Horny old man writes about banging chicks and doing drugs。

1。5/5 READ BY HARRY STYLESPerhaps it's just me but I was not impressed with Bukowski's mindless drivel about his sexual relationships。 I disliked it so much that I deleted it from my phone。 For me, this was a very big disappointment。 I expected poetry and got mediocre dialog about a drunk who just had sex with any woman that would and then wrote about her flaws and his disillusion。To make matters worse he didn't even do it with humor or rhyme。 1。5/5 READ BY HARRY STYLESPerhaps it's just me but I was not impressed with Bukowski's mindless drivel about his sexual relationships。 I disliked it so much that I deleted it from my phone。 For me, this was a very big disappointment。 I expected poetry and got mediocre dialog about a drunk who just had sex with any woman that would and then wrote about her flaws and his disillusion。To make matters worse he didn't even do it with humor or rhyme。 。。。more

An odd telling of love, lust, limitations, and loneliness。 Poems as raw as the sex he was evidently having。 4/5

I read this and got left with nothing。 It was mostly just whining。 If I wanted to hear some guy talk about all the women he's fucked, I'd just pop down to the pub。 It would probably be more romantic。 I read this and got left with nothing。 It was mostly just whining。 If I wanted to hear some guy talk about all the women he's fucked, I'd just pop down to the pub。 It would probably be more romantic。 。。。more

This deserves 0 stars。 I don't want to say anything about the topics of his poetry because other 1 star reviews have already expressed the disgust。I have never been so underwhelmed by a writing style, genuinely don't understand how it's poetry when all those sentences could have been written in a diary or on some forum。 I heard that Bukowski's writing style was very beautiful and unique but all I saw was a complete lack of any style。 "The spider" or "The end of a short affair" could have been a This deserves 0 stars。 I don't want to say anything about the topics of his poetry because other 1 star reviews have already expressed the disgust。I have never been so underwhelmed by a writing style, genuinely don't understand how it's poetry when all those sentences could have been written in a diary or on some forum。 I heard that Bukowski's writing style was very beautiful and unique but all I saw was a complete lack of any style。 "The spider" or "The end of a short affair" could have been a reddit or twitter post。 He didn't use language to his advantage in any way possible。 Maybe it was a conscious choice to make it easily relatable or to portray the narrator as one-of-the-guys; be it conscious choice or not - it doesn't work well。 If you didn't like it and think it's because poetry isn't your thing - please, read some other poets; this book by Bukowski doesn't deserve to be put in the poetry section of any book store。 。。。more

This book was a dog from hell。。 My god。。 I wanted to like this book。 I really did。 You’re cool if you like Charles Bukowski。 That’s the rule I know。 However, this man is disturbed, aggressive, a drunk and I just。。 I fail to see the talent。

i can’t picture a serious classy woman reading it, but, given the fact that this is considered a classic in poetry, i guess that might’ve happened。 lol。 the poems are good regardless, but the “tone” gets a little monotonous。 would recommend it though!

liked this one a lot。 had read a few of bukowski's poems before, but first time reading a whole book。 his poetry and writing style is easy to read and flows really well, there are moments of irony and wit, and can be both pessimistic and optimistic at different times。 women are constantly objectified in his works, so you have to try to see past that or see it as part of a character。 either way there are some great poems here。 liked this one a lot。 had read a few of bukowski's poems before, but first time reading a whole book。 his poetry and writing style is easy to read and flows really well, there are moments of irony and wit, and can be both pessimistic and optimistic at different times。 women are constantly objectified in his works, so you have to try to see past that or see it as part of a character。 either way there are some great poems here。 。。。more

1 star Definitely not the kind of poetry I enjoy。 I found this cynical, misogynistic and overall disgusting to be absolutely sincere。“don’t ever bring a whore around,” I tell myfew friends, “I’ll fall in love with her。”“you couldn’t stand a good woman, Bukowski。”This is the best poem that can describe what kind of person we are talking about here。 I am sure that had I known Bukowski in real life, I would have hated him。 Not for me, and not for anyone who actually enjoys life and women。

Daria

my first and probably last bukowski 🤷‍♀️

3。5☆"people are not good to each otherperhaps if they wereour deaths would not be so sad" I like how Bukowski writes (his style of writing), although I don't agree with him on some parts。 Yeah, I can see that he's objectifying women, but that's not the only thing he writes about。 If you pay more attention you will realise his deeper thoughts about women, people, death, life,。。。 I'll also admit that sometimes he pisses me off, but that's fine。 I think I have love and hate relationship with Mr。 Bu 3。5☆"people are not good to each otherperhaps if they wereour deaths would not be so sad" I like how Bukowski writes (his style of writing), although I don't agree with him on some parts。 Yeah, I can see that he's objectifying women, but that's not the only thing he writes about。 If you pay more attention you will realise his deeper thoughts about women, people, death, life,。。。 I'll also admit that sometimes he pisses me off, but that's fine。 I think I have love and hate relationship with Mr。 Bukowski。 What I like about him is that he writes how he sees things, he's projecting his thoughts the way he lived and felt。 So I can't blame him for that。P。S。 The thing with poems is that you don't have to read all of them ;)(even tho I read them all) 。。。more

yeah a lot of these poems are intolerable, and not just because they’re chauvinistic, self-pitying, and borderline pedophilic, but also because they’re… extraordinarily boring?? nonstarters?there’s a few standouts here: we will taste the islands and the sea, alone with everybody, luck, there once was a woman who put her head into an oven, one for the shoeshine manbut aside from these, you mostly feel like you’re trapped in a disturbing country song with the shock value of top 40 lyrics

Bukowski feels a little overhyped。 I might be lambasted for that observation。 Whatever。 There were some enlightening poems within this collection and certainly many that resonated。 For the most part though I grew weary of the constant refrains of “shit,” “vomit,” “roaches,” etc。 I understand that Bukowski captured a certain aesthetic of the urban underworld during his period — but perhaps the most self-aware poem that he wrote (perhaps poking fun at himself) included a stanza that I will paraphr Bukowski feels a little overhyped。 I might be lambasted for that observation。 Whatever。 There were some enlightening poems within this collection and certainly many that resonated。 For the most part though I grew weary of the constant refrains of “shit,” “vomit,” “roaches,” etc。 I understand that Bukowski captured a certain aesthetic of the urban underworld during his period — but perhaps the most self-aware poem that he wrote (perhaps poking fun at himself) included a stanza that I will paraphrase as “the more poems you write the more they sound like each other and the less they sound like you。” One aspect of his poetic style that I did appreciate was its fast-paced, conversational flow。 This is mostly an exercise in free verse / blank verse with little emphasis on metered lines or rhyme。 But he executes a very staccato voice that, in my opinion, captures the hurried environment of an inner city in California。 3/5 。。。more

Bukowskis poetry isn’t bad but rather vivid and raw if you over look the obvious misogyny。
