Well， having not found much in Trese Book One to like （bitty， monster-of-the-month stories with wodges of bumf in line with their being Filipino and therefore full of alien-to-us monsters）， I thought I'd give the third volume a go， just in case things had improved。 And no， they hadn't really， although it was certainly no longer a package of one-shots。 What we have is a three-parter， that ends and jumps to something else entirely， which never really works before it stops and bleeds into an extend Well， having not found much in Trese Book One to like （bitty， monster-of-the-month stories with wodges of bumf in line with their being Filipino and therefore full of alien-to-us monsters）， I thought I'd give the third volume a go， just in case things had improved。 And no， they hadn't really， although it was certainly no longer a package of one-shots。 What we have is a three-parter， that ends and jumps to something else entirely， which never really works before it stops and bleeds into an extended sequel to the first half。 But it really doesn't go anywhere – what looks like a spectacular and supernatural slaughter in a strip joint just devolves into being one of those soldiers-in-the-hills-invoke-the-godlike-manifestion-of-warfare， soldiers-then-regret-it stories。 Yes， the characters introduced by the first four stories， from Book One， make a return to try and pretend this was all planned and well-constructed， but as this book held neither of those qualities that is really debatable。Review of Book One – https://www。goodreads。com/review/show。。。 。。。more

Finally got the origin stories of our main characters。 It's pretty interesting in all of the context， especially how complex Alexandra's relationship with the Kambla actually are。 Not to mention this whole saga about paternal relationships。 The Kambla's father feels like a real piece of work， taking advantage of people who act out of concern for their country， but not so much for the dominators。 Frankly the Kambla were lucky to have had Anton。 He really seemed to be the kind of caregiver that is Finally got the origin stories of our main characters。 It's pretty interesting in all of the context， especially how complex Alexandra's relationship with the Kambla actually are。 Not to mention this whole saga about paternal relationships。 The Kambla's father feels like a real piece of work， taking advantage of people who act out of concern for their country， but not so much for the dominators。 Frankly the Kambla were lucky to have had Anton。 He really seemed to be the kind of caregiver that is sorely missed。。。 I just wish I could feel that loss rather than be given exposition on Alexandra's last conversation in a probably surreal situation。 Espcecially since Alexandra really hasn't been characterized much， just this very competent strategist。Maybe I should see the show to see more of her role in a prophecy from her mother。 Or hold out and hope that some more developments come down the line。 。。。more

★★★★★ // the backstory we all needed was in this volume and it was told in such great detail。 even better， it shows us why Trese is the way she is， how time and responsibility has molded her into this detached young woman but not emotionally inept （heh）。 at the end of the day， she cares a lot out of a sense of duty。 lastly， the final chapter is a masterpiece。 what an amazing feat。 too bad， the succeeding volumes are currently out of print。 i have to wait for next year to get my hands on them。

best volume so far！ i think it's because mass murders is a graphic novel， whilst the last two （murder on balete drive and unreported murders） are episodic instalments， thus this one is more packed on the storytelling and interconnecting scenes， weaving an intricate tale of the main characters' heritage and upbringings。 i really love the origin stories of alexandra and the kambal; i just wish that what really happened in the great balete trials is disclosed。 but i heard sir budj is working on a s best volume so far！ i think it's because mass murders is a graphic novel， whilst the last two （murder on balete drive and unreported murders） are episodic instalments， thus this one is more packed on the storytelling and interconnecting scenes， weaving an intricate tale of the main characters' heritage and upbringings。 i really love the origin stories of alexandra and the kambal; i just wish that what really happened in the great balete trials is disclosed。 but i heard sir budj is working on a separate story for that， so i can't wait to explore the numerous nexus of branches of the famous tree， and glimpse the what could've beens of alexandra's life。 when i first read trese， the thing that struck me the most was the drawing style of sir kajo， as what would be typically expected from readers。 there's something about the brushes and strokes on the pages that finely depict the natural and unnatural aspects of manila in this specific universe， one that clearly paints for me the places i've never been before in my own country， despite living in it for sixteen years of my life and being a natural-born filipino myself。 sir kajo's designs really caught the gritty， dark side of a real place swarmed with otherworldly， vile creatures living amongst filipinos， and that's what i love the most about trese。 *lol full review still coming， i just got tired and lazy and sidetracked。 gonna continue this anytime this week， cross fingers。 。。。more

what i like the most about this one is how unlike the previous volumes， everything here is connected into one big story。 loved learning about the backstories of kambal and alexandra， and there were some info here that werent mentioned in the netflix series so that was great too！

