full powers as a Prophet。 Armed with the truth about how the original Prophets killed the god, Anton leads Jude, Hassan, and Ephyra on a desperate quest to the edge of the world。 With time running out, the group’s tenuous alliance is beset by mounting danger, tumultuous romance, and most of all by a secret that Anton is hiding: a way to destroy the god at the price of an unbearable sacrifice。 But the cost of keeping that secret might be their lives—and the lives of everyone in the Six Prophetic Cities。

say, i've read an unhealthy amount of fantasy series。 this one didn't particularly stand out to me, but i do enjoy my time reading the series。 the characters are infuriating but some, i love so much that I'll cherish them for a long time。 a lot of their arcs are completed in this book, which is such a relief as someone who is critical about character arcs。 however, when it comes to the plot, i am so thrown all over the place by how many things happened in one book。 i think a bit of the middle pa say, i've read an unhealthy amount of fantasy series。 this one didn't particularly stand out to me, but i do enjoy my time reading the series。 the characters are infuriating but some, i love so much that I'll cherish them for a long time。 a lot of their arcs are completed in this book, which is such a relief as someone who is critical about character arcs。 however, when it comes to the plot, i am so thrown all over the place by how many things happened in one book。 i think a bit of the middle part could be written shorter or scraped and it would have the same ending, but otherwise, i think this is a good conclusion to the series。 p。s。 i need a jude & anton novella, plus ephyra 。。。more

4,3 stars。 Such a great conclusion to the trilogy! Just like with the second book, from page one there was action, adventure, great reveals and even more dramatic scenes (in a very good way)。I actually found myself really attached to the characters and their journey, loved how they evolved as characters and the situations they went through, which in the end shaped up who they became。 The bit of history we got on the prophets was also interesting, if a bit short。 All in all I couldn’t be more hap 4,3 stars。 Such a great conclusion to the trilogy! *Actual rating 3。5/5 stars* The conclusion to the Age of Darkness trilogy from a debut author, "Into the Dying Light", the third book in the series picks up roughly two months after the end of the second book。 With the group having been split, with Anton and the Wanderer together, and Jude, Hector and Hassan on the other end, and Beru, Ephyra captured by the Heirophant Pallas, the story opens up with the characters reassessing their motivations and options to stop the prophecy from coming true。 *Actual rating 3。5/5 stars* The conclusion to the Age of Darkness trilogy from a debut author, "Into the Dying Light", the third book in the series picks up roughly two months after the end of the second book。 With the group having been split, with Anton and the Wanderer together, and Jude, Hector and Hassan on the other end, and Beru, Ephyra captured by the Heirophant Pallas, the story opens up with the characters reassessing their motivations and options to stop the prophecy from coming true。 Eventually (as luck would have it) the characters are reunited, and this allows them to reassess, regroup, and also once again bicker as they escape from the Heirophant with a God in tow。 As the group travels across the lands and attempt to deal with the myriad of conflicts that arise because of the miscommunication, angst, pinning, and of course general fatigue, the plot begins to narrow in scope, as the options to save the world and prevent the Age of Darkness from coming to fruition is limited in its ability to be stopped。 While the end of the book was able to close out all of the story lines in the series, one of my main gripes with this book was that it did not need to be this long - as the longest in the trilogy, many of the chapters just seemed following the same forms, and many of the characters didn't need that many chapters to talk about ideas and thoughts that other POVs covered。 While not the best, it is a good conclusion to a great series in YA。 。。。more

I know) Ephyra and Illya’s *story arc* was my favourite。 And that bittersweet ending with the promise of the future was a nice touch。 Jude and Anton’s *relationship* was really sweet and enjoyable to read at times。 Hassan and Khepri’s standing on this book was very quick tbh, but I think the ending of the book made up for that。 。。。more

It breaks my heart that this series has come to an end。 It is one of my favourite trilogies ever and I will always hold it close to my heart。 The series was written with so much heart and power, that I’m struggling with how to put it all into words。 It’s a perfect finale, and I wish I had time to read it from the start again。This series has always been strongest in its characters, and each of them shine here。 Hassan coming to terms with responsibility is powerful。 Ephyra learning what it will co It breaks my heart that this series has come to an end。 It is one of my favourite trilogies ever and I will always hold it close to my heart。 The series was written with so much heart and power, that I’m struggling with how to put it all into words。 It’s a perfect finale, and I wish I had time to read it from the start again。This series has always been strongest in its characters, and each of them shine here。 Hassan coming to terms with responsibility is powerful。 Ephyra learning what it will cost to save the world is wrenching。 Jude and Anton fighting to save each other creates the most beautiful love story I’ve ever imagined。 Beru wrestling with the god inside her created some truly memorable chapters。 I love each character, and even side characters were given arcs and depth and emotional growth。The story focuses on emotional connections and the journey。 The best moments of this book were characters interacting with each other。 But the plot itself was filled with action, tension, drama, twists, and sacrifices。As always, the world building is intricate and detailed, the prose finely crafted。 Katy Rose Pool has a stellar voice and writing style that turn words into magic。It is a crime that this epic, emotional, and complex series is not on everyone’s shelf。 It is sweeping, majestic, and filled with characters who will sink into your heart and stay there forever。 。。。more

this is a tough one to rate。 it was a satisfying end to the series, but i found that i didn’t care for almost half of the cast and loved the other one。 i also really liked illya’s redemption arc and would love to read a novella about him, especially one that follows him and anton。

