Summary

Discover Holly Black's blood thirsty bestselling The Folk of the Air series in this gorgeous paperback gift set including: The Cruel PrinceThe Wicked King, and The Queen of Nothing

Of course I want to be like them。 They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire。 They will live forever。

And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest。 I hate him more than all the others。 I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe。

Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie。 Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality。 But many of the fey despise humans。 Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King。

To win a place at the Court, she must defy him--and face the consequences。

In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed。 But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself。

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black comes the stunning The Folk of the Air trilogy filled with twists and enchantment, as one girl learns the meaning of true power when she finds herself caught in a web of royal faerie intrigue。

The entire series is a 4/5。 It started out rocky。 I took an entire week off not opening this book because it was just terrible。 The narration and writing was good; it was interesting and enough to keep me reading the next page, but the storyline was not。 The second book was tolerable。 I was convinced to drop this series after the first one but i figured that the plot has a lot of potential, and maybe it could get interesting。 My thirst could be satiated。 True enough, the 2nd book delivered well。 The entire series is a 4/5。 It started out rocky。 I took an entire week off not opening this book because it was just terrible。 The narration and writing was good; it was interesting and enough to keep me reading the next page, but the storyline was not。 The second book was tolerable。 I was convinced to drop this series after the first one but i figured that the plot has a lot of potential, and maybe it could get interesting。 My thirst could be satiated。 True enough, the 2nd book delivered well。 The 3rd book was exciting。 And juicy。 I liked that the protagonists relationship was already established and nurtured。 The plot is not really that mind-boggling but it was enough to keep me up my toes。 I love it。 。。。more

It's like a fairytale。 There are curses, faes, princes, kings, spies, swords fighting, magic, humans, different creatures。 There is everything。 There are twists, strategies, tricks, manipulation, betrayals, Jude is a badass。 Yea, I just loved it。 And also, if you are looking for romance driven book this isn't one。 Beacause when I read it I thought I was gonna read romance and suddenly I was reading politics。 It's like a fairytale。 There are curses, faes, princes, kings, spies, swords fighting, magic, humans, different creatures。 There is everything。 There are twists, strategies, tricks, manipulation, betrayals, Jude is a badass。 Yea, I just loved it。 And also, if you are looking for romance driven book this isn't one。 Beacause when I read it I thought I was gonna read romance and suddenly I was reading politics。 。。。more

This series is what got me so obsessed with fantasy and romance。 The world that is built from this series is beautiful and the relationships that form will have you anticipating what happens next。 It’s suspenseful, full of mystery, and a very well written trilogy。 Definitely keeping these books on my shelf for a long long time。

This series is great, it really immersed you in the book with simple descriptions of everything from the environment to the smallest details。 In my opinion the Queen Of Nothing is the best book, as it brings the other two books together。 This is an awesome, action packed, and surprisingly different take at a fantasy-court-kingdom-enemies-book series

I really enjoyed this series! I went into thinking it was an enemies to lovers with romance and was surprised that the plot of the series was not focused on love, but royal politics。 I was not disappointed in this。 Book 1: 4。5 stars。 My favourite of the series。 The ending was a good twist。 Jude’s story was well written and easy to follow on。 Book 2: 4。5 stars。 It still held up with book one, and again a good twist。 I liked having more Cardan in the book along with the politics。 Books 3: 3。5 star I really enjoyed this series! I binged this trilogy last weekend。 When faced with a choice, I always prioritize characterization above plot。 For me, this author seems to emphasize plot over character and world-building。 I felt like her representation of Faerie was not as rich as other series I've encountered。 That being said, it was engaging and I think the trilogy as a whole is stronger than the first book。 I liked the twists and turns of the plot and the power plays of the characters。 I was invested in the characters I jus I binged this trilogy last weekend。 When faced with a choice, I always prioritize characterization above plot。 For me, this author seems to emphasize plot over character and world-building。 I felt like her representation of Faerie was not as rich as other series I've encountered。 That being said, it was engaging and I think the trilogy as a whole is stronger than the first book。 I liked the twists and turns of the plot and the power plays of the characters。 I was invested in the characters I just would have liked more access to their internal workings and for Jude, the main character, to be a bit more complex than "I want power。" Additionally, some of these minor characters play a major part in the plot, so I need to know more about them to care about what happens to them (for example, Ghost)。 。。。more

