Summary

4。5 rounded up。This was such a fresh story for me, I really enjoyed it。 Absolutely love the undercurrent of the Glitz and Glam of old Hollywood。Only bit that fell short for me was the original narrator's story。 In the midst of Evelyn's life story, I didn't really care about this journalist we barely hear from。 4。5 rounded up。This was such a fresh story for me, I really enjoyed it。 Absolutely love the undercurrent of the Glitz and Glam of old Hollywood。Only bit that fell short for me was the original narrator's story。 In the midst of Evelyn's life story, I didn't really care about this journalist we barely hear from。 。。。more

Oh my goodness, what a story。 This book really takes you on the rollercoaster of emotions that match those of the story of Evelyn’s life - it feels so real and raw。

I had some trouble getting into the book but as soon as Evelyn started talking about her husbands I couldn’t stop reading。 I loved the plot twist in the end and the beauty of tragedy the witer uses to portray the loneliness of living a famous life。

I really enjoyed reading this book。 It definitely made me think about the private lives of celebrities。 How many or their marriages are because they are truly in love, and how many are solely to gain publicity and popularity。

An engrossing, quick read with a few well-placed life encouragements hidden in the tropes。

I don’t even know what to say。 How to even preface this book before I start reviewing it。 It wasn’t a bad story, but I feel like it was missing something。 But the three stars is not a bad review, it’s just that normally this is not the genre I read and it felt a little flat for me。 In this book, we get the life of Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo narrated by the journalist Monique who works for a prestigious magazine。 Evelyn Hugo never gave an exclusive interview to anyone throughout her career, so Mo I don’t even know what to say。 How to even preface this book before I start reviewing it。 It wasn’t a bad story, but I feel like it was missing something。 But the three stars is not a bad review, it’s just that normally this is not the genre I read and it felt a little flat for me。 In this book, we get the life of Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo narrated by the journalist Monique who works for a prestigious magazine。 Evelyn Hugo never gave an exclusive interview to anyone throughout her career, so Monique has no choice but to accept because this could be huge for her career。 Evelyn and she sit down and talk about Evelyn’s life as Monique takes notes and listens。 But little did she know that meeting Evelyn would change her life forever。 You see, it wasn’t a mere coincidence that Evelyn chooses Monique to write her autobiography, but I guess if you want to find out, you have to read the book。Now, I want to mention that the way this story was written is beautiful。 The author has a unique way of bringing you into the story in ways no other author has made me。 The story is captivating and unique。 It exposes the true world of Hollywood as it really is。 It makes you wonder if your favorite celebrities and their marriages are similar to Evelyn in a sense, even though these are different times。 I’m sure you’ve seen spoilers by now that this is an f/f romance and I think is detrimental to the history of the book, but I’m not sure I would want to explain it because it feels like I would be giving the book away。 So, instead, I won’t mention anything about it even though that’s the biggest part of the story。 If you read the book, you’ll find out why I choose not to mention the topic。 What I will mention though is the way this story is written。 I cannot get over how good this story executed。 It honestly made me believe that Evelyn Hugo was a real actress and that she was writing her autobiography and not a fictional story。 Taylor Jenkins makes you hurt for Evelyn, makes you hate her, makes you question her motives at all turns but all in all, she makes you understand Evelyn。 I don’t think that the author’s purpose was to make us love or hate actress Evelyn Hugo, I think she wanted us to understand her。 But it’s impossible not to feel sympathetic over Evelyn’s trials and attributions, regardless of what Evelyn mentions in her book。 I completely understand why people love this book so much, if my mind wasn’t so filled with impossible ideas of love, I know I would’ve enjoyed this story ten times more。 It’s a wonderful story full of surprises and turns and everything else you’re not expecting。 I know what most of you that will read it, will enjoy it。 I highly recommend it if you need a heartfelt story about a woman in Hollywood。 This book is meant for adults but sixteen-year-olds and older can read it too with no problem。 I once again thank you for reading my post, I truly appreciate it。 Until the next one。 。。。more

I was sceptical at first。 This novel has very good ratings, but I found the beginning not at all compelling。 Written in first person, and from the POV of talented but under-appreciated and slightly self-conscious journalist, who’s about to get her big chance? Oh, how unoriginal。 But please, if you have similar thoughts just stick through the first few pages until we meet Evelyn and she’ll begin her story。 It’s worth it。 The story is as beautiful, heartbreaking, nuanced as life can be (although i I was sceptical at first。 This novel has very good ratings, but I found the beginning not at all compelling。 Written in first person, and from the POV of talented but under-appreciated and slightly self-conscious journalist, who’s about to get her big chance? I don't even know where to start。 I just finished and I'm speechless。 I bought this book before my midterms, thinking that I could wait until I finished my exams to read it, or that I could read it while studying and it wouldn't be a big deal。 Wrong。 I was wrong。 For me, the book was beautiful in the most destructive way possible。 The narration is like someone (Evelyn) is telling you a story that has already happened, that no matter what you do there's nothing you can do to change it。 Maybe that I don't even know where to start。 I just finished and I'm speechless。 I bought this book before my midterms, thinking that I could wait until I finished my exams to read it, or that I could read it while studying and it wouldn't be a big deal。 Wrong。 I was wrong。 For me, the book was beautiful in the most destructive way possible。 The narration is like someone (Evelyn) is telling you a story that has already happened, that no matter what you do there's nothing you can do to change it。 Maybe that's why itwas painful for me to finish it。Realistic fiction has never been my go-to, I much prefered fantasy or YA。 But this book。 Devastating。 (I know I'm not making sense but I'm still trying to process everything) 。。。more

4。75/5 (Rounded up)Wow。To be honest, I don't even know what to say。 I've never read a book that elicited such different emotions from me。 I was conflicted, vexed, intrigued, tearful。。。 I like how honest this book is。 (Ironic because of the subject matter, but hear me out!) People often read because they don't want to face reality。 This book serves you reality, but in a way that isn't depressing。 No matter how much we think we know someone, we will never know the full scope of everything。 We'll n 4。75/5 (Rounded up)Wow。To be honest, I don't even know what to say。 I've never read a book that elicited such different emotions from me。 I was conflicted, vexed, intrigued, tearful。。。 I like how honest this book is。 (Ironic because of the subject matter, but hear me out!)