I loved the first two books in the series, but Katy Rose Pool’s series finale, Into the Dying Light, left me feeling flat。 The semblance of Hollywood ending struck the wrong chord with me。 In general, the ending is too happy for a story during which the author had no problems killing off characters。 While I am all for happily-ever-after endings, they have to fit the rest of the story。 To me, this is one example where the ending does not fit。Plus, I never could get behind the relationship of two I loved the first two books in the series, but Katy Rose Pool’s series finale, Into the Dying Light, left me feeling flat。 The semblance of Hollywood ending struck the wrong chord with me。 In general, the ending is too happy for a story during which the author had no problems killing off characters。 While I am all for happily-ever-after endings, they have to fit the rest of the story。 To me, this is one example where the ending does not fit。Plus, I never could get behind the relationship of two of the main characters。 To me, this relationship is nothing but desperation and hero-worship masked as love and affection。 If the relationship were heteronormative, we would say how dangerous such a relationship is, so I struggle to accept it for a homosexual one。Into the Dying Light strikes me as very anticlimactic given the overall story’s grandiosity。 It is too neat and tidy for a story that was epic and messy and complex。 One of the things I loved about the rest of the series is the fact that it was so complex and messy。 It brings a level of realism to a story steeped in fantasy。 The way Ms。 Pool chose to end her series undoes all of that to give any character of importance a happy ending, and that seemingly ruined the story for me。 。。。more

4。5 starsWow。 That ending was a lot more fulfilling than I was expecting, while also keeping everything from working out too perfectly。 This final book really worked to complete everyone's character arcs, and I appreciate that so much。 Yes, including the characters I didn't like。 In my review for As the Shadow Rises, I said that nothing would make me care about Ephyra or Ilya, but you know what, I was wrong。 I do now care for Ephyra。 I still don't care for Ilya, but I'll tolerate him lol。 (view 4。5 starsWow。 That ending was a lot more fulfilling than I was expecting, while also keeping everything from working out too perfectly。 This final book really worked to complete everyone's character arcs, and I appreciate that so much。 Yes, including the characters I didn't like。 In my review for As the Shadow Rises, I said that nothing would make me care about Ephyra or Ilya, but you know what, I was wrong。 I do now care for Ephyra。 I still don't care for Ilya, but I'll tolerate him lol。 (view spoiler)[Also thank GOD Anton and Jude get a happy ending, I was so close to drowning in my tears (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

You've gotta really, REALLY trust an author to make it through a book like this。 Conclusions to trilogies are never easy to endure, and my god, this book dug my heart out and tore it to shreds。 I'm actually in tears as I write this。 I'm feeling every kind of emotion rn。 Holy *shit* what a book。This series has been a favorite since the beginning, and I can't believe it's over。 I might just have to reread it once again so I don't have to say goodbye to Ephyra, Beru, Anton, Jude, and Hassan。 I love You've gotta really, REALLY trust an author to make it through a book like this。 Conclusions to trilogies are never easy to endure, and my god, this book dug my heart out and tore it to shreds。 I'm actually in tears as I write this。 I'm feeling every kind of emotion rn。 Holy *shit* what a book。This series has been a favorite since the beginning, and I can't believe it's over。 I might just have to reread it once again so I don't have to say goodbye to Ephyra, Beru, Anton, Jude, and Hassan。 I love these characters so MUCH and I've loved following them through these three books and from one end of this twisty story to the other。 This has been a wild ride, and I can't wait to see what Katy Rose Pool does next。 。。。more

When i tell you i LOVED their whole enemies to lovers thing… *chef’s kiss* and this means Something coming from a person who hated both characters at one point。 Illya for obvious reasons and simply being a bastard, Ephyra for being selfish and not doing the one thing her sister wanted and let her go。 I could read a whole book simply based off of their dynamic and would love a novella of them (view spoiler)[atoning and coming back to each other。 I know Anton doesn’t have to forgive him but i would love to see those two become a bit closer (hide spoiler)]And FINALLY, the couple we’ve all being waiting for: Anton and Jude。 Seriously can’t say anything about them without it being a spoiler。 (view spoiler)[From the book’s description, i really did think it would be the cliche “prophet has to sacrifice himself so he separates from his loved one in order for it to hurt less” plot but when we find out it’s actually JUDE! I was surprised but glad for the twist。 (hide spoiler)] I’ve been rooting for these two ever since i connected the dots and figured out they’d be a pair。 Ngl at the very beginning of the first book, i considered Jude and Hassan (until he said he felt absolutely nothing at meeting him LMAO) and even Anton and Beru since she said she saw something in him that she has herself。Anyway, i am SO (view spoiler)[HAPPY these two lived, and most importantly, GOT MARRIED!!! It was truly more than what i could have hoped for。 The scene (in the remains of the tower?) where Anton is preparing to kill Jude and he sees a vision of their future was so heart wrenching!! I had a feeling they’d survive but it didn’t make it hurt less。 Especially when Anton mentions he could feel Jude’s esha/grace (my bad i forgot which) fighting him because he didn’t want to die!!! That whole scene was sadder than Hector’s death to me, honestly。 (hide spoiler)]In conclusion, i enjoyed this series through all its ups and downs。 I definitely had my favorite characters and i changed my mind on a few too but i don’t regret reading this series。 。。。more
