Summary

Ideas are the currency of the twenty-first century。 In order to succeed, you need to be able to sell your ideas persuasively。 This ability is the single greatest skill that will help you accomplish your dreams。 Many people have a fear of public speaking or are insecure about their ability to give a successful presentation。 Now public speaking coach and bestselling author Carmine Gallo explores what makes a great presentation by examining the widely acclaimed TED Talks, which have redefined the elements of a successful presentation and become the gold standard for public speaking。 TED ? which stands for technology, entertainment, and design ? brings together the world's leading thinkers。 These are the presentations that set the world on fire, and the techniques that top TED speakers use will make any presentation more dynamic, fire up any team, and give anyone the confidence to overcome their fear of public speaking。

In his book, Carmine Gallo has broken down hundreds of TED talks and interviewed the most popular TED presenters, as well as the top researchers in the fields of psychology, communications, and neuroscience to reveal the nine secrets of all successful TED presentations。 Gallo's step-by-step method makes it possible for anyone to deliver a presentation that is engaging, persuasive, and memorable。

Carmine Gallo's top 10 Wall Street Journal Bestseller Talk Like TED will give anyone who is insecure about their public speaking abilities the tools to communicate the ideas that matter most to them, the skill to win over hearts and minds, and the confidence to deliver the talk of their lives。

A well written book about public speaking and about giving Ted-Talk level presentations。 Many tips shared by the author are common sense。 Nevertheless, it illustrates the important points beautifully and I think it is worth reading (or listening to the audio book 😅)

I have a ton of self-help books that I need to get off my shelves, so I decided to skim-read them。 This is the first。The points on how to be a better public speaker is the same stuff you have been told before。 Gestures, Passion, Punctuation etc。 This book could be better turned into a video。 Perhaps a Ted talk on Ted talking? I'm gonna guess that already exists。Also, some of the points are saying to practice in front of an audience, but the whole reason people buy this book is to be better in fr I have a ton of self-help books that I need to get off my shelves, so I decided to skim-read them。 This is the first。The points on how to be a better public speaker is the same stuff you have been told before。 Gestures, Passion, Punctuation etc。 This book could be better turned into a video。 Perhaps a Ted talk on Ted talking? Provides a good understanding of what made good Ted tasks and how you can do the same。 Mostly talks in terms of growth mindset, but a few thoughts the writer discussed in the realm of passion felt like fixed mindset thinking, which gave me some pause and left a less than savory taste in my mental mouth。

This is a helpful book for anybody who ever presents anything in front of a group--so, everybody。 I am familiar with a lot of the research backing up the tips。 Honestly, many would call this book a no-brainer。 When you present, don't be boring, duh! But sometimes we don't know when we're being boring。 Sometimes it's hard to know if you'll connect with your audience or not。 Sometimes you need to give this book a quick listen for inspiration。 This is a helpful book for anybody who ever presents anything in front of a group--so, everybody。 I am familiar with a lot of the research backing up the tips。 Honestly, many would call this book a no-brainer。 When you present, don't be boring, duh! Surprisingly informative for a book of its type。A light read。 Finished it in a day。

I'll be honest with you, this could have been a best seller too if it used the tips it gave。 Awfully dragging on its points, and just didn't live up to my expectations。 Better off with another puplic speaking book I'll be honest with you, this could have been a best seller too if it used the tips it gave。 Awfully dragging on its points, and just didn't live up to my expectations。 Better off with another puplic speaking book 。。。more

For all the author's constantly reminding us that he's a journalist and a communication coach, I found this book to be rather poorly written。 Reusing the same words and phrases in adjacent paragraphs is distracting, as is misusing idioms。 And despite including a note to avoid using clichés, this book is full of them。 Once you get past all that, then, the advice itself is unoriginal, sometimes conflicting, and presented in exactly the opposite of the way the author advises to give a presentation。 For all the author's constantly reminding us that he's a journalist and a communication coach, I found this book to be rather poorly written。 Reusing the same words and phrases in adjacent paragraphs is distracting, as is misusing idioms。 And despite including a note to avoid using clichés, this book is full of them。 Once you get past all that, then, the advice itself is unoriginal, sometimes conflicting, and presented in exactly the opposite of the way the author advises to give a presentation。 。。。more