OH MY GOD， THAT WAS A WILD RIDE！ Please I need the next volumes！！！If I am to compare the 3 volumes， this one is by far THE BEST。 I dived into these graphic novels not knowing much about them and while volumes 1 and 2 kept me engaged with the story and the seeming episodic run of each case， it was this third volume that had made me a fan。 And I'm going to say it again - OH MY GOSH， this was a wild ride！ Putting the origin story in book 3 is genius。 I did not see it coming and now that I'm done wi OH MY GOD， THAT WAS A WILD RIDE！ Please I need the next volumes！！！If I am to compare the 3 volumes， this one is by far THE BEST。 I dived into these graphic novels not knowing much about them and while volumes 1 and 2 kept me engaged with the story and the seeming episodic run of each case， it was this third volume that had made me a fan。 And I'm going to say it again - OH MY GOSH， this was a wild ride！ Putting the origin story in book 3 is genius。 I did not see it coming and now that I'm done with the book， I'm left craving for more。 When will the next volumes be printed？ Or are they available somewhere？ Please someone tell me！ 。。。more

Intriguing and spontaneous， 'Mass Murders' paved way to the new kind of storytelling in the series！ The change in phasing was really obvious in the third installment of Trese。 What's usually a short story collection turned into a full-story comic which is a little off but definitely a lot better！ It started with a flashback and only transitioned to the current time in the last chapter—a 5th one—completing the first 13 cases in the series！ These cases contain the Trese family's origin story and Intriguing and spontaneous， 'Mass Murders' paved way to the new kind of storytelling in the series！ The change in phasing was really obvious in the third installment of Trese。 What's usually a short story collection turned into a full-story comic which is a little off but definitely a lot better！ It started with a flashback and only transitioned to the current time in the last chapter—a 5th one—completing the first 13 cases in the series！ These cases contain the Trese family's origin story and Datu Talgbusao's resurrection:Case 9: A Private Retaliation The first case focused on finding the culprit in the mysterious death of the Skeleton Crew。 I didn't find the case alone as interesting but it was a good establishment to the characters in an older timeline with Anton Trese as the lead。Case 10: Patient 414 at Mandaluyong The story progressed with Anton's visit to a patient， who told the backstory of a woman they enslaved and in turn took revenge causing the murders。 This is the first appearance of the Kambal who actually defeated Anton's segben the first time they met！ It's such a bad-ass origin story， especially after learning that Alex's strong companions are children of the God of War himself！Case 11: The Fort Bonifacio Massacre Datu Talagbusao was first summoned in this chapter and has been the most action-packed in the comic so far。 I really like the introduction to the God of War and his unique character design！ The fact that he cannot be defeated with three santelmos also gave a demonstration on just how powerful he is。 Because of that， his banishment seemed like a more sensible solution than death which would've made it less convincing。Case 12: The Baptism of Alexandra Trese Having banished the enemy， the story took a different turn on the next chapter which focused on Alex's fate as the sixth child。 It's the first time this prophecy has been introduced to the story。 A little abrupt as I want to know more of the trials inside the balete tree but I guess that's for another story。Case 13: An Act of War The conclusion to the whole flashback made sense when the Datu has been resurrected。 The God of War proved to be a formidable enemy as he managed to gather an army from the shadows。 He also found an ally in Bagyon Lektro whose son was killed by Alex。 The plot twist was great and I find the conclusion witty and unique。 The story came in full circle as the Kambal met their father again and Trese defeated the God of War just as they had many years ago。Overall， I really like where the series is headed。 It feels as if they have reached the end with the final enemy but that can't be， right？ There are still 6 books ahead！ So here's to more adventures with Trese！ 。。。more

Trese: Mass Murders was the root cause of everything from the first up to ongoing series。 I really like how the cases was related and how it gived more informations to the characters who I love from the first book。 Budjette Tan， the author， introduced the main ANTAGONIST of the story which I hope he comes back for a new set of amazing and interesting action and investigation。Anton Trese was my favorite character in this book。 The Kambal story is the most terryfying that I read。 I love them。
