Summary

Taking place during Batman's early days of crime fighting, this new edition of the classic mystery tells the story of a mysterious killer who murders his prey only on holidays。 Working with District Attorney Harvey Dent and Lieutenant James Gordon, Batman races against the clock as he tries to discover who Holiday is before he claims his next victim each month。 A mystery that has the reader continually guessing the identity of the killer, this story also ties into the events that transform Harvey Dent into Batman's deadly enemy, Two-Face。

Its a good story。。。 it contains Dent's transformation as well the mob family drama Batman faces。 I love how it stretches out across the holidays and includes a ton of rogues。 The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the ending。。。 the payout never was a homerun for me。 I could never decide if I hate it or love it。。。 I mean, it works but not sure if it works for me。 Still great though。 Its a good story。。。 it contains Dent's transformation as well the mob family drama Batman faces。 I love how it stretches out across the holidays and includes a ton of rogues。 The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the ending。。。 the payout never was a homerun for me。 I could never decide if I hate it or love it。。。 I mean, it works but not sure if it works for me。 Still great though。 。。。more

Un clásico por excelencia。 Una gozada de principio a fin。 Qué dibujo。 Me encanta toda la trama de asesinatos。 Es un must en las historias del murciélago。 No os lo perdáis。

The Long Halloween fills the reader with a classic noire style Batman story that oozes style。 The color contrasts used are very eye catching even if the linework is not my cup of tea。 The story is filled with mysterious killings of mobsters on various holidays and an emphasis on "believing"。 Beleiving in the city, a person, or an ideal is what this story is filled with and it does not dissapoint。 The Long Halloween fills the reader with a classic noire style Batman story that oozes style。 The color contrasts used are very eye catching even if the linework is not my cup of tea。 The story is filled with mysterious killings of mobsters on various holidays and an emphasis on "believing"。 Beleiving in the city, a person, or an ideal is what this story is filled with and it does not dissapoint。 。。。more

There’s a reason that this is a classic tale on the level of a Year One or Dark Knight Returns。 It’s an excellent story and a fun mystery that focuses on the street level side of things and provides clear inspiration to Nolan’s films。 With that said, there are a couple of storytelling hiccups along the way in terms of clarity and sequencing。 Still, a book definitely worth your time。

If someone ask me to name one single definitive Batman book to experience everything about Batman and his universe then I would say The Long Holloween。 If someone say which is the best Batman story you've read so far then I would say The Long Holloween。 If someone say which is your fav version of Batman? Then I would say the one from The Long Holloween。My expectations were quit high for this one and honestly this book fulfilled them more than I could think。 After reading haunted knight, I was expecting another spooky ghostly tale of Batman by the title "The long holloween", but what it turned out is a masterfully created murder mystery that spans from one holloween to the another。 This book was so different, so unique, so enjoyable, so beautiful, so exciting and so satisfying to read。 First time I felt that someone has utilized the 100% of comic book medium of storytelling in superhero genre。 From the first page to the very last panel, I was so hooked and engaged in this story that I couldn't put it down until I finished it。 Loeb created such an intriguing mystery that I was dying to know, who is the holiday killer? And even after that, this book left some unanswered questions that made me scratch my head for some time。 Loeb was at his best form in this book。 The way he created the sense of mystery, the way he used each character of batman roster one by one with such a brilliance, the way he made the characters so real and alive and went into psychological side of them was just amazing。 The way Batman and Gordon fails and their beliefs falls apart and the way Harvey's morality gets shattered and falls into darkness of insanity was so tragic to see。 I could feel the inner dilemmas, conflicts and frustrations of every characters, I could feel the intensity and stakes of whole atmosphere。 This is the finest creation of Loeb and Sale that has a very well crafted murder mystery which keeps you engaged from first page to the very last with mind blowing Artwork that has best possible design of each character。 It's really a cult classic that deserves its place among the best Batman books ever written! A must read! 。。。more

This is one of my favorite Batman stories, it is a great combination of art and writing。 The beats are perfect, and it is a very self-contained miniseries (you don't have to read the other collected volumes in the series to enjoy this one)。 This is one of my favorite Batman stories, it is a great combination of art and writing。 The beats are perfect, and it is a very self-contained miniseries (you don't have to read the other collected volumes in the series to enjoy this one)。 。。。more

