An interesting, short read of personal stories and scientific data to present the straightforward diet plan used to reverse heart disease in a 12 year study by Dr。 Esselstyn at the Cleveland Clinic。 In summary, eat nothing "with a face or a mother", no meat, no dairy, no oil to maintain cholesterol levels below 150 mg/dL without medication。 Eat vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and fruit。 It's that simple。 This physician helped patients who had heart attacks and stents and pretty much had been An interesting, short read of personal stories and scientific data to present the straightforward diet plan used to reverse heart disease in a 12 year study by Dr。 Esselstyn at the Cleveland Clinic。 In summary, eat nothing "with a face or a mother", no meat, no dairy, no oil to maintain cholesterol levels below 150 mg/dL without medication。 Eat vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and fruit。 It's that simple。 This physician helped patients who had heart attacks and stents and pretty much had been given up on by their cardiologists and surgeons at one of the best heart hospital in the country。 For 12 years, Dr。 Esselstyn followed, tested, and hand held these patients to astounding results。 The data is clear on how to prevent and reverse heart disease。 If your cardiologist is not a vegan, don't trust them。 Do yourself a favor and read these quick 126 pages of inspiration and science。 The rest of the book includes recipes and food tips。 It is a challenge at first to change your diet, but your tastes WILL change, it will get easier, and you will love how you feel as a result and how your arteries respond。 。。。more

Great book。 Plant based is the only way to eat for true health。

This book basically advocates a plant-based, oil-free diet to get rid of the source of chronic heart diseases。 Although the author cites a range of third party research, much of the research and evidence is focused on his own views, interactions with various experts, and experiments (including those with his patients)。 For a health/medical book, it's pretty easy to read。 Dr Esselstyn explains the various heart diseases and procedures quite clearly, and includes lots of pictures to help us unders This book basically advocates a plant-based, oil-free diet to get rid of the source of chronic heart diseases。 Although the author cites a range of third party research, much of the research and evidence is focused on his own views, interactions with various experts, and experiments (including those with his patients)。 For a health/medical book, it's pretty easy to read。 Dr Esselstyn explains the various heart diseases and procedures quite clearly, and includes lots of pictures to help us understand the disease which is useful。 But I do believe that nutrition is absolutely key to health。 Though personally, I prefer the China Study in terms of the depth of research background。 Both recommend a plant-based diet, there there are slight differences, e。g。 the China Study advocates more of whole foods (minimize processed foods), and don't seem as fastidious on oil。 The key is to keep your (i) total blood cholesterol to <150 mg/dL and (ii) LDL cholesterol to <80 mg/dL。 Basically, his nutritional program goes like this:DON'T eat :• Any meat, poultry, fish or eggs• Any dairy products, including butter, cheese, yogurt, and milk。• All types of oil, including olive oil and canola oil。• All refined grains• All types of nuts (though if you don't have heart disease you can have tiny amounts of certain nuts like walnuts)DO eat a variety of:• All types of vegetables (but no avocado for heart patients)• All legumes• All whole grains and products from whole grains (e。g。 bread, pasta, cereals) without added fats。• All types of fruits• Beverages and supplements/medication as required。Book summary at: https://readingraphics。com/book-summa。。。 。。。more

If you, or anyone you know, has a heart condition of any kind this book should be on the reading list。 Dr。 Esselstyn lays out how the food we eat can cause the problem, but most importantly, he shows how food can also heal。

I read mostly for the recipes (was looking for more WFPB SOS recipe options)。 The berry cobbler is so good and easy to make (cut the maple syrup in half/lower sugar and it still tastes great)。

I learned a lot and immediately started putting some of these principles into effect。 My diet has been classically horrible and the time to reverse the effects is now。 I thought easy to read and well explained。 Fills out the documentary “Forks over Knives”。

This book was one of the most focused books I've read about plant based nutrition。 Instead of touching on all the benefits of eating WFPB, it touches exclusively on why it helps heart disease。 It also has a focus on the study he completed and the outcomes for the patients。 His plan is much stricter than the Eat to Live plan but it makes sense for heart disease patients。 Would highly recommend for someone who wants learn more about the benefits of WFPB eating in heart disease。 This book was one of the most focused books I've read about plant based nutrition。 Instead of touching on all the benefits of eating WFPB, it touches exclusively on why it helps heart disease。 It also has a focus on the study he completed and the outcomes for the patients。 His plan is much stricter than the Eat to Live plan but it makes sense for heart disease patients。 Would highly recommend for someone who wants learn more about the benefits of WFPB eating in heart disease。 。。。more

