Summary

In the eighth book in the New York Times bestselling Spy School series, Ben Ripley faces the Croatoan—a new evil organization that’s so mysterious, the only proof it exists is from the American Revolution。

With SPYDER defeated, Ben Ripley is looking forward to his life getting back to normal, or as normal as possible when you’re a superspy in training。 Until someone bombs the CIA conference room next door。 To Ben’s astonishment, the attacker is none other than Erica Hale, the spy-in-training he respects more than any other。

His mission: prove Erica is not a double agent working against the US, locate the fabled colonial-era insurgent group that’s blackmailing her, figure out what their devious plot is, and thwart it。

But this time, Ben finds himself up against opponents he has never encountered before: his own friends。 How can he succeed when he doesn’t even know who he can trust?

Ok, so I kinda grew up w this series, so I read this one for nostalgia purposes。 Unfortunately, all it did was remind me how far the series has fallen since the first couple。Let me start with the good, out of respect for my childhood。 The characters are as charming as ever, (except for zoe--her character change was a little drastic imo), and the narration and writing style are cute and perfectly suited for a fun, trashy-in-the-best-kind-of-way middle grade romp。 Also, I demolished this book in t Ok, so I kinda grew up w this series, so I read this one for nostalgia purposes。 Unfortunately, all it did was remind me how far the series has fallen since the first couple。Let me start with the good, out of respect for my childhood。 The characters are as charming as ever, (except for zoe--her character change was a little drastic imo), and the narration and writing style are cute and perfectly suited for a fun, trashy-in-the-best-kind-of-way middle grade romp。 Also, I demolished this book in two days during a depressive period, so it was fairly engaging。 Ok。 That's about it。The bad: this new "big bad" croatoan organization makes no sense。 The whole premise--their loyalty to Spain--makes kind of sense in the revolutionary time period but makes no sense in the modern era。 And Gibbs seems to have taken the same type of approach to the croatoan and spyder (goofy villains, outlandish plans with lots of explosions in them), which doesn't work as spyder was your stereotypical dramatic villain group with lots of mustache twirling and doofenshmirtz inators, while the croatoan were billed as being full with trickery and subtlety and being so much more dangerous than spyder。 They seem like cookie cutouts to me。And I'm also curious about where gibbs is going with this new organization。 Spyder had 7 freaking books; is he going to write 6 more? How many more until this series is beating a dead horse? I'd argue it's already gotten there。 Again, I really liked the first couple in this series。 They were fun, inventive, funny, and charming, but I've felt like the later entries have made less and less sense plot-wise and gibbs has kind of been scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to character interactions and believable villainous plots。 The plot of the book itself (minus the new organization, which I've already talked about), was fairly mediocre at best。 I'm not sure I have much to say about it, other than that gibbs did zoe real dirty。 My main beef is with this new organization and its henchmen。I'm honestly not sure I'm going to read further installments in this series。 And I want to reiterate that I loved this series as a kid, and I've gone from reading middle grade hits to reading serious adult books since this series hit the shelves, so it's probably not that gibbs' writing has taken that much of a bad turn; I've just become a more critical reader and my tastes have changed。 I hope that new kids coming into this series will enjoy this installment as much as I loved the first three growing up。 。。。more

AudiobookLove this series! The characters are great and the narrator does a great job with different voices for each one。 I need to go back and re-read! LOVED the LOC reference and I caught that right away (and was really hoping it was what I thought it was)。 :)

This book was amazing。 It has so much mystery like, "Oh wow Agent Durkee is Croatoan *GASP*," a lot of it left me in shock and I was just sitting, reading, wondering how what just happened just happened。 This book was amazing。 It has so much mystery like, "Oh wow Agent Durkee is Croatoan *GASP*," a lot of it left me in shock and I was just sitting, reading, wondering how what just happened just happened。 。。。more

I liked this book and how mike had a explosion in his underwear。 I liked the end when Trixie was nice and then mean。 It was funny。 This is a good book。

Entry number eight in what I feel is the best young adult series not named Harry Potter。 This is another fun book though it lacks some of the humor of the best of the previous books in the series。 The mystery and action are still fun and the characters are advanced in this book。 As always the writing is good and appropriate for all young adult readers。 This one also mixes in some fun U。S。 history。 Recommended as usual。

Definitely a book you should check out。 It is a fast and easy book to read if you don't have a lot of time - like me - and took less than a day。 It continues to follow the plot of Spy School but instead of SPYDER has a new, rising evil organization。 Pros: Easy, fast, eliminates Zoe - did I mention I hated her? - and strengthens the relationship between characters。 Cons: Not my favorite of the series。 Definitely a book you should check out。 It is a fast and easy book to read if you don't have a lot of time - like me - and took less than a day。 It continues to follow the plot of Spy School but instead of SPYDER has a new, rising evil organization。 Pros: Easy, fast, eliminates Zoe - did I mention I hated her? - and strengthens the relationship between characters。 Cons: Not my favorite of the series。 。。。more

