Summary

Patric Richardson, aka the "Laundry Evangelist,” reveals his revolutionary methods for cleaning clothes—and making laundry loads more fun。

Doing laundry is rarely anyone’s favorite task。 But to Patric Richardson, laundry isn't just fun—it's a way of life。 After years of running Laundry Camp at the Mall of America for thousands of eager learners, he's ready to share his tips, tricks, and hacks—bringing surprise and delight to this commonly dreaded chore。

Sorting your laundry? It's not all about whites and darks。 Pondering the wash cycles? Every load, even your delicates, should be washed using express or quick-wash on warm。 Facing expensive dry cleaning bills? You'll learn how to wash everything—yes everything—at home。 And those basically clean but smelly clothes? Richardson has a secret for freshening those too (hint: it involves vodka, not soap)。

Changing your relationship with laundry can also change your life。 Richardson’s handy advice shows us how to save time and money (and the planet!) with our laundry—and he intersperses it all with a healthy dose of humor, real-life laundry stories, and lessons from his Appalachian upbringing and career in fashion。

Laundry Love will make you wonder why you ever stressed about ironing, dry cleaning, or (god forbid) red wine spills on your new couch。 No matter the issue, Richardson is here to help you make laundry miracles happen—wrinkles and stains be damned。

Checked it out from my local library。 This book is fun to read and has lots of valuable information。 I plan to buy my own copy for reference when I’m ready for my laundry makeover!

read this after listening to review on One Great Book podcast。 Not a topic I would normally select but the book was very interesting and humorous。

I've always loved doing laundry。 The white noise of the dryer and a chore that has a beginning and an end is soothing to me。 It is refreshing how this author views laundry。。。 As an act of love。This is less than 200 pages, but filled with tips, tricks and info。 While I see zero need to replace my iron, I did learn a lot! Fun and so informative!,I love this book! At my advanced age I never realized how much I didn't know about doing laundry。 Just to learn about why we should not use so many extraneous products makes it really valuable to me。 I bought the Kindle book first but decided I need the hardback too! Laundry as a metaphor for life。 An unusual but fun read。 I read a library copy but am considering buying a copy for my collection for the section on stain removal alone。

Meredith NeJame

I listened to this book on audio and was enthralled。 I now love laundry too!

Who knew reading about doing laundry would be so fun?! I want Patric to be my new best friend。 He has such great advice and a wonderfully kind and engaging voice。 I borrowed this ebook from my local library, but realize now that I’ll have to purchase it in print and keep it in the laundry room for reference。 I learned a great deal and am currently making plans to rethink my laundry practices。 Great tips for laundry and for life!

I am 100% ambivalent about laundry。 It is a thing I do because it needs to be done, and I have no strong feelings about it。 That is why I was surprised how much I loved this book! If at all possible, listen to it as an audiobook。 It’s read by the author and I loved listening to his voice so much I wanted to be his friend by the end。 Part personal story, part instruction manual, part history (WHY do we sort lights/darks?!), part science (of stains, fabric, and cleaning processes) - it really look I am 100% ambivalent about laundry。 It is a thing I do because it needs to be done, and I have no strong feelings about it。 That is why I was surprised how much I loved this book! The tips are so helpful - i wanted the book so I could refer back (the section on stains, for example)。 I’m excited to ditch my detergents and clean in a more environmentally friendly manner。 。。。more

I read this book in about a day, then spent the rest of the week hunting down bleach alternative and rubbing alcohol so that could wash seven loads of washing in one day! Alongside the great tips and logical explanations of why we should ditch everything we have been told about doing washing, Richardson infuses this book with his passion for clothes, laundry and most of all the women in his life who made him the man he is today。 Even if you pay someone to do your laundry you should read this book!My only criticism is that the book doesn't have an index, which would make it easier to refer back to certain parts when you need to know when and why you should, say, put washing sofa in your load。 。。。more

This was excellent information and I can’t wait to put it all into practice。 This is one of the most helpful books I’ve read and I love the way the author ties this (often tedious) task to serving and loving others。

Julie Swee

Not my typical book but it was interesting, engaging and enjoyable。 Plus I learned a lot

Loved this! Got a ton of new ideas and it confirmed a lot of my own philosophies on laundry。 For example: Downy is the devil and scents are for suckers。

I'm already implementing his most basic tips。 The question will be how many of the more complex ones I adopt。 I'm already implementing his most basic tips。 The question will be how many of the more complex ones I adopt。 。。。more

3 1/2 stars。 Some great advice in this book on laundry。 I was glad to know that I’m already following some of his advice, and I’m totally trying his trick for washing wool sweaters!

A book about laundry? Really? YES。 I had no idea the history and technique of this daily household chore would be so interesting! I originally borrowed this from the library, but ended up purchasing my own copy to use as a reference。 And while I don’t think I’ll take on all of his advice, I am changing the tools and techniques I use for much of our family laundry!

This is more of a reference book than a read-to-enjoy book。 It's the kind of book you'd give a new homeowners or include in a bridal shower basket。 I didn't love how it was written but it definitely made me rethink some of my laundry habits。 And I want to take an in-person Laundry Bootcamp class! I read this book right when my dad passed away and I couldn’t focus on anything。 This practical book, written with love, was the perfect book for me in a difficult moment。

Such a fun read and it totally changed the way I think about laundry (and gave me easy steps to make laundry quicker and better not only for my family but also the environment)。 Read and enjoy!

I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this book。 Maybe there are more domestic guides I need to read? I mean, there is science involved in laundry and what a pleasure to learn from someone who had a passion as a young child, developed expertise, and shared it with the world。 I was drawn to this book because we've been unhappy with our laundry for years now (funky, persistent smells; rough towels; dingy whites)。 We've been doing it all wrong。 The practical guidance was infused with touching stories ab I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this book。 Maybe there are more domestic guides I need to read? Who knew I only need to use the express cycle and wash everything on warm? I used to wash my laundry separately but now I no longer do。 And now I know I never need to use a dry cleaner again。 It's such a relief, honestly, to have simplified the process! I like that Richardson touched on environmental issues, homelessness, acts of service, and accessibility。 It shows me that he's a thoughtful person! 。。。more

Audiobook: Can you love a book about laundry?! Yup。 Yup you can。 I did。 I learned so much I might actually buy this one to keep in my laundry room as reference。 The author narrates the book and tells stories about his growing up and love of laundry。 I’m not going to use all of this methods cause I already have some that really work for me, but I will be changing a lot of things like my wash temperature, how I dry and the soaps and tools I use。 Also I will not iron unless absolutely necessary。
