A fascinating venture back into Hell。 Can't wait for the series, Gwendoline Christie is going to rock this role。And while the volume containing A Midsummer Night's Dream was supposedly a bunch of one-offs, we get another mention of Oberon and Titania here。 Hmm。。。 A fascinating venture back into Hell。 Can't wait for the series, Gwendoline Christie is going to rock this role。And while the volume containing A Midsummer Night's Dream was supposedly a bunch of one-offs, we get another mention of Oberon and Titania here。 Hmm。。。 。。。more

OK, this was the most fascinating volume of all, so far!I really loved the story, the art and the characters in it。LOVED IT!

Eh。 It was okay。 So only 3 stars。 Actually - - I'm rounding up from 2。5。 No one is more surprised by how I feel about this volume than I am。 I have two full shelves of books by Neil Gaiman, and I love them all! So I can't believe I would EVER give a Gaiman work less than 4 stars。 But here we are。 There's a first time for everything I guess。 So far I have LOVED the Sandman volumes 1-3, but I just couldn't connect with volume 4。Relatively speaking, the writing wasn't nearly as clever, and the arti Eh。 It was okay。 So only 3 stars。 Actually - - I'm rounding up from 2。5。 No one is more surprised by how I feel about this volume than I am。 I have two full shelves of books by Neil Gaiman, and I love them all! Now this one was interesting。。。 Lucifer abandons hell?? Uhm what? And then so many people want the key for their own purposes?? Uhm what?Such an interesting premise and I truly loved how it ended and loved the epilogue as well。 I wasn't sure I would like this series when I was reading book one but they really do keep getting more and more interesting。 Some don't seem to connect to the others but maybe they will somewhere down the line? I guess we shall see。 Now this one was interesting。。。 Lucifer abandons hell?? Uhm what? And then so many people want the key for their own purposes?? Dream goes to Hell to save a woman he banished there out of spite。 Rather than fight Dream for her freedom, Lucifer hands over the key。 This “gift” invites many suitors to Dream’s kingdom, in an effort to convince him to give it up in exchange for various favors。 Obviously we’re deep down the rabbit hole here, and again I fell under the spell of this dark and inventive series。 A favorite passage is where a doomed teenager realizes over the course of a week that he has become a ghost — a detour t Dream goes to Hell to save a woman he banished there out of spite。 Rather than fight Dream for her freedom, Lucifer hands over the key。 This “gift” invites many suitors to Dream’s kingdom, in an effort to convince him to give it up in exchange for various favors。 Obviously we’re deep down the rabbit hole here, and again I fell under the spell of this dark and inventive series。 A favorite passage is where a doomed teenager realizes over the course of a week that he has become a ghost — a detour that demonstrates the consequences of Hell’s closure。 Creepy! 。。。more

Fun, but not very substantial。 Just one very long story for Dream to admit that he had a very obvious character flaw, and it is excruciating reading him barely admit as much by the end。 The side characters are, as usual, the best parts。

Azazel character is my fav。 Chapter 6 conflict between dream/azazel is spellbinding。 I think the art and storytelling in vol。 3&4 are very strong。 Dream's ongoing relationship with his sister death is so fascinating to observe。 She is a very nice person and shows some flexibility and relationship with those she guides from this life to the next, so unlike the popular image of the grim reaper or of the ghosts in Scrooge。 She is kind and spunky。 Azazel character is my fav。 Chapter 6 conflict between dream/azazel is spellbinding。 I think the art and storytelling in vol。 3&4 are very strong。 Dream's ongoing relationship with his sister death is so fascinating to observe。 She is a very nice person and shows some flexibility and relationship with those she guides from this life to the next, so unlike the popular image of the grim reaper or of the ghosts in Scrooge。 She is kind and spunky。 。。。more

This volume of Sandman explores the weight and relief of responsibility, freedom, trust, redemption, and forgiveness。 Unlike the other volumes, there is nothing hauntingly terrifying within these pages, but it still contains old and immortal beings that are all oddly reflections of humans。

Nick

Not as riveting as the previous ones, but still very fun。

Well this was fantastic actually。 Absolutely incredible。 It has one of my favorite portrayals of the Devil in any form or fashion for me and is maybe one of the best written Sandman entries to date。 It was a lot of fun and expanded a bit more of the lore and legends of The Sandman。 Season of Mists was really cool, had a lot of good ideas and concepts which is why I keep reading this comic but the writing really really came together here to make a fun ride in which Morpheus deals with change and Well this was fantastic actually。 Absolutely incredible。 It has one of my favorite portrayals of the Devil in any form or fashion for me and is maybe one of the best written Sandman entries to date。 It was a lot of fun and expanded a bit more of the lore and legends of The Sandman。 Season of Mists was really cool, had a lot of good ideas and concepts which is why I keep reading this comic but the writing really really came together here to make a fun ride in which Morpheus deals with change and time and growth in so many ways。 The ending was also very funny, this one had it's darker moments but was also absolutely hilarious in many places。 。。。more

In this volume Lucifer has abdicated hell and turned the keys over to Morpheus the Dream Lord 。 Lucifer sent every one condemned to hell back to earth ,there begins a power-play amongst many to see who will take over Hell(。 As Morpheus is the unwilling lord。 The story and the illustrations are always top-notch。 Gaiman has a gift of weaving bizarre snd intriguing stories。 This is good as a standalone or as I am choosing to do ,reading them in sequence。