Generic Spy School novel, nothing specialSo, here we have it, installment #8 in Stuart Gibbs' Spy School series。 This one was inspired by a visit by Gibbs to Mount Vernon, (George Washington's estate), where Gibbs learned that Washington was the first spymaster of the USA。 (The Afterword is worth a read -- in it Gibbs carefully sets out which parts of the book are true facts about Washington and which made-up fantasies。) The result is a formulaic Spy School novel。 We have Ben Ripley, a gifted ki Generic Spy School novel, nothing specialSo, here we have it, installment #8 in Stuart Gibbs' Spy School series。 This one was inspired by a visit by Gibbs to Mount Vernon, (George Washington's estate), where Gibbs learned that Washington was the first spymaster of the USA。 (The Afterword is worth a read -- in it Gibbs carefully sets out which parts of the book are true facts about Washington and which made-up fantasies。) The result is a formulaic Spy School novel。 We have Ben Ripley, a gifted kid who achieves excellent results by not being stupid, Ben's friends who are well-intentioned and sometimes competent, and the ever-expanding dysfunctional Hale family made up of the World's worst spies, who believe themselves to be the World's best spies。 If you love the Spy School books, you will probably love this one, too。For me, to be honest, it fell a bit flat。 What I like about Spy School is the humor and Ben。 In the first book, Spy School, Ben is brought into spy school under false pretenses and set up to fail。 By showing unique gifts, Ben manages to succeed despite adverse circumstances。 (The reality is that, for the most part, Ben succeeds by being good at things that a real-world spy needs to be good at, while Spy School teaches skills of the James Bond-spy variety。 Anyone who has thought about intelligence work seriously knows that James Bond would have been an absolutely terrible spy。 So the Spy School series is a sneaky way of showing what it really takes to be a good spy in the real world。) It is always a pleasure to see someone succeed through unexpected merit。 Unfortunately, we have little of that pleasure in Spy School Revolution。 Somehow Ben never really shines。 As for the humor, this one was really not all that funny。 After the joke about blowing up the Witness Protection Program vehicle if they park in the wrong spot again, there was little in it that made me laugh。Also, I have a shocking revelation to make。 Stuart Gibbs has not read The Iliad。 (Or had not when he wrote Spy School Revolution。) I base this claim on the following passage, where Ben writes:The Iliad was the ancient Greek poem that told the story of the Trojan War。 I had tried reading it in sixth grade, though I had ended up skimming most of it to get to the good parts, like where the Greeks scammed the Trojans with the Trojan horse。 In actual fact, the story of the Trojan horse appears nowhere in The Iliad。 The Iliad ends before the fall of Troy。 The story of the Trojan horse is told in The Aeneid, written hundreds of years later by the Roman poet Virgil。 This error makes nonsense of a major plot point of the last few chapters of Spy School Revolution。 You can self-correct this fault by mentally substituting "The Aeneid" for "The Iliad" throughout Spy School Revolution。 。。。more

Very fun, more dramatic than the previous books, definitely more plot twists。 More stuff in it about relationships, and left it with a big plot twist at the end, can't wait for the next book。 Very fun, more dramatic than the previous books, definitely more plot twists。 More stuff in it about relationships, and left it with a big plot twist at the end, can't wait for the next book。 。。。more

This edition of Spy School was really fun!I'm not going to write 15 paragraphs or whatever, so:Storyline9/10: Amazing storyline, just the storyline for a very good book with action, plot twists, and of course, betrayal! Another exciting Spy School book by Gibbs。Characters7/10: The characters aren't BAD。 The characters sometimes seem boring。Villain/Hero10/10: The best part。 The villains are usually very creative throughout the books- oh, my favorite being, of course, Murray Hill。Setting(s):9/10: This edition of Spy School was really fun!I'm not going to write 15 paragraphs or whatever, so:Storyline9/10: Amazing storyline, just the storyline for a very good book with action, plot twists, and of course, betrayal! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This has got to be the BEST book in the series。 I thought the plot about the crotan (excuse me if I spelt that wrong) was amazing, and made perfect sense。I think the use of the characters in the series was great, and the cliffhanger about Erica’s sister at the end。I can’t wait for the next book。

I loved Revolution!! Seeing Erica's character development throughout the series has been amazing。 When I finished it, I actually felt sad that there wasn't more。 This book easily has some of the funniest moments of the series。 Maybe this isn't supposed to happen, but I love every single character in Spy School。 It doesn't matter if they're a good guy or not, because for what they lack in morals or ingenuity they make up in endless entertainment。 This book is easily a top-five favorite。 I loved Revolution!!
