Mogumo's little sister, Sakura, has paid Café Question a totally unexpected visit! Just what is she doing there? And why is Mogumo so unhappy to see her?
This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I absolutely loved this volume! The point where Mogumo's sister came and you get how their family life was。。。heartbreaking, but I think it sets up hopefully a good ending in the last volume for their relationship to get better。 I love how this manga has done a good job in showing a variety of family styles as well。 Because there will be times where you have to deal with no accepting family like Mogumo and Sakura's。 I absolutely loved this volume! Peregrin,
This volume is pretty divided among readers but I think this volume is just as good as the last, albeit with a few flaws。Art: I feel like the art is more detailed。 it doesn’t get to be as cutesy because of the volumes tone though。 Character: The volumes very Mogumo focused。 The rest of the maid cafe staff gets kinda pushed to the side。 They’re very interesting characters but barely got any screentime here。 I had a problem with that but I did appreciate giving Mogumo more depth。Story: The story t This volume is pretty divided among readers but I think this volume is just as good as the last, albeit with a few flaws。Art: I feel like the art is more detailed。 it doesn’t get to be as cutesy because of the volumes tone though。 Character: The volumes very Mogumo focused。 The rest of the maid cafe staff gets kinda pushed to the side。 They’re very interesting characters but barely got any screentime here。 I had a problem with that but I did appreciate giving Mogumo more depth。Story: The story takes a very dark turn in this, opposed to the cute slice of life。 I do think this had to happen at one point, as Mogumos story wasn’t brought up enough。 While the drama was a little much it never stopped me from reading。 I like that the story’s not just cute, there’s depth。I wish there was a better balance between Mogumo’s arc and the maid cafe SOL。 But still I love this series and sad to see it go in volume 5。 。。。more
Jenny,
I don't want to say too much because I'm afraid anything that comes out of this review could be a spoiler and I do NOT want that, but the best I can say is this series continues to balance cutesy moe sweetness with heartbreaking drama and hard-hitting emotional moments。 This series doesn't hold back in showing what the LGBTQA+ community go through, the hardships they suffer, and the frightening outcomes to said hardships。Next volume is the last one, I'm scared to see how it ends, but still looki I don't want to say too much because I'm afraid anything that comes out of this review could be a spoiler and I do NOT want that, but the best I can say is this series continues to balance cutesy moe sweetness with heartbreaking drama and hard-hitting emotional moments。 This series doesn't hold back in showing what the LGBTQA+ community go through, the hardships they suffer, and the frightening outcomes to said hardships。Next volume is the last one, I'm scared to see how it ends, but still looking forward to it。 。。。more

This series never gets old
Zian B。,
This was a volume that packed in a lot of heavy topics in the last 2 or 3 chapters。 I didn’t like that since there wasn’t a lot of breathing room and it generally felt overwhelming to read。 With the dramatic cliffhanger I’m very worried for what could happen in the next volume, especially since it’s the last volume in this series。

Mark,
Mogumo has overcome a lot to get to a place where they’re happy, but just how much becomes clear with the appearance of their sister, Sakura。 Turns out that there’s a lot of family drama in the mix here and more content warnings than you can shake a stick at。Yep, batten down the hatches, folks, we’ve got abuse, suicidal ideation, implied eating disorders, and major depression all present and accounted for this volume and it’s going to get particularly rough。Largely because this volume slops on t Mogumo has overcome a lot to get to a place where they’re happy, but just how much becomes clear with the appearance of their sister, Sakura。 Turns out that there’s a lot of family drama in the mix here and more content warnings than you can shake a stick at。Yep, batten down the hatches, folks, we’ve got abuse, suicidal ideation, implied eating disorders, and major depression all present and accounted for this volume and it’s going to get particularly rough。Largely because this volume slops on the drama with wild abandon until it’s overflowing off the page。 Mogumo’s entire family is an absolute disaster and I think the mangaka takes a wild swing with this that doesn’t pay off。 It’s unconscionably grim。At least Sakura herself doesn’t follow the exact path that I was expecting。 Minus her miserable disrespect for pronouns, she seems to genuinely love her sibling, but she hates the situation that they’ve caused。 It’s not an unreasonable position to find her in。Which is about the only time I’ll get to use ‘not unreasonable’ in this review。 Mogumo’s family turns out to be so utterly messed up that it starts to push past melodrama and clear into pantomime for me。 It’s just too much, too fast。You’ve got awful dad, who is a binary gender guy who won’t even let his daughter play soccer, Sakura, who appears to be holding the house together while maintaining an eating disorder, and mom, who’s a complete picture of depression after Mogumo left after an incident that is… pretty bad, y’know。I’m not saying that all this couldn’t work, but it isn’t given the time to breathe that a scenario like this requires。 It’s mashed together so tightly in its exposition that it lacks the space required to give it some weight。 This is a seriously troubled family that needs to be unpacked rather than dumped on us, rapid-fire。And with the final volume coming up it’s likely not to get that breathing space and instead comes off as way, way too much。 Compare that to Kotone’s coming out, which was played out over multiple volumes。 This just seems highly unrealistic。Yes, I am aware of the irony of calling out the reality of a book where non-binary, transgendered, and cross-dressing people can just suddenly look like cute girls if they so choose, but I do think the tone is important (and at least that’s a positive use of unreality)。I could unpack this dire family scenario for a long, long time, but it doesn’t really resonate for me; it just turns into a dogpile of awful and some of the most shocking and dumb knife use I’ve ever seen。 I won’t even touch how ridiculous that cliffhanger is。It’s basically everything I didn’t want this series to turn into。 Before it had both high drama and fun in a reasonable balance, but it really went for something and didn’t come near it this time out。 I also don’t necessarily like the way it frames Mogumo’s discovery of their non-binary nature either。Even worse, the fun stuff remains really fun。 Tetsu and Mogumo are such a great couple and their bashful embarrassment around one another is so charming (ugh, the supper date is so great)。 When the staff go out fabric shopping it’s really neat seeing them all off the clock enjoying one another’s company。 There were a lot of good stories left in this narrative and I’m not thrilled to see we’re heading into ‘fix the family’ as a likely endpoint instead。3 stars - when it is good, it is great, but much as I have a ton of fondness for this series, there’s waaaaay too much ‘too much’ in this one for me。 This series has never been subtle, I’m quite aware, but it’s handled touchy topics a lot more deftly to this point。 。。。more
