Summary

A NEW KIND OF MAGIC

After an injury forces Kokoro to withdraw from the Four Continents Championships and sends him spiraling into another slump, Chitose wants to do whatever it takes to convince him to get back on the ice。 But to her surprise, Kokoro offers her a shocking proposition: If he places first in the World Championships, he wants to ask Chitose to be his girlfriend! The feeling is mutual, so Chitose wants nothing more than for Kokoro to win。 But when Chitose's spell-casting pen goes missing, she'll have to come up with a new kind of magic to motivate Kokoro。。。

Slooowww progression made this volume a tad bit boring。 But I think I get where the story is heading。 Please, please communicate better, you two。

This is about Chitose and Kokoro。 He's an ice skating champion that reconnects with his childhood friend and muse。I liked this volume a little bit less as it's getting a little more convoluted with the business manager interrupting every 10 seconds。 But these two are still cute! And definitely interested in reading more of this series。 This is about Chitose and Kokoro。 He's an ice skating champion that reconnects with his childhood friend and muse。I liked this volume a little bit less as it's getting a little more convoluted with the business manager interrupting every 10 seconds。 But these two are still cute! Another solid volume that I ate up!A little frustrating at times because I just want Chitose and Kokoro to get together already, but the people around them, miscommunication, their own denseness and insecurities, and other obstacles keep getting in the way。Even so, I enjoyed the payoff and there were lots of laughs and cute moments。 LOVED the flashback scene。

Still loving this 💚

The pace of this is soooo slow。 I was liking it, but damn it’s feels like it’s going to be so much drama。。。

I know Moriyama (? Kokoro's manager) is supposed to be funny, but I hate her with a passion。 I know Moriyama (? Kokoro's manager) is supposed to be funny, but I hate her with a passion。 。。。more

This wasn't my favorite volume of the bunch, but I did enjoy meeting other competitors。 And seeing the relationship develop between our inexperience portags。 This wasn't my favorite volume of the bunch, but I did enjoy meeting other competitors。 And seeing the relationship develop between our inexperience portags。 。。。more

I still love this series! But even though I love Chitose and Kokoro and their sweet relationship, I feel like the pace of this series is a bit slow?

There was much more angst in this than there was in the last volume。 I really enjoyed this one and absolutely devoured it。 I feel we are working our way more into the blooming of a relationship and that will provide plenty of romantic comedy and conflict to make my heart happy。

The World Championships are in France and Kokoro is competing for the right to ask Chitose to be his girlfriend。 Will they make nice in Nice and ending up Frenching, or is the story in need of secours? So, this volume is。。。 okay。 It’s the very definition of a middle-of-the-road instalment that makes it rather a bear to review。 It doesn’t do much of anything wrong, but it’s not getting much right either and what it’s seeding for the future could really drag things down。I do think Kokoro’s determin The World Championships are in France and Kokoro is competing for the right to ask Chitose to be his girlfriend。 Will they make nice in Nice and ending up Frenching, or is the story in need of secours? So, this volume is。。。 okay。 It’s the very definition of a middle-of-the-road instalment that makes it rather a bear to review。 It doesn’t do much of anything wrong, but it’s not getting much right either and what it’s seeding for the future could really drag things down。I do think Kokoro’s determination to keep trying to make things happen between himself and Chitose is welcome, he’s not super interesting in these chapters otherwise, and I do still enjoy the little touches like how their accents come out around each other。They also get a smattering of very nice couple moments。 Possibly the cutest is when Chitose forgets the magic wand for the spell she casts for Kokoro and improvises in a way that the latter is clearly very pleased about。Mostly, though, this volume is just aggressively average。 The skating competition lacks any oomph; since Kokoro is pushing himself to compete while injured, you know he has pretty much no chance of winning (and after the first half of the competition you likewise know the story is setting him up for failure)。 It’s not terrible, just without any real dramatic heft after all the build-up。The skating itself lacks a lot of dynamism, save for the flashback of Chitose and Kokoro’s first meeting towards the end of the book, probably my favourite part of this volume (Chitose on the ice is a delight)。 But, conversely, you can’t sell the World Championships!? That’s a problem in a book with a high skating focus。Chitose doesn’t really stick up for herself at all and that lack of confidence is relentless and a drag。 Her getting walked over by Kokoro’s manager (who is usually pretty fun but comes across as a plot complication in an apron here) just doesn’t land at all, especially after all she’s done to stay with Kokoro through her efforts prior to this。When they actually get to do stuff without any baggage or nonsense they make a pretty good couple, but I’m basing that on previous volumes because it’s not what happens here minus the parts I mentioned above。 It’s not a good ratio and this book is falling into the trap of thinking that it needs to keep pushing our leads apart while they grow together。 It wouldn’t be so noticeable if it wasn’t so hamfisted, not to mention these two are grown-ass adults who should be allowed to make their own choices (yes yes, pressures of an athlete, magical spells, etc etc, but I’m just saying)。The threat of Kokoro’s family getting involved and making things insufferable is raised again this volume and I have real reservations about that particular story thread from what’s been teased。 We’ll see how it goes next time out, I guess。。。This series isn’t exactly on thin ice yet, but it’s certainly not sticking any landings either (you’re welcome)。 With its current penchant for throwing contrived obstacles in the path of our leads, however, it has certainly lost some of its initial lustre。 。。。more

This volume was so fun!! I like the direction of the series。 I believe we are at the halfway point, and I am looking forward to the next volume!
