I have read a few of this author’s updates of classic fairytales and I think this was my favorite! I love the addition of the strong female “outlaw”/heroine。 (Although I was tempted to say sidekick, I think the author’s point is that she isn’t just a sidekick!) I also like that Rapunzel isn’t just a damsel in distress。 She is a strong, modern young woman, who is empowered, despite her circumstances。 What I didn’t like - at all - was the frame story。 It was mostly unnecessary and I felt like it w I have read a few of this author’s updates of classic fairytales and I think this was my favorite! Thank you so much to Disney Hyperion and NetGalley for sending an arc of this my way! This was such an interesting take on tangled and I adored it so much and adding Elizabeth Bathory in to a fairytale was something I didn’t know I needed。

As a huge fan of the twisted tales series, I have read I believe all but 2。 This one was tough to rate。 I had to go back and compare my previous ratings to the other books。 This one, in my opinion was slightly more lackluster than say, "So this is Love" which to me was a solid 5。 Conceal don't feel a 4。 So comparing how I felt about the others, this one just didn't measure up unfortunately。 I love Rapunzel so I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy it。 I just didn't love it。 The differences in the actual As a huge fan of the twisted tales series, I have read I believe all but 2。 This one was tough to rate。 I had to go back and compare my previous ratings to the other books。 This one, in my opinion was slightly more lackluster than say, "So this is Love" which to me was a solid 5。 Conceal don't feel a 4。 So comparing how I felt about the others, this one just didn't measure up unfortunately。 I love Rapunzel so I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy it。 I just didn't love it。 The differences in the actual story compared to the book didn't bother me as others have stated。 That's the entire point of the series。 The darker approach was fun but I felt that it caused a devoid of the simple magic that this realm of story telling embarks。 That princess vs villian classic magic that leaves you feeling like a kid again。 Solid 3 stars。 Not a major hit nor a complete miss。 Pascal would surely nod of slight approval。 。。。more

In a world where the flower picked to save Rapunzel's mom was the wrong one, we find our long-haired heroine with the power to kill instead of the power to heal。This twist on this story was super fun。 I really liked the addition of Gina and felt like Flynn was actually more likeable in this book than in the movie。 It has all the same intrigue and excitement as the movie, maybe even a little more。 My only complaint is the ending was rushed (this is a 500 page book, cut something out don't skimp o In a world where the flower picked to save Rapunzel's mom was the wrong one, we find our long-haired heroine with the power to kill instead of the power to heal。This twist on this story was super fun。 I really liked the addition of Gina and felt like Flynn was actually more likeable in this book than in the movie。 It has all the same intrigue and excitement as the movie, maybe even a little more。 My only complaint is the ending was rushed (this is a 500 page book, cut something out don't skimp on the ending) and we don't really get closure on Mother Gothel。 Bummer。 Other than that it was great fun and they even snuck a little history in there。 。。。more

This is probably my favorite of the Twisted Tales so far。 I really really enjoyed this story and the idea of a different kind of flower and what would happen if that were the case。 I also loved the premise of the brother telling his sister the story because Tangled is her favorite and she needs a distraction from illness。 I also loved the addition of Gina to the story。 Really really loved this one。 Will likely look at a copy of it for my keeper shelf。 I think this will be a reread for me!

I have a few books from this series on my kindle but hadn’t gotten around to reading them。 I’m so glad this was my first one。 The story was close enough to Tangled that I could envision the characters I love so much yet it was different enough to capture my attention。 The story is fun and adventurous and gives a new angle to the story。 The characters were amazing and I really enjoyed them all, even nasty Gothel。 I think my favourite part of the book though was the author’s notes where she shares I have a few books from this series on my kindle but hadn’t gotten around to reading them。 I’m so glad this was my first one。 The story was close enough to Tangled that I could envision the characters I love so much yet it was different enough to capture my attention。 The story is fun and adventurous and gives a new angle to the story。 The characters were amazing and I really enjoyed them all, even nasty Gothel。 I think my favourite part of the book though was the author’s notes where she shares her inspiration for part of the story。 It was a powerful story of survival and how much hair can change an outlook。I bought a few more of these books to add to my collection & I can’t wait to read them。Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book。 。。。more