Fantastic✨I really enjoyed this one, so much so I ordered the Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale Batman omnibus, so really excited about that。 This story was VERY well-written, and kept me interested throughout。Batman was written just how I like him, and Catwoman was great too。 I loved the inclusion of all the different villains from Batman's rogue gallery, and was genuinely surprised at the ending, even though I did *think* of it beforehand。Tim Sale's artwork isn't anything TOO special on its own, but there's Fantastic✨I really enjoyed this one, so much so I ordered the Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale Batman omnibus, so really excited about that。 This story was VERY well-written, and kept me interested throughout。Batman was written just how I like him, and Catwoman was great too。 I loved the inclusion of all the different villains from Batman's rogue gallery, and was genuinely surprised at the ending, even though I did *think* of it beforehand。Tim Sale's artwork isn't anything TOO special on its own, but there's something about it that just works。 It's very classic and stylised, and that really helps move the story along。 Anyways, a true five-star read, and I can't wait to watch the movie🎥 🎃 。。。more

After many years of hearing how great this story was, I finally read "Batman: The Long Halloween。" While I'm not sure it lived up to the hype, it certainly was a well-crafted and executed detective story which took advantage of the length and breadth of the Batman universe。 At times, plotlines are left unresolved but for the most part, the story was easy to follow。 Tim Sale's artwork was good but also inconsistent and, at times, hard to follow。 The entire sequence featuring Batman fighting the J After many years of hearing how great this story was, I finally read "Batman: The Long Halloween。" While I'm not sure it lived up to the hype, it certainly was a well-crafted and executed detective story which took advantage of the length and breadth of the Batman universe。 At times, plotlines are left unresolved but for the most part, the story was easy to follow。 Tim Sale's artwork was good but also inconsistent and, at times, hard to follow。 The entire sequence featuring Batman fighting the Joker on a biplane was hard to follow and unbelievable。 If you had no background in Batman stories, for example, you would think the Caped Crusader had flying abilities。 。。。more

*SPOILERS*I wanted to enjoy TLH more than I did。 I found the book to meander about four or five parts in, and it felt as if this were the case to uphold the concept of the arc, that is, Holiday carry out their killings and intensifying the mystery。I liked the first reveal of Holiday but that last twist was absolutely unnecessary and added nothing to the overall mystery。 In my head canon, those last few pages just don’t exist。Besides that final twist, I thought it was a solid, if clunky mystery。 *SPOILERS*I wanted to enjoy TLH more than I did。 I found the book to meander about four or five parts in, and it felt as if this were the case to uphold the concept of the arc, that is, Holiday carry out their killings and intensifying the mystery。I liked the first reveal of Holiday but that last twist was absolutely unnecessary and added nothing to the overall mystery。 In my head canon, those last few pages just don’t exist。Besides that final twist, I thought it was a solid, if clunky mystery。 More style of substance? With a great twist。 I loved the writing and dialogue, but would have liked to see slightly better art, although the noir style did work well in places and I did enjoy the Christmas section。 One loose end that was never tied up… are we just going to leave the scarecrow, joker, mad hatter et al。 To continue to roam free? — none of them were even really necessary to the story were they?? not a terribly important piece of the puzzle, just an observation。 Overall, highly recomme A great ‘who dunnit’! I often hear grumbling that the comic book industry is dying, and unfortunately I see a lot of truth in that concern。 As a fan of the genre and artistry that comes out of it, I’m generally worried about the apocalyptic writing on the wall。 I do however think there is an easy fix, and it is demonstrated through books like this。 Instead of worrying about matching your art with the social and political climate of the time, focus on telling a good story。 Too many comic book writers today have a lot I often hear grumbling that the comic book industry is dying, and unfortunately I see a lot of truth in that concern。 As a fan of the genre and artistry that comes out of it, I’m generally worried about the apocalyptic writing on the wall。 I do however think there is an easy fix, and it is demonstrated through books like this。 Instead of worrying about matching your art with the social and political climate of the time, focus on telling a good story。 Too many comic book writers today have a lot to say, but they are unable to escape the current social echo chambers of the world around them, and what you are left with is a soulless regurgitation of obvious motifs and tired commentary。 Loeb’s work is not devoid of commentary, quite the opposite, but he has infused this work with the skill and panache of a classical painter and not the wrecking-ball abandonment of a modern day writer。 The current world needs a lot of things, but in the world of comic books, the most pressing thing they need is a compelling story。 。。。more

