Summary

'Mesmerizing' Time

An art expert instantly spots a fake。 A cop decides whether to shoot。 A psychologist accurately predicts a couple's future in minutes。 This book is about those moments when we 'know' something without knowing why。 It shows that honing your instincts could change the way you think about thinking forever。

'Trust my snap judgement, buy this book: you'll be delighted' David Brooks, The New York Times

'Fiendishly clever' Evening Standard

'Provocative, fascinating, radical' Fergal Byrne, Financial Times

Love listening to this type of book while I work out。 So much to think about!

So interesting。 Highly recommend, and can't wait to talk about in book club。 Thinking about what am I feeding my subconscious on a daily basis。 So interesting。 Highly recommend, and can't wait to talk about in book club。 Thinking about what am I feeding my subconscious on a daily basis。 。。。more

This was an interesting book on how you can assess situations in a blink, usually based on how much experience you have。 I only give it a lower rating than normal because I think Gladwell repeated a little much in this book。

Not my favorite Gladwell。 Started off strong and interesting but I got bored with the second half。

To be honest, not my favorite Gladwell。 Still very interesting with lots of good stories tied in。 But I didn't feel like the points were as fleshed out as Outliers or The Tipping Point。 To be honest, not my favorite Gladwell。 Still very interesting with lots of good stories tied in。 But I didn't feel like the points were as fleshed out as Outliers or The Tipping Point。 。。。more

Gladwell researched and articulated so well some of the ways our brains operate。 I'm glad to have read the science to explain things we usually describe as inexplicable, and in such an engaging storytelling format Gladwell researched and articulated so well some of the ways our brains operate。 I'm glad to have read the science to explain things we usually describe as inexplicable, and in such an engaging storytelling format 。。。more

I was enjoying it until Gladwell got to a section in which he discusses autism。 The author refers to people as ‘normal’ or autistic。 As someone who works with children with autism, I found this is incredibly offensive。 The author also suggests that ‘people with autism as obsessed with mechanical objects。’ Has this author done any real research into ASD?

Gladwell is really right with this one。 Those snap decisions can make or break things。 And you have to learn when to actually act on them, or realize that they aren't as accurate as we first thought。 Gladwell is really right with this one。 Those snap decisions can make or break things。 And you have to learn when to actually act on them, or realize that they aren't as accurate as we first thought。 。。。more

We oftentimes in decision-making don’t trust our gut。 It just doesn’t feel right to make solid decisions right off the bat。 Gladwell explains how there are pros and cons to both kinds of decision-making。 He provides several anecdotes furthering why in some cases we should choose to depend on our gut or vice versa。 In the end, he explains that there is no right way to make decisions。 No one can say truly what type of decision-making is best in a particular situation。 Gladwell wanted readers to un We oftentimes in decision-making don’t trust our gut。 It just doesn’t feel right to make solid decisions right off the bat。 Gladwell explains how there are pros and cons to both kinds of decision-making。 He provides several anecdotes furthering why in some cases we should choose to depend on our gut or vice versa。 In the end, he explains that there is no right way to make decisions。 No one can say truly what type of decision-making is best in a particular situation。 Gladwell wanted readers to understand how we make decisions and why your gut is acceptable to lean on。 It was an interesting read。 I always learn a lot from Gladwell’s books。 He takes the time to carefully research each topic and compiles all of the information into something a curious reader could understand。 It’s not a how to book, but one that can help you better understand the way our minds work。 。。。more

Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinkingผู้เขียน: Malcolm Gladwellผู้แปล: พรเลิศ อิฐฐ์, วิโรจน์ ภัทรทีปกรสำนักพิมพ์: วีเลิร์น (WE LEARN)จำนวนหน้า: 254 หน้า。 Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinkingผู้เขียน: Malcolm Gladwellผู้แปล: พรเลิศ อิฐฐ์, วิโรจน์ ภัทรทีปกรสำนักพิมพ์: วีเลิร์น (WE LEARN)จำนวนหน้า: 254 หน้า。 5/10 。。。more

Definitely one that makes you pause and ponder after it’s done。 I enjoyed it (probably because of my psych education background), but some chapters are certainly more captivating than others。 You need to be interested in the subject matter in order to keep up the momentum to read。 ~ 👩🏻‍🦰