Why I hate the cruel prince with every fibre of my beingLet’s start off with the most awkward writing that conveyed no emotion and lacked the beckoning of any form of attachment to Jude for the reader to have。 This book is all tell no show and so damn repetitive it made me want to shit out my intestines。 “I did this。 I hate cardan。 I love the father figure who killed my parents。” Her character has absolutely no depth。 There is no reason for a human to be sent to ‘faerie land’ which btw a child c Why I hate the cruel prince with every fibre of my beingLet’s start off with the most awkward writing that conveyed no emotion and lacked the beckoning of any form of attachment to Jude for the reader to have。 This book is all tell no show and so damn repetitive it made me want to shit out my intestines。 “I did this。 I hate cardan。 I love the father figure who killed my parents。” Her character has absolutely no depth。 There is no reason for a human to be sent to ‘faerie land’ which btw a child could think up a more creative name, and her motive being what? That they bullied her? That she did not fit in? the author could have utilised her biggest trauma which is seeing her parents killed by who now is her father figure or whatever the fuck and used that in her character development。 She could have made that the reason she goes into ‘faerie land’。 Revenge against the man who killed her parents right in front of her, Madoc, and for what? But instead what does she do, she reiterated throughout the majority of the books that she loves him despite his ‘faults’。 Excuse me!? Not to mention the fact that she looks up to him and wants to be like him。“I love my parents' murderer; I suppose I could love anyone。”, and “Father, I am what you made me。 I’ve become your daughter after all。”。 like bruh。 And let’s talk about the walking contradiction that is not Jude or cardan but Madoc。 What the fuck kind of morals does he have to betray the ‘fae king’ for the power。 This is the same idiot who preached the value of honour to be so high and holy。 The same war obsessed maniac who ‘dips his knees in the blood of his enemies’。 Was he also on drugs when he thought to overrule the kingdom to put a kid, a literal 7–8-year-old kid on the throne? What sort of ‘fantasy faerie land’ were they in where a mere human can overtake an entire kingdom with just the help of Cardan who also is one of the cringiest characters I’ve ever read but ill get to that later。 Does this ‘faerie land’ the weakest security in all of the fantasy worlds where this is even remotely imaginable? Madoc was so blinded by the fact that this little kid had some royal blood and just though that the entire faerie control would submit to him, A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD KID!? There is so much more wrong with Madoc and his relation ship with Jude and himself but I am going to move along。What the fuck kind of drugs are people on when they preach and praise Jude as ‘The best protagonist’? She is by far one of the most punchable, unlikeable, narcissistic, horrid, annoying main characters I’ve read ever。 She wants power sole for the sake of it。 Her character is shown to go through so much shit but it doesn’t even reflect in her character development and contributes nothing to her motives for power。 And what politics are people on about when they talk about this book? Her hunger for power and what she does to get it? She has absolutely no real motive to claim all that power in this ‘faerie land’。 A 17-year-old girl beating all the odds and thriving off of power in this Faerie land who these mystical and strong creatures are who look down on humans for no real reason expressed。 She is also so painfully repetitive that if I had to quote every word that came out of her mouth throughout the entire trilogy, it would be:“I hate cardan so much”“I want to become more powerful than everyone in this stupid faerie land and make them kneel down to me and kiss my feet。”“I want power”“I want Cardan and I hate myself for it”“I love the man who killed my parents and I want to be like him”Do you really believe that this mere mortal with absolutely no place in this faerie land or any more relevance than a mosquito has a place there as a protagonist? A protagonist who along the side of the man she apparently hated most being the faerie king was able to defeat all the odds。 There is no place for realism in fantasy and I truly believe that but throwing logic and statistics right out the window is absolutely everything you should not do。 Now let me present some real quotes out of this god-forsaken book which further prove my point。“I am going to keep on defying you。 I am going to shame you with my defiance。 You remind me that I am a mere mortal, and you are a prince of Faerie。 Well, let me remind you that means you have much to lose, and I have nothing。 You may win in the end, you may ensorcell me and hurt me and humiliate me, but I will make sure you lose everything I can take from you on the way down。 I promise you this is the least of what I can do。” - Jude"But I will make them regret crossing me。" - Jude page 108"No one stops me。 I am vulnerable enough; I will keep what dignity I can。" - Jude page 195Dignity? Dumb bitch you need psychiatrist。 Go back to the human world"I have tried to be better than them, and I have failed。" - Jude page 197"Instead of being afraid, I could become something to fear。" - Jude page 197For fucks sake *sighs* and then what? What is the reason?"If I cannot be better than them, I will become so much worse。" - Jude page 210My god do you have anything else going on up there in you"Maybe my messed-up life turned me into someone capable of doing messed-up things。" - Jude page 216Maybe your messed-up life could’ve actually had a role in you doing messed up things。"