Thank you to NetGalley and Disney Publishing for an E-ARC of this novel。 This in no way alters my thoughts and my opinions remain my own。 This was a really cool take on Tangled。 I felt like this story went a bit more in depth about the power of loyalty and how kindness can earn that level of loyalty。 The beginning of this novel was a bit slow for me。 I had a really hard time getting into it at first and it took me way longer than it should have to finish it。 However the last third really made up Thank you to NetGalley and Disney Publishing for an E-ARC of this novel。 This in no way alters my thoughts and my opinions remain my own。 This was a really cool take on Tangled。 I felt like this story went a bit more in depth about the power of loyalty and how kindness can earn that level of loyalty。 The beginning of this novel was a bit slow for me。 I had a really hard time getting into it at first and it took me way longer than it should have to finish it。 However the last third really made up for it。 Rapunzel's relationship with Flynn developed in a sweeter way than in the movie, and it felt deeper。 The friendships in here were fantastic and wholesome。 Overall, once I got past the slow bit in the front I really enjoyed this。 I would pick up another "Twisted Tale" in a heartbeat。 。。。more

This was a great read that went quickly in the beginning and I could not wait to complete it。 I was worried about the direction it would take since Tangled is one of my all time favorite movies。 Needless to say, I was satisfied with this story!

I wasn't really sure how this story could be remade, but this was beyond my wildest imagination。 As a result, this held my attention from start to finish。 In fact, I read this book in one sitting。 We follow the story of Rapunzel; however, instead of her healing golden hair, she has silvery hair with the power of death。。。 or so she's been told。 Gothel still plays a prominent role of a liar in this book, and it's refreshing that her conniving, manipulative ways did not change in the story。 Further I wasn't really sure how this story could be remade, but this was beyond my wildest imagination。 As a result, this held my attention from start to finish。 In fact, I read this book in one sitting。 We follow the story of Rapunzel; however, instead of her healing golden hair, she has silvery hair with the power of death。。。 or so she's been told。 Gothel still plays a prominent role of a liar in this book, and it's refreshing that her conniving, manipulative ways did not change in the story。 Furthermore, we get to meet Gina and her witty banter with Flynn Rider。 All of the elements of the original "Tangled" storyline are present with new characters, such as Countess Bathory, Treggsby, and the men from the Snuggly Duckling。The story moves quickly, as there is a lot of action within the book。 There are enough twists and turns to differentiate from the original story and maintain the reader's attention。 Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the book。 。。。more

A generous 4 stars for originality and genuine comedy, with some actual important concepts thrown in about how complicated love can beI was hoping for a straight up evil (or at least cynical) Rapunzel slowly learning to trust others - which is not what we get at all。 Rapunzel is still her very naive, hopeful and generous self。 Which is great, but doesn't result in a different journey for the character。 Mostly the people around her act differently, sometimes it makes more sense and sometimes it's A generous 4 stars for originality and genuine comedy, with some actual important concepts thrown in about how complicated love can beI was hoping for a straight up evil (or at least cynical) Rapunzel slowly learning to trust others - which is not what we get at all。 Rapunzel is still her very naive, hopeful and generous self。 Which is great, but doesn't result in a different journey for the character。 Mostly the people around her act differently, sometimes it makes more sense and sometimes it's just a waste of time I liked Rapunzel having to learn about her hair and becoming a witch。 I liked the new character Gina (though I wish it was Cassandra :((( ) and I LOVED all the interactions with Flynn/Eugene。 Watching them fall in love again was just so sweet! It does get very bogged down by the interlude of the brother and sister in the hospital。 I have no idea why this was included?? It's like the author took her own writing notes and shoved them into the story, it was very annoying。 Ultimately the characters save the whole thing, some good ideas and some really bad ideas。 Makes me just want to watch the movie again, but a fine read 。。。more

This is another What IF Disney book I absolutely adored! This book was perfect and spot on for these characters we already know and love so dearly! Tangled was one of my favorite new generation Disney princess movies and this really allowed me to see the characters in a new and enjoyable light! I Would read this one all over again if I could!

A beautiful retelling, full of the same excitement as the disney movie! It was familiar enough to enjoy its similarities, and different enough for the new ideas to keep me compelled to read it。 Had the same disney magic as the film, with a touch of extra darkness to make it more exciting as a novel!Thank you to Netgalley and publishers for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review!

