Beautiful read。

I was afraid I would be let down by the book despite all the glowing reviews, but it was such a lovely read。 It’s a slow moving story at first, and as it goes on it just becomes more and more touching。 I enjoyed how the romantic love wasn’t the main focus, instead showing how deep familial bonds can grow to be。 10/10 book that made me cry sometimes because it was touching, and I rarely cry over books。

the blob monster who wants to grow up to be a bell hop; the wyvern whose wings are to big for him, and who collects buttons; the gnome girl who likes gardening and the idea of violence; my precious, abused, and introverted, pomeranian shape shifter, and a young, forest sprite whose grown her own forest。 Infact, anytime the kids were off page, I found myself disinterested and impatient for their return。 That's because the plot is severely lacking。 For most the book there is no source of conflict to drive the story, so there's nothing keeping me invested except the characters。 So when the characters I'm actually invested in are of screen it's like trudging through mud。 Linus is white bread, and without any other characters to give him flavor, he's not particularly appetizing。 His purpose in this story is to learn a lesson and grow as a person, but there's not much of a person there to stay with。 He has no goals or aspirations for me to root for。 He's basically a device for the "plot" to move through。 Arthur was more interesting, but had very little agency。 We hint at him losing his cool once in a while, but it never amounts to anything。 His plot twist had little impact, because most the book is spent in this slice of life daze。 We're told about the prejudices and hardships the characters face, but they're never made to face them on page。 There's a lot of tell, and little show, so there's not a lot of emotional pay off。 And anytime there's any hint of conflict is solved immediately with a speech。 It's very anime esque, minus the cool fight scenes。 I would have loved to have seen the promised "burn the world to ground" the blurp boasted, but I didn't even get as close as a lit match。 Which made what should have been the most impactful scenes, usually the most boring。 I wish the author would have explored and done something with the struggles presented to our characters。 I would have liked to have seen more done with Lucy and his struggles with morality。 With Sal, and him grow out of the mental cage his emotional trauma pit him through, and stepping into the role of a leader that his character so easily could have。 There was so much left untouched when it came to the characters。 The book is really this shallow read, that when you catch the surface, there's more surface。 Another thing this book love to do is preach these empty platitudes。 It's full of morals it never explores, which adds to that aforementioned shallowness。 It so desperately wanted to be something thought provoking and profound, but never put in any of the work。 What this story is is a wonderful rom-com。 It's written like one, the plot that's there lens itself to this genere, and when read as one, it's a fantastic little book。 There's lots of comedy and fluff, and an emphasis on finding one's self and being a better person。 The majority of the book is written like a slice of life where the kids have family dinners, go on imaginary adventures, and get ice cream。 And I could honestly read another book like this。 Especially if we cut out all the posturing and pretense。 The romance is sweet and wholesome, the found family bond are pure, and the moral monologs of dialed down could actually lend to it。 I did really like this book。 Maybe it doesn't sound like it, but my disappointment comes from a place of truly wanting to see this story reach its full potential。 As it is, it's a strawman that almost feels like a mockery to the morals is trying to teach at times by not giving them the just amount of time and effort they deserve。 It often leaves an icky feeling in one's gut when it's underlying metaphors for racism are held up, and a lot of that build down to a lack of effort and research。 But what the author does do well, he does well, wonderfully。 Read this for the characters。 Read this for the humor。 Read this for the romance。 Read this if you're having a bad day and want something warm and happy to soothe your mind, but don't read this for anything else。My only regret is that I could not bring myself to grant this 4 stars。 。。。more

What an incredibly wonderful book with all the feelings。 If you want to feel all warm and fuzzy inside, look no further。 The plot was predictable every step of the way and it didn't matter one bit。 So much fun to read。 I miss it already。 What an incredibly wonderful book with all the feelings。 If you want to feel all warm and fuzzy inside, look no further。 The plot was predictable every step of the way and it didn't matter one bit。 So much fun to read。 I miss it already。 。。。more

Considering knocking off a star or two due to the difficulties that came with reading this book; The blinding amounts of tears that pooled in my eyes were embarrassing, and the way my heart ached for the characters throughout the whole book wasn't any fun。But I'm an emotional mess, and I honestly think that this book is one of my favorites, so I'm rating 5/5。 Considering knocking off a star or two due to the difficulties that came with reading this book; The blinding amounts of tears that pooled in my eyes were embarrassing, and the way my heart ached for the characters throughout the whole book wasn't any fun。But I'm an emotional mess, and I honestly think that this book is one of my favorites, so I'm rating 5/5。 。。。more

It's a been a few months since I found a book I could devour and I thought maybe I've become jaded。 Thank god this book proved me wrong。 It's a modern fairy tale。 It's sappy and heartwarming and the hurt is mostly in the past。 The last sentence of the book brought me to tears (still does when I remember it)。 It's a been a few months since I found a book I could devour and I thought maybe I've become jaded。 Thank god this book proved me wrong。 It's a modern fairy tale。 It's sappy and heartwarming and the hurt is mostly in the past。 The last sentence of the book brought me to tears (still does when I remember it)。 。。。more
