Summary

New York Times bestselling author Renée Ahdieh returns with the second installment of her new sumptuous, sultry and romantic series, The Beautiful。

Following the events of The Beautiful, Sébastien Saint Germain is now cursed and forever changed。 The treaty between the Fallen and the Brotherhood has been broken, and war between the immortals seems imminent。 The price of loving Celine was costly。 But Celine has also paid a high price for loving Bastien。

Still recovering from injuries sustained during a night she can’t quite remember, her dreams are troubled。 And she doesn’t know she has inadvertently set into motion a chain of events that could lead to her demise and unveil a truth about herself she’s not quite ready to learn。

Forces hiding in the shadows have been patiently waiting for this moment for centuries。 And just as Bastien and Celine begin to uncover the danger around them, they learn their love could tear them apart。

This was better than the first book (hence three stars) but I still struggled connecting to the story。 This book focused on Sébastien's point of view, especially early in the story, where as the first leans on Celine's POV。 It also puts a better perspective on the happenings of the first book。 And there's a new plot spinning off to take us into a third book。 But something about the pacing and changing POVs (sometimes that seem unrelated to the plot) made it hard to dive into the story。 Then ther This was better than the first book (hence three stars) but I still struggled connecting to the story。 This book focused on Sébastien's point of view, especially early in the story, where as the first leans on Celine's POV。 It also puts a better perspective on the happenings of the first book。 And there's a new plot spinning off to take us into a third book。 But something about the pacing and changing POVs (sometimes that seem unrelated to the plot) made it hard to dive into the story。 Then there was the actions at the big standoff towards the end。。。。the self-sacrifice and the shot by Michael。。。。that seemed out of character or didn't make sense。 That being said, if you really liked the first book, you'll like this one too。 。。。more

Woah, woah, woah。 Okay… the twists and turns in this is mind blowing 🤯。 This book is mainly told through the POV of Bastien but this has multiple POV chapters。 I feel like this book is mainly about how he overcomes his what has happened to him。 Dang it was glorious! This book did not disappoint! Enjoyed seeing chapters from different points of view。 Would have liked a little more romance though between our favorite couple! Impatiently waiting for the release of the third book already!

While this was a step back from its predecessor this was still entertaining enough。 Too many POVS and Celine not being the main force of the book made me a little sad。 This is more of a Sebastian book I would say。

I enjoyed this book, but it did not seem to carry well from the first book。 It felt like a completely different series。 The first one was more about New Orleans and vampires and werewolves and this one brought in Fey。 I also felt like there was not enough world building when they added the Fey and the Vale and Wyld。 They did not do much with their time in the other worlds and it was not developed it seemed more rushed。 Also there was not much built with her relationship with her mother or even h I enjoyed this book, but it did not seem to carry well from the first book。 It felt like a completely different series。 The first one was more about New Orleans and vampires and werewolves and this one brought in Fey。 I also felt like there was not enough world building when they added the Fey and the Vale and Wyld。 They did not do much with their time in the other worlds and it was not developed it seemed more rushed。 Also there was not much built with her relationship with her mother or even her feelings about her mother and finding out she is alive and who she is。 The ending also was a little disappointing because of the fact that one of the main characters died and not much was talked about with it and because it didn’t seem detailed enough 。。。more

And we are BACK! I don't know why I took such a long intermission to get back to business on this series。 I truly love a good vampire story。 It is one of lifes simple pleasures is it not? 4。5* The beginning was so slow it truly took me a while to get into it but it’s okay because after that it picked up and the plot was fun。 I love love love Celine and Bastien so much。 I’m genuinely so excited for the next book!!