That being said when you make a point to constantly hammer in that this world is a much more realistic version of medieval times by pointing out the horrors of the outside world it sure as hell validates your abusive gaslighting villian。 I mean I guess in this story she tell Rapunzel SHE'S the danger most of the time but she certainly does mention the outside world being a twisted place。2。 LOOK EUGENZEL IS ONE OF THE GREATEST DISNEY MOVIE COUPLES OF ALL! This may be bias but good God the evidence is there too。 What makes them so special isn't just their cute upbeat moments but their sacrifices for each other。 Rapunzel is willing to give up her freedom for Eugene。 And Eugene is willing to DIE so Rapunzel can be free。 And no I don't mean just doing something extremely risky like sneaking into a powerful serial killers fortress with bad injuries but knowing you've got allies on the outside who will hopefully get you and her out。 I mean being about to die from a mortal stab wound and destroying the only means to save yourself so the girl you love can be free。 And while in the book the relationship develops well without the sacrifices there it feels hollow compared to the movie。 Just some nitpicky bits but the whole "we gave our baby away because her hair kills things" seems to not make a lot of sense。 Like why was that the only solution? Why didn't the try to cut her hair? Kinda makes Frederic and Arianna look like jerks。 Also I still don't know what Gothel's big scheme was, just to get rich? Seemed like there was more to it than that。Also the whole thing is wrapped in this modern day shell story that annoyingly takes away from the magic。 Do the other Twisted Tales have these cause I'm not a fan。Overall not the worst, maybe I'm too attached to the original。 I feel they should have at least done Eugenzel some justice。 Maybe a high 2 for me。 。。。more

As much as I’ve loved the twisted tales, this one was a huge let down。 Normally the books start with one of the scenes as you know it and it slowly twists to something else like a Disney multiverse! But this one because the twist had to do with rapunzels mother and which flower she drank from the twist starts right away。 And it just gets more complicated from there。 This one did not have to be as complicated as it was。 Her hair did one thing before, have it do one thing now, not like 100。 It was As much as I’ve loved the twisted tales, this one was a huge let down。 Normally the books start with one of the scenes as you know it and it slowly twists to something else like a Disney multiverse! But this one because the twist had to do with rapunzels mother and which flower she drank from the twist starts right away。 And it just gets more complicated from there。 This one did not have to be as complicated as it was。 Her hair did one thing before, have it do one thing now, not like 100。 It was not well executed at all。 And there was a good 200 pages in the middle that could’ve been cut。 I started skimming towards the end because I just couldn’t do it anymore。Plus there was absolutely No need for the whole princess bride situation of brother reading to his sick sister。 It would’ve been a cute touch if it didn’t seem like it was just an excuse to make the story as ridiculous as you wanted。 (Cause the brother decides to change the story) too on the nose, like it would’ve been better if the book itself was enchanted or something and as he was reading it changed or something。 Cause the back and forth between siblings was literally like, where’s Maximus, where’s pascal, why’d you make her do this and that? So then he would change it。 Like it was a mess。 This is now my 3rd out of the series so far that I haven’t liked。 Thankfully there’s more good ones than bad! In just really wish one of my favorite characters was done better。 Onto the next one! 。。。more

This book absolutely did not need to be over 500 pages long。 A lot of the segments about Rapunzel learning how to use her magic could have been edited out。 Rapunzel and Flynn didn’t seem like themselves, especially Flynn。 He was barely in the story for one, and didn’t do much other than make a couple of quips (that didn’t sound like something he would say)。 Also, I didn’t jive with the writing style。 It got really annoying when Rapunzel would identify an animal but then be totally wrong。 That’s This book absolutely did not need to be over 500 pages long。 A lot of the segments about Rapunzel learning how to use her magic could have been edited out。 Rapunzel and Flynn didn’t seem like themselves, especially Flynn。 He was barely in the story for one, and didn’t do much other than make a couple of quips (that didn’t sound like something he would say)。 Also, I didn’t jive with the writing style。 It got really annoying when Rapunzel would identify an animal but then be totally wrong。 That’s the kind of joke that would work in a movie (where the audience can clearly see that she’s made a mistake) but in a book, if you’re telling me that Rapunzel saw a bear, I’m going to picture a bear in my head - and not a fox, which is what she actually saw。 This happened several times and was kind of irritating。The story was interesting enough, and I believe this was the first of the Twisted Tales to use the “story within a story” trope。 Overall I did like it, but it could have been better。 。。。more

5 STARSI have found Liz Braswell’s writing to be hit or miss, but I must say, this one has to be one of my favorites。 I love Rapunzel, and Braswell makes it a Twisted Tale by making Rapunzel’s mother drink the wrong flower’s power, causing Rapunzel to be born with silver hair that hurts, rather than heal。 I loved the Tangled Series too, so this definitely gave me vibes from that story。 (Seriously, do yourself a favor and watch it on Disney+)

Loved this Twisted Tale!I feel like Braswell was able to go back to her style of the first three books of the series with this one。 Minor changes that make a big difference to the original story。 Added details that only enrich, don’t deter。 Great additional characterization on top of what was done in the movie。And the unique way of tying it to reality! Loved the personal touch。But I have to say…sometimes this can be wordy。 I feel like this book could’ve been 50 pages shorter。