There are no secrets to discover from this book so please don't waste your time and money。 It's filled with mundane advice that you can find on any half-decent blogs today。 There are no secrets to discover from this book so please don't waste your time and money。 It's filled with mundane advice that you can find on any half-decent blogs today。 。。。more

I accidentally read The Storyteller's Secret: How the World's Most Inspiring Leaders Turn Their Passion Into Performance by Carmine Gallo before this first book, but it doesn't really matter which order they are read in。 Both books are enjoyable and useful。 I accidentally read The Storyteller's Secret: How the World's Most Inspiring Leaders Turn Their Passion Into Performance by Carmine Gallo before this first book, but it doesn't really matter which order they are read in。 Both books are enjoyable and useful。 。。。more

Got better understanding of the concepts, most of which I was already applying, but now I do it in a much efficient and better way!

3。5 rounded up to 4。 By no means is this filled with bad advice, I just didn’t find it particularly compelling or full of original advice on public speaking。 The stories and anecdotes were interesting and illustrated the points well。

A good, solid read。 The 9 "secrets" were well explored。 A lot of it was content I have read before or heard from others but the examples were helpful and in general I think if I apply the tips in this book, I will become a more powerful speaker。 A good, solid read。 The 9 "secrets" were well explored。 A lot of it was content I have read before or heard from others but the examples were helpful and in general I think if I apply the tips in this book, I will become a more powerful speaker。 。。。more

Eye-opening。 I believed (or wanted to believe) great speakers had innate talent。 But great speeches are the fruit of long hours of practice, years of expertise in the field, and the void of personal gain from the speech。 Devil is in the details。 Great speakers often share their secrets however many people blindly follow their tips and lose their audience or without having a good enough talent to execute some public speaking skills backfires。

The 9 main points Carmine Gallo included and based the book around are pretty obvious and you could have possibly guessed a lot of the scientific facts behind those points using common sense。 The advice was goos, just not unique as you could read them in just about any other public speaking book/site。 The 9 points are: Be passionate, learn how to tell stories, converse with the audience, teach the audience something new, surprise them, be funny, stay within an 18 minute range, include pictures a The 9 main points Carmine Gallo included and based the book around are pretty obvious and you could have possibly guessed a lot of the scientific facts behind those points using common sense。 The advice was goos, just not unique as you could read them in just about any other public speaking book/site。 The 9 points are: Be passionate, learn how to tell stories, converse with the audience, teach the audience something new, surprise them, be funny, stay within an 18 minute range, include pictures and be authentic。This book did contain many stories and examples of past TED talks and although I admit to scanning through a lot of them, I did like some of the ones he included (such as the talk Steve Jobs did where he released a bunch of mosquitos)。 。。。more

I highly recommend another book instead:„Ted - the official ted guide to public speaking“- from Chris AndersonThis one feels superficial, when comparing both。

Buen inicioLeer este libro me conecto con algo que siempre he querido mejorar, y es mis presentaciones。 De niño lo hacía muy bien pero perdí la confección。 Este libro me ha abierto las puertas de nuevo。

I found this book to be poorly edited and rather monotonous。 The author loses credibility by neglecting to provide a source to the many “research has showed” talking points。 Nonetheless, some valuable insights are shared within these points, such as his emphasis on passion and the importance of establishing a connection with your audience。

Very good book with tons of great stories surrounding the strongest speakers to hit the TED stage ! I was thinking it was going to be more of a technical guide, but it was more so a motivational type guide, to help you get up on stage and do talks like the TED speakers。 It was a good read, just not as technical as I hoped to to be! I still enjoyed it and found it useful !

Erin

Listened to the audiobook: great tips。 I put them into practice when presenting in a corporate town hall and received positive feedback from many attendees。

3。5 - 4。 Some solid tips for longer presentations。 Not much new or secret but nicely packaged together。

Wow, riktigt bra bok, bra struktur, bra upplägg, bra fakta, bra och roliga utvalda TEDsters。 Inget att klaga på。

I found the 1st part of the book not useful at all and was getting ready to give up on it (felt like a long sells pitch) but then it got better。 By the end I was glad I'd stuck it out and finished the book。 I found the 1st part of the book not useful at all and was getting ready to give up on it (felt like a long sells pitch) but then it got better。 By the end I was glad I'd stuck it out and finished the book。 。。。more
