I just finished this and am already excited for the next one! The characters are really fun and lovable。 The setting in Brooklyn is great! These characters bring such joy and happiness to my heart。 I finished this book with a smile on my face and was content with the journey I was guided on。 The world-building is fantastic, especially in the many details the author illustrates in each panel。 I believe in this world and these characters and can relate to many of the annoyances, enjoyments, and trivialities of life that each is dealing with。 For the sequel, the author allowed us to peek further into this world, and I appreciated lear These characters bring such joy and happiness to my heart。 I finished this book with a smile on my face and was content with the journey I was guided on。 The world-building is fantastic, especially in the many details the author illustrates in each panel。 I believe in this world and these characters and can relate to many of the annoyances, enjoyments, and trivialities of life that each is dealing with。 For the sequel, the author allowed us to peek further into this world, and I appreciated learning more about the magic and the many eclectic witches of Brooklyn。 This story was very well balanced and gave just enough for a third story to come out in the future (waiting with bated breath for 2022) with just enough satisfaction given to the reader of learning and still wanting more from these characters, their stories, and backstories。 If you enjoyed the first book, you wouldn't be disappointed with this sequel。 。。。more

Loved this second book in the "Witches of Brooklyn" series! In this story Effie learns many lessons about accepting others, what it means to be a good friend and the power of forgiveness。 These graphic novels have great messages for kids of all ages and give you all the feel good vibes。 Looking forward to the next installments in this series! 4。5* I am loving this series。 In this book, Effie gets a little jealous when a new girl shows up at her school and becomes immediately popular with her friends。 Meanwhile, Effie still has a lot of magic to learn and she discovers an even larger community of witches in Brooklyn。 I enjoyed this one even more than the first and I love the chaotic energy of Effie's household。 I am looking forward to the next one! 。。。more

This was so lovely 🥰。 I enjoyed the plot in this one a bit more - and loved how the friend group played more of a role! I really think kids would relate to what Effie goes through。 As always, I love the aunts。 Escabasse makes great use of creating an atmosphere with set pieces。。。 In particular cozy rooms are her forté (totally got me in the fall spirit)。

Not as good as book 1 , but still entertaining

Great sequel to the witches of Brooklyn! Enjoyed the art style as much as in the first book and thought the story was even better than the first。 It felt like a natural expansion of the witches universe。

I think that I enjoyed book 2 more than book 1。 We are back with the witchy family as they look into what is causing a street corner to have a saw of bad luck。 Effie is also dealing with a new girl who everyone is smitten with。 The illustrations are well done and just the way that I like them。 I look forward to reading more in the series。

Cute second book。 The author is doing a good job of telling emotionally healthy stories without making them preachy about doing the right things。

I adored this sequel so much! Our favorite witch in training is struggling with old and new friendships in this book。 I thought everything about this story was wonderful, including the surprising twist towards the end。 It was great to be back with all the amazing characters too! So happy this series is continuing!

I liked this SO MUCH more than the first one。 The characters seemed funnier and more relatable and I found a lot more humor in the artwork and dialogue。 I hope this series continues to grow and get better and better because I'm here for it! As cute and charming as the previous novel。 I really liked what this one had to say about jealousy and friendship, and how it sometimes takes time to warm up to another person--especially if you're holding a grudge against them because of your jealousy。 I also really enjoyed how this book expanded the world of the witches, introducing several new ones, and the relationship between Effie, Selemine, and Carlota continues to grow into something very lovely。 I'm really looking forward to the next bo As cute and charming as the previous novel。 I really liked what this one had to say about jealousy and friendship, and how it sometimes takes time to warm up to another person--especially if you're holding a grudge against them because of your jealousy。 I also really enjoyed how this book expanded the world of the witches, introducing several new ones, and the relationship between Effie, Selemine, and Carlota continues to grow into something very lovely。 I'm really looking forward to the next book! 。。。more

Another good one! Can’t wait for the third book! 🥰

Such a fun series!

Cute book about family & friendship!

Friends or Enemies?Another amazing book that mixes magic with everyday problems and working to grow yourself。 Friendships are hard making friends and understanding friendship changes harder。 Effie really shows how hard it is dealing with the changes whilst making your own way but even one small icebreaker can be enough。

Raven Black

Good story that flows well about friends and envy。 A full fleshed out story and less of the introductions of the first book makes this a strong and light read。, but keeps you guessing。 Good illustrations that compliment the fun of the story。

Erin

3。5: super cute! A sequel that was fine without having read the first。

Megan

I absolutely adore this graphic novel series! They’re so cute & have modern Sabrina the teenage witch vibes。 It was particularly fun to see familiar settings from Brooklyn neighborhoods like Park Slope in this one and I think it has great lessons for kids while also being fun for all ages!

Rebecca

Love this story arc and seeing Effie grow in her witchiness and expand her witchy connections。 Great themes of friendship, dealing with conflict, and growing up。

This was another cute volume in this series。 In some ways it’s similar to other middle grade books: we follow our heroine, Effie, as she she grows up and makes her way through life。 In this case, that means learning to handle jealousy and friendship drama。 But the magical aspect adds a cute twist to things, as Effie gets advice not only from her aunts, but also from an elderly witch-turned-bonsai - and learns to apply some newly-learned mediation techniques to help others solve a magical proble This was another cute volume in this series。 In some ways it’s similar to other middle grade books: we follow our heroine, Effie, as she she grows up and makes her way through life。 In this case, that means learning to handle jealousy and friendship drama。 But the magical aspect adds a cute twist to things, as Effie gets advice not only from her aunts, but also from an elderly witch-turned-bonsai - and learns to apply some newly-learned mediation techniques to help others solve a magical problem, as well! The illustrations are really cute, and emotive, similar to the first book。 Even lion wears his heart on his sleeve, and it’s fun to pick him out in illustrations he appears in, seeing how he reacts to things。 The characters are vary diverse, and while you can see the authors’ art style in them, they each have very different character designs。 One thing I though was interesting - throughout the book, most - if not all - of the sounds effects used the French onomatopoeia。 You understand what sound is being made, but it was interesting to see (though I don’t know how many I’d remember off-hand)。 。。。more

Last time round, Effie found out the elderly females she now lives with are witches, and that she has enough emergent power to be kind of their apprentice。 We start here with proof that being a modern witch is like belonging to a spiritual/arcane Neighbourhood Watch scheme – but when there is a corner of a local city junction with excessively bad mojo, well, that's when the Watching certainly demands a bit more in the way of Witching。。。It's a pity we had to see the opening scenes here, however, Last time round, Effie found out the elderly females she now lives with are witches, and that she has enough emergent power to be kind of their apprentice。 We start here with proof that being a modern witch is like belonging to a spiritual/arcane Neighbourhood Watch scheme – but when there is a corner of a local city junction with excessively bad mojo, well, that's when the Watching certainly demands a bit more in the way of Witching。。。It's a pity we had to see the opening scenes here, however, for this takes a long time to simmer to a boil。 I could tell the lack of high drama and small scope of the first book was all down to the need to set the scene and build the world, but there was little need for the start of the genre action to be so delayed here – especially if the plan is still to make this a trilogy。 Make no mistake, there is satisfaction when things tail together – when the mystery of the corner and the annoyance Effie has with the new girl in school start to dovetail – but it's just a little too dry even beyond that for this to get too high a rating。 It feels like the reins are still on, and we're still not getting the story we and these characters deserve。 。。。more
