When Dennis friend Lisa discovers his stash of Vogue magazines, she convinces him to vamp it up and wear a dress to school。 But in class, his hilarious hijinks as Denise are brought to a screeching halt when the headmaster discovers his secret and delivers the worst punishment of all Dennis is expelled from school and therefore forbidden to play in the soccer Final Cup!

I read this in 2017 and borrowed it from my school library。 I recommend this for ages 10+。This is a heartwarming, funny story that gives out such a good message。 I loved Dennis。 He was a great main character and his personality was perfect。 A boy wearing a dress? YES! That’s why I loved this book。 I was pretty young when I read this so I did understand this book but of course I do really understand this message a lot more now。 Must read。 I gave this a four stars only because I read it so long ag I read this in 2017 and borrowed it from my school library。 I recommend this for ages 10+。This is a heartwarming, funny story that gives out such a good message。 I loved Dennis。 He was a great main character and his personality was perfect。 A boy wearing a dress? I liked this book a lot。 I spent different parts of the book wondering if the main character, Dennis, was a 10-year-old cross-dresser。 gay or maybe even a boy who was lonely because his mother abandoned him and his family。 He took comfort in wearing her clothes。 Whatever it was, he was different, and in middle school that is just not allowed! He found intolerance coming from all directions。 Friends do come along and his situation does change。 But it is realistic in the end and not just tied up i I liked this book a lot。 I spent different parts of the book wondering if the main character, Dennis, was a 10-year-old cross-dresser。 gay or maybe even a boy who was lonely because his mother abandoned him and his family。 He took comfort in wearing her clothes。 Whatever it was, he was different, and in middle school that is just not allowed!

The Boy in the Dress is one of the most delightful young people novels that simply encourages kids to be who they are。 Think a bit of Billy Elliot with a smattering of Bend it Like Beckham and a sprinkling of Little Britain and that is the essence of this story。 Dennis lives with his father who has been broken since Dennis’s mother abandoned the family one day and his older brother who is too cool for his little brother。 Dennis discovers the only thing he seems to love as much as football is wom The Boy in the Dress is one of the most delightful young people novels that simply encourages kids to be who they are。 Think a bit of Billy Elliot with a smattering of Bend it Like Beckham and a sprinkling of Little Britain and that is the essence of this story。 Dennis lives with his father who has been broken since Dennis’s mother abandoned the family one day and his older brother who is too cool for his little brother。 Dennis discovers the only thing he seems to love as much as football is women’s fashion。 As he buddies up with Lisa (his crush two years ahead of him), he becomes her model muse on whom she can test her latest fashion creations。 With a subtle yet beautiful complexity, Walliams takes the burn out of being and doing whatever makes a person who they are。 Oh, and his character Raj, the local shop proprietor (found in each of this novels), is an absolutely constant, insightful, and comical character readers will delight in encountering time and again。 。。。more

This made me tear up: Dennis's divorced parents, his loneliness, his passion for soccer, his courage to be different, unexpected friendship, and the turnaround at the end of his dad and his brother。 This made me tear up: Dennis's divorced parents, his loneliness, his passion for soccer, his courage to be different, unexpected friendship, and the turnaround at the end of his dad and his brother。 。。。more

The Boy in the Dress is a memorable and often humorous story of acceptance and inclusion。 12-year-old Dennis misses his mum, following the breakup of his parents marriage。 One day he picks up a copy of Vogue in the corner shop, because the model on the front cover is wearing a yellow dress which is reminiscent of one his mum owned。 Encouraged by a girl at school, Dennis decides he’d like to play dress-up in some dresses–like the models in Vogue。 Many of the characters, notably the male grown-ups The Boy in the Dress is a memorable and often humorous story of acceptance and inclusion。 12-year-old Dennis misses his mum, following the breakup of his parents marriage。 One day he picks up a copy of Vogue in the corner shop, because the model on the front cover is wearing a yellow dress which is reminiscent of one his mum owned。 Encouraged by a girl at school, Dennis decides he’d like to play dress-up in some dresses–like the models in Vogue。 Many of the characters, notably the male grown-ups, are angry at Dennis for wanting to do “girl” things。 Walliams takes the reader on Dennis’ journey and presents his desire to wear feminine clothes in a “so-what?” manner。 I can imagine this book being enjoyed by Key Stage Two pupils。 The book could support other areas of the curriculum。 For example, the shop-keeper (Raj) continually offers Dennis and his friends different buy X-amount get Y-amount free deals, which could be blended into maths lessons about fractions。 。。。more

This is by far the best Gender fluid book for kids omg GUYSSSSS I LOVE THIS BOOK! I love all the characters sm。 I'm 19 and I can say you'll be like " why didn't I have the opportunity to read it when I was a kid" 。 There aren't many books that talk about boys wanting to wear a dress/ makeup/ nail polish in an understanding way。 This is one of them。 This is by far the best Gender fluid book for kids omg GUYSSSSS I LOVE THIS BOOK!

Definitely my favourite by David Walliams。 We find that large humour but also there's a huge sensibility about the importance of being able to express feelings。I cried as much as I laughed and it became one of my favourite books ever!