I, just like many others who have read this book, went into it extremely skeptical and pessimistic。 There was no way one "so-called-doctor" could ever convince me that, not only do I need to cut out meat and dairy products; but that I can stop and Reverse any damage I've already done to my body by doing so。 I mean, I knew I could loose weight and be healthier but to this degree? No way。 However, and I'm sure I'm not the only one; i was getting desperate。 I had a heart attack scare and decided I I, just like many others who have read this book, went into it extremely skeptical and pessimistic。 There was no way one "so-called-doctor" could ever convince me that, not only do I need to cut out meat and dairy products; but that I can stop and Reverse any damage I've already done to my body by doing so。 I mean, I knew I could loose weight and be healthier but to this degree? No way。 However, and I'm sure I'm not the only one; i was getting desperate。 I had a heart attack scare and decided I needed some guidance and advice and I was willing to get it from anywhere。 So, my sister found this book online and here I am with my review。 I loved that Dr。 Esselstyn backed up almost everything with results from all of his studies and patients' stories and in detail。 Most people who say "vegan is the way" typically have no real information of what veganism is other than it's healthy; they have no idea what the real medical benifits are, and / or their only reason for veganism is to save the animals。 Dont get me wrong, I love animals and have always hated that they suffer so we can eat, I was just never strong enough to actually change。 It wasn't until I started having heart attack symptoms a month ago that I got serious about wanting to change my lifestyle。 This book helped me to discover and believe in the benefits of a plant based diet and I am in the middle of transitioning to that diet 100%。On top of all that, I learned a lot。 Some things were so interesting I had to highlight them。 For example, I had no idea there were 2 different kinds of strokes, or what a bypass actually was, or that avocado has a lot of fat in it for a vegetable, or that this diet not only helps you prevent cardiac disease and loose weight; it also helps prevent cancers, memory loss, dementia, alzhimers and sexual incompetence。 Also, all the surgeries (bypass, etc。) do not fix the problem。 They only Alleviate the symptoms。I also liked the before and after photos。One of my favorite parts is when he calls out the people lying and feeding us garbage (literally) and when he calls out the people in medicine who want money, not to save us。There were only 2 reasons I could not give a 5 star:1。 While it was very interesting and informative, it was extremely repetitive in some areas。 I get it, this diet is the Answer。 2。 The book is 320 pages (with the recipes)。I understand he wants people to be able to have them to start the diet, but I don't think those pages should have been counted。 I'm not gonna read them as part of the book, it'll only be when I am ready to cook。 Over all, very interesting, honest and informative。 Highly recommend。 。。。more

This plan is a total life saver and has been a game changer for me。 I am facing down heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes and dementia。 I have tried multiple plans and although this is strict I find it liberating in that there is no counting or weighing of foods just stick to no animals, oils or fats and eat the rainbow! As far as a book goes? I wish there were color photos of the recipes

Having recently been diagnosed with coronary artery disease (CAD), which came as a shocker, this is an excellent book from the world renowned Cleveland Heart Clinic。 It explains a disease that is the leading killer in America as well as how to modify your diet and exercise in the hope that it does not get any worse。

Caldwell is the original backer for plant based lifestyle。 Him along with Dr Campbell are amazing men with a awesome story to tell。 Caldwell son is also the starter of Engine 2 food line as an ex firefighter。 I have been a fan of the whole family from his wife to his daughter for years。 They make educated points with case studies backing them up。 There is also an excellent cookbook that goes along with this book。

Easy to read Was able to read this book in a couple of hours。 It was easy to understand with little use of medical jargon a no medical person could comprehend。 I am now ready to try my hand at the delicious recipes included in the book。 My only suggestion would to include a weekly menu p!an。

Borrowed from the library after watching Forks Over Knives。 I really liked this book much better than The China Study。 I felt that this book gave the point of The China Study and what it means for people and how to go about implementing it in our lives。 I got some great recipes from the book too。 I borrowed it from the library and love it so much I might order the book。

This is the best book I've read on heart disease and diet so far。 I didn't rate it 5 stars because there are questions I still have that I didn't feel were answered。 Who are these billions of people eating a no-oil vegan diet that he talk about? I've since fallen off the bandwagon, but this book has made me consider whether I should double down。 Perhaps I could reduce those numbers further by eliminating oil and get off the statins completely。 。。。more

Full of anecdotal evidence that the eating regime describes does reverse heart disease, so will only be of interest to people with that condition。 There are a lot of recipes so the transition to the diet is less hard to achieve but that way of eating is a big ask。 I’m going to try to stick to it as much as I can tho。

Excellent argument for plant-based nutrition。 Did not give 5 stars because many of the recipes conflict with other nutritional advice or athletic requirements (they're low protein, high gluten, high sugar)。 That said, with 2/3 of the country suffering from self-inflicted obesity and Western illness, this book should be required reading-- or at least the accompanying documentary, Forks Over Knives。 (Note- that book is less compelling than this book, but the documentary is well done)。 Also watch T Excellent argument for plant-based nutrition。 Did not give 5 stars because many of the recipes conflict with other nutritional advice or athletic requirements (they're low protein, high gluten, high sugar)。 That said, with 2/3 of the country suffering from self-inflicted obesity and Western illness, this book should be required reading-- or at least the accompanying documentary, Forks Over Knives。 (Note- that book is less compelling than this book, but the documentary is well done)。 Also watch The Game Changers。 。。。more

This book is groundbreaking and I acknowledge its significance。 This was one of the first books advocating STRONGLY for a whole foods plant-based diet from a medical point of view。 I just found it a bit boring and full of anecdotes; also I've heard almost all the info in it before since I am somewhat involved in this arena。 This book is groundbreaking and I acknowledge its significance。 This was one of the first books advocating STRONGLY for a whole foods plant-based diet from a medical point of view。 I just found it a bit boring and full of anecdotes; also I've heard almost all the info in it before since I am somewhat involved in this arena。 。。。more
