Cada escrito de Poe te mete tanto en lo que dice, cada vez te vas metiendo más y más al punto de sentir y estar en la escena。。。

Not trying to read this straight through。 There are too many stories and poems, and they are better taken in short doses。 Also, I write novels and stories with Edgar Allan Poe as a character, and frequently I come to the pages of this massive work for inspiration。 Simply one of my favorite authors。

I usually don't waste words and never get impressed by stature of a book, author or no。 of good reviews。The man surely had some good stories and pioneer in some genres。 His poetry is amazing but he takes too many words for his prose and choice of words is also even more archaic than British authors。 Ideas behind stories are amazing in some but again the journey through his syntex becomes laborious act。Gave up after 75% of it。 Poe demands so much time that you can read many more in that time。 I usually don't waste words and never get impressed by stature of a book, author or no。 of good reviews。The man surely had some good stories and pioneer in some genres。 His poetry is amazing but he takes too many words for his prose and choice of words is also even more archaic than British authors。 Ideas behind stories are amazing in some but again the journey through his syntex becomes laborious act。Gave up after 75% of it。 Poe demands so much time that you can read many more in that time。 。。。more

As with so many canonized works of art, it holds relevance today。 I think especially Poe hold relevance in understanding the emergence in examining modern, 'goth' aesthetics and is a reference point for understanding how value is ascribed to the attributes inherit in this culture。 Also im a simp for my english teacher who kntroduced me to this book As with so many canonized works of art, it holds relevance today。 I think especially Poe hold relevance in understanding the emergence in examining modern, 'goth' aesthetics and is a reference point for understanding how value is ascribed to the attributes inherit in this culture。 Also im a simp for my english teacher who kntroduced me to this book 。。。more

3。75。 Edgar Allen Poe’s entire body of work is both incredibly entertaining, beautiful, macabre, touching, and boring。 There are some stories in here, typically regarding balloons, that are just a slog to get through。 Not to mention his review of other books smooshed into this addition, which I am not so sure should be included。 He shines in his gothic, horror, detective, and psychological stories。 Some of his satires are hilarious and I found myself greatly enjoying his one novel ‘The Narrative 3。75。 Edgar Allen Poe’s entire body of work is both incredibly entertaining, beautiful, macabre, touching, and boring。 There are some stories in here, typically regarding balloons, that are just a slog to get through。 Not to mention his review of other books smooshed into this addition, which I am not so sure should be included。 He shines in his gothic, horror, detective, and psychological stories。 Some of his satires are hilarious and I found myself greatly enjoying his one novel ‘The Narrative of A。 Gordon Pym。’ His poetry is of course fantastic and was very enjoyable to work through。 I feel this addition would have benefitted from having a notes section created by whomever compiled the tales addressing/explaining current events, jokes/satires/witticisms of the times, and also translating the Greek, French, and Latin phrases found in many of his works。 There were many stories of humor which relied on being able to understand one or more of these languages and I just didn’t have the energy to google them。 。。。more

For me Poe is the ultimate stylist of the horror genre。 He has a way with words which sets him apart and inspires emulation。 Personally, I like more action, and dare I say, more horror, in my horror, but I give credit to Edgar Allan Poe for the undeniable beauty of his English。

Some stories are good, most aren’t。 A lot of the writing feels self indulgent and there is a lot of racism in the stories。 It’s really a 2。5 star read, but I’ll hold onto my copy for the poems and few stories I’d like。 My suggestion is to stick with the most famous ones

As a fan of horror and science fiction, I had really high hopes for this book。 I was really excited to see the groundwork upon which modern literature was built。 Unfortunately, I was very quickly underwhelmed。 So much so that admittedly, I only made it halfway through。 Maybe that's a bit unfair, as I did not give his poetry a fair chance, but I was honestly just that exhausted of his writing that I could not continue。Part of me just wondered if I wasn't academic enough to appreciate the work, bu As a fan of horror and science fiction, I had really high hopes for this book。 I was really excited to see the groundwork upon which modern literature was built。 Unfortunately, I was very quickly underwhelmed。 So much so that admittedly, I only made it halfway through。 Maybe that's a bit unfair, as I did not give his poetry a fair chance, but I was honestly just that exhausted of his writing that I could not continue。Part of me just wondered if I wasn't academic enough to appreciate the work, but。。 I minored in literature in college。 So。。 by all means, I don't think that's it。 It just did not impress me。 His use of language is not bad by any means, but it does not stand out in any way either。 His horror, which is what he's so renowned for, is just not that suspenseful to me。 Maybe that's because his work was not meant to be read one after another like this, as that only worsens the issue of all of his horror stories following。。 basically the same premise。 Someone is dead。。。 but surprise! They were alive all along! Or something along those lines。 I don't know。 It has charm the first time, but after that, you need to rely on interesting characters to keep your readers engaged, and unfortunately, I think Poe struggles with making any of his characters particularly compelling。 Perhaps that's just because of the time he was writing, or the unrefined nature of short stories, but it's a flaw nonetheless。 This flaw extends to his comedy and satire, which 。。 maybe I simply lacked the necessary context, but they were neither funny nor entertaining。 I did not get to his flights of fancy, but I fee as though 400+ pages of short stories gives me enough of what to expect。 。。。more