I'm kind of sorry I took so long to read this graphic novel because it really is a seminal piece of Batman lore。 In some ways it's sort of bizarre in that it's inconsistent in how detailed the story is told - for instance, the part where Poison Ivy mind controls Bruce Wayne - apparently he just goes off with her for a long period of time and it's presented as, one panel she seduces him, a couple pages later, they're sitting in Wayne Manor and nobody but Catwoman has noticed。 However, the overall I'm kind of sorry I took so long to read this graphic novel because it really is a seminal piece of Batman lore。 In some ways it's sort of bizarre in that it's inconsistent in how detailed the story is told - for instance, the part where Poison Ivy mind controls Bruce Wayne - apparently he just goes off with her for a long period of time and it's presented as, one panel she seduces him, a couple pages later, they're sitting in Wayne Manor and nobody but Catwoman has noticed。 However, the overall story does a terrific job of keeping you guessing。 There are clues and red herrings, and just when you think you have it figured out, they pull the rug out from under you。 Even up to the very end。 I'm still not a huge fan of Tim Sale's art。 It's also inconsistent, in some ways being a brilliant combination of a throw back style mixed with Frank Miller, but the close ups of people are somewhere between abstract and rough sketch。 And the crazy way some of the villains like Scarecrow and Joker are drawn are just too out of whack compared to the rest of the style of the art。 But overall, this story did catch me off guard and proved that not all of the mid-90s comics were subpar。 。。。more

I would give this a 4。5 if Goodreads allowed that, but I'm closer to a 4 than a 5 when it comes to that。 This was my first Batman graphic novel and I really enjoyed it。 I read it because I wanted to watch The Long Halloween movies in October, so I thought I'd read it before then to have a gap between the reading and viewing。 When I checked it out at the library, the cover had Christopher Nolan's quote on it about the story。 That gave me a lot of hope because Christopher Nolan is my favorite film I would give this a 4。5 if Goodreads allowed that, but I'm closer to a 4 than a 5 when it comes to that。 This was my first Batman graphic novel and I really enjoyed it。 I read it because I wanted to watch The Long Halloween movies in October, so I thought I'd read it before then to have a gap between the reading and viewing。 When I checked it out at the library, the cover had Christopher Nolan's quote on it about the story。 That gave me a lot of hope because Christopher Nolan is my favorite film director, and if he loved this Batman story then I had a lot of hope going into it。 My only issues with this were the pacing and the ending。 Before I get to the end I'll talk about the pacing。 I thought in the first half of the book the pacing was a bit too fast。 Things could've slowed down a bit in order to build on Gotham better and develop the characters more。 The characters are well developed, but I think they could've been better if there was more time like the Falcone and Maroni family。 Now to the ending。 I really enjoyed the ending as it did a good job unraveling the mystery of who the killer is and giving Harvey Dent a nice arc, but to me it didn't really do the best job ending the villains like Poison Ivy, Joker, Catwoman, etc。 It's up in the air with what happens to them and they never really got a proper ending。 Other than that I really enjoyed this。 I thought there was a lot of great action and adventure throughout the entire book。 The pictures were all detailed and really helped bring a nice cinematic tone to it。 I also thought that the Batman we got in this was amazing。 It's the Batman we know and love and they didn't change anything about him。 I also thought Commissioner Gordon was great too。 I've always liked his character as the straight forward assistant for Batman and they did a nice job with him in this。 Another thing I loved was how it immediately grabs you into the story。 When you finish reading the first page you are automatically hooked as it gives an interesting story that you want to know what happens in。 This is an incredible read that I recommend for Batman fans。 If it had a little work with the pacing and dove into what happens to some of the villains in the end, then this would be a 5。 But regardless it's great。GRADEA- 。。。more

Great story! Very captivating - it kept you guessing along with the story。 I loved that all the famous villains got an episode。 The ending was a bit confusing, maybe it’s less confusing on a second read。Didn’t really like the art style, but it was pleasant enough。 I did the enjoy the double-page art interludes a lot。

A damn good, well rounded and well grounded, Batman story。 A good number of Batman’s Rogues Gallery show up in interesting and ‘realistic’ ways。 Really enjoyed reading it。