But we all want stupid things。 That doesn't mean we should have them。" - Jude page 219Just like you shouldn’t have the main role in this shitty fantasy book"If you hurt me。 I wouldn't cry。 I would hurt you back。"Okey, you do that love。“No matter how careful I am, eventually I’ll make another misstep。 I am weak。 I am fragile。 I am mortal。” -JudeYeah, you should’ve been dead by now。 Why are you still here? Oh wait, you’re the protagonist, I almost forgot because I wanted to scoop your eyes out and boil them in bleach。“What they don’t realize is this: Yes, they frighten me, but I have always been scared, since the day I got here。 I was raised by the man who murdered my parents, reared in a land of monsters。 I live with that fear, let it settle into my bones, and ignore it。 If I didn’t pretend not to be scared, I would hide under my owl-down coverlets in Madoc’s estate forever。 I would lie there and scream until there was nothing left of me。 I refuse to do that。 I will not do that。”-JudeGod how I wish you did。 The story would’ve been a lot shorter and a whole lot more bearable。Cardan now is one of the worst cases of love interests with absolutely no defining qualities。 To start off, he was abusive and straight-out humiliated Jude also with the rest of his friends or class whatever they were。 For god’s sake they drugged her and got her half naked, and Cardan ordered her to kiss his feet。 Oh my god how could I forget Locke。 He ‘saves her’ from that scene before she could reach cardans feet and goes on to make her feel ‘loved’。 The kicker is, he is set to marry her twin sister which both him and the twin know, despite that being the case, he still pursues a relationship with her。 What the flying fuck for!? Anyways, Cardan being the most bitter person towards her is soon ‘justified’ by his oh-so-shitty life。 Also, side note, why does Cardan have a tail, what is the point of it? Comedic relief? Literally, the reason that changed Jude’s perspective on him and made her go soft for him was when she hid in Balekin, Cardan’s brothers house, and watched him get beat to a pulp by his older brother for refusing to kill a human servant (p。 117)。 Like bro, the bar is so far beneath the floor an ant should be able to meet her standards。 Oh, you have been abused and suffer from daddy issues, that definitely explains the severe extent of bullying and humiliation I endured at your hands。 I will now proceed to open my heart and legs for you。And let's talk about how stupid Cardan actually is。 This guy was a walking red flag that everybody seemed to go blind for。 he literally bullied and watched his friends humiliate her。 if he liked her in the slightest or had the brain of an ant he would have intervened。 Also, can someone please explain this to me? he says, and I quote"All I want to do is nice things that make you happy。 sure, I’ll make whatever bargain you want, so long as you kiss me again。 go ahead and run, I definitely won't shoot you in the back。" I have read and deconstructed poems by Shakespeare and understood them so believe me when I say reading that paragraph over and over had brain plasma leaking out my ears。 This stupid boy was all bark and no bite。 And he also at one point says "she's clearly shocked by my behaviour" as she should be you mentally deficient fuck。 He is all bark and no bite。 A total fucking pussy when it came down to it。Also, I don’t know why I didn’t think to mention this earlier, but the pacing of the book was so off。 Nothing happened for the majority of the beginning of the book and then suddenly there was this big explosion of shitty events all in one go overlapping so horribly。 Also, when these braindead pieces of shit say, "Everyone who hated it only hated it because they were going in expecting an enemy to lovers romance and with, they got was this morally grey amazingly written protagonist instead" Like what in the fuckity flying human shit。 No。 We hate that book because it is the epitome of Stupid。 But what the fuck was the romance anyway? he basically bullied her so brutally and then she kisses him one day and says, 'out of my way it's my turn to rule now'。 And there was absolutely no angst there。 It was not a slow burn。 Simply two idiots who have seemingly been programmed to take on the roles of the worst protagonists in the fantasy realm。 Like holy fucking shit。I read this book three years ago and I still seethe when I talk about it。 I truly don’t understand how this has a cult following。 I doubted myself and thought maybe just maybe I read a different book or a parody version because there is no way the publishing company would actually waste valuable paper for this。 But boy was I wrong。 If I am to go into a friendship or relationship, this would be the test。 Their reaction to this book would determine everything。 I would also like to say this is no hate towards holly black but towards the die-hard fandom which follow these books。 Love, Aestrin 。。。more

I must say they were better than I thought, the plot and everything else had me hook from the start until the end。 They may not be the best books ever written, but they are for sure good and will help you go back into reading if you were stuck like me。 I also recommend if you are a beginner into fantasy and want to start with something that will help you get into it or introduce。

This is the best series I’ve read in a long time。 Holly Black knew exactly how to develop these characters and redeem them (or not redeem them) properly。 And I simply can’t get over the world building。 The rules and magic systems and settings all make for a thrilling fairyland escape。
