Having recently read “Snap” and “The Beautiful Dead” and both being five star reads for me, I knew I’d be thoroughly entertained with Belinda Bauer’s latest novel “EXIT”。 - IT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE MURDER 。。。Pensioner Felix Pink is about to find out that it’s never too late, for life to go horribly wrong。 When Felix lets himself in to number three Black Lane, he’s there to perform an act of kindness and charity - to keep a dying man company as he takes his final breath but just fifteen minute Having recently read “Snap” and “The Beautiful Dead” and both being five star reads for me, I knew I’d be thoroughly entertained with Belinda Bauer’s latest novel “EXIT”。 - IT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE MURDER 。。。Pensioner Felix Pink is about to find out that it’s never too late, for life to go horribly wrong。 When Felix lets himself in to number three Black Lane, he’s there to perform an act of kindness and charity - to keep a dying man company as he takes his final breath but just fifteen minutes later, Felix is on the run from the police after making the biggest mistake of his life。Seventy five year old Felix is an ‘Exiteer’, someone who sits with a terminally ill person wishing to end their own life and suffering。 By staying the right side of the law, an Exiteer cannot assist with the actual process of dying but can give assurance to the person’s family, that they weren’t alone when they passed。 However, when Felix and his Exiteer colleague make a life changing mistake, his world is turned upside down in minutes。 At seventy five years old, Felix is a bit of an antihero, lacking the traditional qualities of a hero but wanting justice all the same and has a deep moral conscience。 Still grieving the loss of his wife Margaret and son Jamie, his only companion is his loveable dog Mabel and oddball neighbour Miss Knot。 Along with some really cracking characters like the farcical PC Calvin Bridge, DCI Kirsty King and their vending machine capers, a fight with garden gnomes and some tree climbing antics, there’s some lovely dark comedic moments that softens the bleakness of the subject of euthanasia。 I enjoyed the unique plot immensely, this very talented author has created a fabulous crime thriller that’s weaved with some superb British humour and is a book I shall be keeping to re-read again for definite in the future。 #EXIT - 5 stars 。。。more

Excellent from start to finish。 A tricky subject to base a murder mystery round, but defy done。 Plenty to tug on the heart strings as well as solving the mystery!

I've wanted to read this for ages and had it on my kindle and then it got picked for Clare Macintosh book club so knew I had to read it, the cover drew me in。And then I started it and it just wasn't what I thought it was going to be! I was expecting more of a fast paced crime novel and it was the total opposite。 I didnt connect with Felix or any of the characters and struggled to keep up with who was who!Not much happened and wasn't really any twists, the different POV from Felix and the coppers I've wanted to read this for ages and had it on my kindle and then it got picked for Clare Macintosh book club so knew I had to read it, the cover drew me in。And then I started it and it just wasn't what I thought it was going to be! Most enjoyable Slow start but in the end I felt as though I had to run to catch up。 Lovely to read on a miserable wet and cold Autumn day, which is just what I did。

I’m so glad I saw this with great reviews on Goodreads because I am not sure I would have picked it up on my own。 Delightful and entertaining even with a subject of euthanasia。

A fab whodunnit with a great bunch of characters - laugh out loud funny in places and then filled with quiet subtle understated humour。 Perhaps not the usual gritty crime thriller you're used to from Belinda Bauer but definitely a cracking read ! Loved this book, charming funny and with some fun twists。 Never takes itself too seriously and the characters are as lovable as they are ridiculous。

Well who would have thought it possible to write a humorous book about euthanasia? Belinda Bauer, that’s who!Felix Pink (the best name ever) is a 75 year old man。 He is compassionate and caring, hence he joined the exiteers。 He is joined by a new recruit to hold the hand of a dying man in the final moments of his life。 However, on this occasion something goes dreadfully wrong, and Felix is forced to run home to his beloved dog, Mabel。Felix wants to confess, but he is worried for the new young re Well who would have thought it possible to write a humorous book about euthanasia? Murder most witty and darkA thoroughly enjoyable mystery featuring Felix Pink, a 75-year-old Exiteer, one of a small group of people who assist in suicides。 When Felix realizes that he has assisted the wrong man, a quiet mayhem ensues in which no one escapes his proper measure of guilt and inadequacy。

Well narrated audiobook but just ok story

Really funny。 Starts off extremely serious and then after a few chapters turns into something Tom Sharpe would be proud of。 Lots of interesting characters, some hilarious scenes and a great story。

Becky Walsh

Really enjoyed this, not your conventional murder mystery! A clever, witty plot which had me intrigued until the last page。 This is my first Belinda Bauer book and I’m looking forward to reading more。

Im not really sure how i feel about this book。 Too much going on at times then other times a lengthy description of nothing important。 A kind of cross between a man called ove and the Thursday murder club。 It was ok。 I give it 3。5 stars

Started put slow but was a good read。

Listened to this book through borrow box。 Had a few gasps as the story enfolded unexpectedly。 I don't think I would have had the same reaction reading it myself but to hear the words read。 Wow。 Listened to this book through borrow box。 Had a few gasps as the story enfolded unexpectedly。 I don't think I would have had the same reaction reading it myself but to hear the words read。 Wow。 。。。more

This was a great read about a murder mystery gone wrong。 Although about death and euthanasia it was funny and engaging。 Highly recommended!

Janettef

Loved this - what starts out as quite a nice little tale, snowballs into something else that surprises。

Gilly

A really easy enjoyable read would recommend。 Plot and characters believable Will try another of her books。 Hope they are as good。

R。J。 Gould

Highly original and intriguing plot, the story well-written and laced with humour。 Ideally a 4。5-star review but I thought the last couple of chapters drifted somewhat from the mood of the rest of the book - merely a personal opinion。

Gareth Evans

Should ‘Exit’ be classed as cosy crime? For such a gentle novel, perhaps so, but the term seems rather disingenuous。 Whatever its classification, it’s a very enjoyable light read with a nicely twisted plot and a novel subject。

Nicky Batt

An enjoyable light read。 Not all of it believable but a good story that would make a wonderful drama for tv。 Will look out for more books from this author。

Emma Pitman

Really interesting with a few twists

Suej1990

Loved the way this author depicted this story。 Very unusual but it works! Quirky! A very controversial topic underneath the storyline。

Maureen Foster-clements

A dark comedy。 I lost interest。 The characters were initially interesting but the story descended into silliness。 Then tied up neatly with a big bow。 Not my cup of tea。
