Summary

I liked it because there was a big story to it and there was a lot of wars。

The book is actually fantastic。

What a fun adventure! Read it to/with Nolan and there were plenty of fun voices to do。 You’ll have to check out his review to find out what he thought。

This is my 6th or 7th read, it’s still a fun read! Felt the urge to read aloud to myself or others that’s how much fun I was having!

Maya

Honestly I’m a bit underwhelmed。 It was alright I guess, but I just wasn’t invested in the characters。

Peter Croucher

Second time lucky! Tried to read this a few years ago and didn’t stick。 I enjoyed it as a story, but felt it was missing the “epicness” of either the movies or what the Tolkien world has evolved into。 Really enjoyed Bilbo’s journey as a character, much more than the actual journey itself。 Hoping I’ll like LOTR better as it’ll be more adultish。

8/10

Morgan Rowe

Whimsical。 Funny。 Fun。

Kristianna

Andy Serkis is amazing! His voice for the elvenking (Thranduil) sounds kind of like Professor Snape 😂

Always a pleasure to read these Tolkien books。This was funny and even "interactive" where the narrator includes the reader at certain times (I think of the riddles with Gollum, and of the scene with the dragon) This is something I liked :)The hobbits are really fun as creatures, with them having multiple breakfasts and suppers, and their merry nature, and their coming of age at 30 。。 I like these hobbities 。。Bilbo is honestly a great character。 I think that LOTR didn't do him justice, especially Always a pleasure to read these Tolkien books。This was funny and even "interactive" where the narrator includes the reader at certain times (I think of the riddles with Gollum, and of the scene with the dragon) This is something I liked :)The hobbits are really fun as creatures, with them having multiple breakfasts and suppers, and their merry nature, and their coming of age at 30 。。 I like these hobbities 。。Bilbo is honestly a great character。 I think that LOTR didn't do him justice, especially towards the end of the book(s) 。。 I mean his birthday party was something but he we didn't really feel his sens of adventure and we didn't get to witness his talents。。 I am so happy I got to read the hobbit ( I had doubts)I still find Tolkien's writings unnecessary heavy, I believe the "ambiant" writing style changed, and I prefer lighter quicker reads。 Thus the 4 stars。 。。。more

I really, really wanted to like The Hobbit。 I had tried reading it in high school and failed like a physics pop quiz。 I had hoped that age would change my opinion as I love Lord of the Rings。 Unfortunately, that was not the case。 There were too many songs -- Bilbo is a long-winded character。 Keeping track of the dwarves in the party ie Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Gloin was more difficult than remembering the names of Snow White's seven dwarves。 In my opinion, the only reason to read The Hobbit is to re I really, really wanted to like The Hobbit。 I had tried reading it in high school and failed like a physics pop quiz。 I had hoped that age would change my opinion as I love Lord of the Rings。 Unfortunately, that was not the case。 There were too many songs -- Bilbo is a long-winded character。 Keeping track of the dwarves in the party ie Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Gloin was more difficult than remembering the names of Snow White's seven dwarves。 In my opinion, the only reason to read The Hobbit is to read "Riddles in the Dark" the chapter featuring Gollum。 This chapter could be viewed as a short story, its own entity。 It sufficed my need for Bilbo's back story。 I will say, that like in Lord of the Rings, Tolkien is a master at world-building。 No one can deny him that。 However, I think I will stick to the trilogy and let this prequel take a very long holiday。This review was originally posted on First Impressions Reviews 。。。more

I loved The Hobbit。 I believe among all the Tolkien's books, his world felt prominently heartfelt in The Hobbit, or There and Back Again。 I loved The Hobbit。 I believe among all the Tolkien's books, his world felt prominently heartfelt in The Hobbit, or There and Back Again。 。。。more

Very fun read。 Perfect for a weekend read。 Gosh did I love this book

Peyton

This is a quick read compared to Tolkien’s other works。 It’s a action packed and well-written。 Perfect for young readers looking to dive into more detail-oriented storytelling such as the lord of the rings trilogy。

Neil Haller

I read it in high school。 Liked it better than Lord of the Rings。

Melanna

I don’t love fantasy so hence this is a star lower。 The writing of course is fantastic。 I have no idea how they stretched this story into a 3 part movie。 😂 this is the right length。 I don’t even know what else to say。。。 it’s Tolkien。 🤷🏻‍♀️

AldanaCom

Abigail Autumn

A great story with a magnificent world of magic, creature, and wonder。 If you do plan on reading this, the story is written with old language and writing, so a bit more difficult than the books written today。