I hate to say this because I ADORED the first book。 But that being said, this book was such a disappointment。Spoiler filled review here:This book turned very Twilight very fast。 As an avid lover of Twilight that isn't necessarily a bad thing, but in this case it just didn't work。 (view spoiler)[ We have a memory-less Celine, which in the book's defense, I absolutely hate this trope and wasn't satisfied with the ending of the previous book so this could just be my preference, that simply lost all I hate to say this because I ADORED the first book。 But that being said, this book was such a disappointment。Spoiler filled review here:This book turned very Twilight very fast。 As an avid lover of Twilight that isn't necessarily a bad thing, but in this case it just didn't work。 (view spoiler)[ We have a memory-less Celine, which in the book's defense, I absolutely hate this trope and wasn't satisfied with the ending of the previous book so this could just be my preference, that simply lost all of herself。 She lost all of the fire and strong will she had in the first book, and honestly, was BARELY IN THIS ONE! For a main character, there was a lot less Celine to be seen here。 Then we have Bastian, who I loved in the first book, but annoyed me SO much in this one。 This is arguably his book, as I stated before we have Celine with no memories and barely any chapters。 But I found that in this book Bastian was just so。。。 whiny? And so dramatic? Very much so like all of the worst parts of Edward Cullen's character (since I love Edward)。 I understand that he did not want to become a vampire and that he desperately missed Celine, but his reaction was simply terrible。 He acted so out of character for the entire book to the point where he just got so annoying, that the side characters were more interesting than he was! Odette, Jae, and Arjun were so much more interesting here。 Odette also sort of fell into the trap of longing for Celine, but I loved learning more about Jae and Arjun, especially Jae。This book had a lot more of Michael and Celine。 Which, I like Michael so I wasn't necessarily upset。 It was just SUCH Jacob Black syndrome because it was so painfully obvious that there was no way that they'd end up together。 Celine loved Bastian even while forgetting he existed, she never described her moments with Michael the same way she described them with Bastian。 Therefore, most of the book I just felt bad for Michael。 The poor guy was so sweet and did all he could to help her in her recovery and was seriously just an all around nice guy。 And Celine, though I will admit she was aware that what she was doing was wrong, kind of just led him on because she knew he was her best choice。 Which is just terrible??? Ok, so Emilie being the villain。 Emilie, in theory, was the PERFECT villain。 She had every reason to hate Nicodemus, hell I hate him for what he did to her too! BUT, her reason for hating Bastian and wanting to hurt him as well was just a tad weak to me。 I also didn't like that she actually didn't care for Luca either, because that man and his family literally saved her life? And she's like I'll marry you but only so I can use you to kill my uncle and little brother??But here's the whole worst part of the story that ultimately just made the book a mess: Celine's mother。 Of course Celine is half fae, of course she is! After there being no inkling in the first book or even in the beginning of this book at all that she is any sort of mythical creature! Even the Jae plot line about him watching over her for her mom doesn't really correspond because he wasn't doing it in the first book! Like I feel like this idea of Celine being fae just came out of nowhere! Like she lived in Paris with her dad, killed a boy and fled to New Orleans, and now is suddenly the most important mythical being for the entire mythical realm?? It just was so out of left field for me。 I would've been perfectly fine and actually preferred if Celine was just a plain human。 Or even if she wasn't and that was the only plot line。 The book didn't need all of these plot lines, the lost memories, the love triangle, Emilie, the Sylvan Vale, Celine's parentage, Bastian becoming a vampire, Nicodemus's plans, it was all SO much。 It just made the book very messy and made the writing (which is so unfortunate because Ahdieh is SUCH a good writer) very weak。 Also just to quickly mention the change in writing style, I don't mind that each chapter was based on a different character。 I feel like this ultimately played into the messiness unfortunately。 It also was a bit weird that Bastian's was the only one written in first person POV and the rest were third though。 (hide spoiler)]Also, I thought this series was a duology but it seems there's another one coming out soon。 I don't know if I'm going to read it or not, as I was very disappointed by this book。 I might wait to see the reviews and see if it's worth the time, but as of right now, I don't think so。 。。。more

Everything in this books from the deaths to the betrayals had me in tears and so surprising。 My hearts aches for the characters and their situations。 I went and bought this the day I finished the first one and started it right away and it was absolutely worth the sleep that I lost and the tears that I cried。

Nothing happens in this book even the “build up” towards the end was blah

So my rating for the previous book the beautiful was three stars mostly because I didn’t know anyone’s backstory and they didn’t explain what characters were creatures, etc。 Luckily this book was able to shed light on who everyone was and where they came from, I feel like most of the holes in the plot had been filled。 I feel as though the series could stop with this book here, I don’t know how good the third one is but I’m not very interested to read it。 I don’t think I could dread reading the s So my rating for the previous book the beautiful was three stars mostly because I didn’t know anyone’s backstory and they didn’t explain what characters were creatures, etc。 Luckily this book was able to shed light on who everyone was and where they came from, I feel like most of the holes in the plot had been filled。 I feel as though the series could stop with this book here, I don’t know how good the third one is but I’m not very interested to read it。 I don’t think I could dread reading the series any longer they were already reaching with making the second book, I don’t think I could get much more out of the third。 That being said, this book was also very well written and had some exciting parts。 I was hoping for a little more sexy vampire vibe, but this is definitely more of just a fantasy series。 。。。more

I’d say I was unimpressed when starting the book, I’m not a fan of multiple narrators and there are so many in this book。 But I like the turns and the fairy world added。 I would say solid 3。5 stars。 I also like the Michael twist as well, it’s very twilight but better because more mature people and New Orleans。 Overall not bad。 I would recommend to fantasy lovers。

I got to read a sneak peak of this and I was heavily invested with what was going on I have never read the series so I am definitely going to do that now。 I am obsessed with vampires in books。 They always are so different from one to another。 I really enjoyed the French parts as I took a French in high school。 Talking about this book?