I am oddly devoted to Malcolm Gladwell in all his forms-- writing, podcasting, public speaking。 It occurred to me as I was listening to the most recent season of Revisionist History that I hadn't actually finished reading Blink, so I re-read (and finished) it, and it's just as enjoyable as everything else he does。 Some of this material has been touched on in his podcast, so it might be a bit redundant, and it doesn't move along at quite the same pace, but if you read it with his voice in your mi I am oddly devoted to Malcolm Gladwell in all his forms-- writing, podcasting, public speaking。 It occurred to me as I was listening to the most recent season of Revisionist History that I hadn't actually finished reading Blink, so I re-read (and finished) it, and it's just as enjoyable as everything else he does。 Some of this material has been touched on in his podcast, so it might be a bit redundant, and it doesn't move along at quite the same pace, but if you read it with his voice in your mind (as I do), you're sure to enjoy Blink。 I think at this point, in 2021, it's perhaps not as *groundbreaking* as it might have been upon its release years ago, but it's interesting how relevant it really is。 I also wonder whether Gladwell would be willing to publish the same stories, or have the same take on some of the same stories-- particularly with the police brutality and the temporary mind-blindness。 I appreciated his thoughtful analysis, and I feel like if it had been written in today's ultra-PC environment, his reluctance to heave hatred on cops would be received far less enthusiastically。 Would recommend this book to anyone and everyone-- Gladwell should be required reading。 。。。more

A collection of short stories that all have to fo with first impressions one way or another。 I missed the ‘so what?’ Part in the book。 Nice stories, well told but。。。didn’t go further than that fir me。 Speed read through the last third。

We think a lot and we don't think as much about thinking。 Understanding how we think and how others think could make our lives easier and possibly better。 The book like all the Gladwell books leads us on a series of interesting journeys through the experiences of others and he gradually lets us draw out meaningful inferences。This is a book for anyone who wants to think better at School, Work or in their personal lives。 We think a lot and we don't think as much about thinking。 Understanding how we think and how others think could make our lives easier and possibly better。 The book like all the Gladwell books leads us on a series of interesting journeys through the experiences of others and he gradually lets us draw out meaningful inferences。This is a book for anyone who wants to think better at School, Work or in their personal lives。 。。。more

Malcolm Gladwell is great at narrating the audiobook。 What needs to considered in our evaluation of people and situations in order to make better decisions was interesting。

This is the third book of Malcolm Gladwell's I just finished and there is no doubt I like pretty much his style of writing。 His ability to mix up the stories deriving later on a conclusion based on them really makes me love him as an author。 The book itself is not something very prolific though。 This is the third book of Malcolm Gladwell's I just finished and there is no doubt I like pretty much his style of writing。 His ability to mix up the stories deriving later on a conclusion based on them really makes me love him as an author。 The book itself is not something very prolific though。 。。。more

A collection of anecdotes loosely piled around the concept of judgment。 Certainly an entertaining read, but also a bit maddening in the way the book fails to coalesce around a conclusion (to be fair here, an afterword to the paperback edition attempts to correct this)。

The case studies were fun to read but I can't really see myself using the information in the book, it could have been shortened to a blog post at best。 The case studies were fun to read but I can't really see myself using the information in the book, it could have been shortened to a blog post at best。 。。。more

Malcolm Gladwell is a good storyteller, and I enjoyed many of the fascinating anecdotes and stories he shared。 The insight into implicit bias was particularly valuable。 At times I felt like I was being fed a story with simplified conclusions, when I would have preferred to be presented with more information and think about it myself。

Andrew

If you’re a reader, but haven’t read any of Gladwell’s books then I strongly suggest ordering one right now。 You can’t go wrong with reading him。 He does say some things that I disagree with, but he writes about the most fascinating topics and does it to the highest degree。 Blink is no different。 This is a must read。

Good book。 Learned very interesting things。 Looking forward to reading more books from this author。

Never met a Malcolm Gladwell book I didn’t like。 Outliers is still my favorite, but Blink comes in a close second!
