Summary

Running a small-town police force in the mountains of New Mexico should be a smooth, carefree kind of job。 Sadly, full-time Sheriff--and even fuller-time coffee guzzler--Sunshine Vicram, didn't get that memo。

All Sunshine really wants is one easy-going day。 You know, the kind that starts with coffee and a donut (or three) and ends with take-out pizza and a glass of chardonnay (or seven)。 Turns out, that's about as easy as switching to decaf。 (What kind of people do that? And who hurt them?)

Before she can say iced mocha latte, Sunny's got a bar fight gone bad, a teenage daughter hunting a serial killer and, oh yes, the still unresolved mystery of her own abduction years prior。 All evidence points to a local distiller, a dangerous bad boy named Levi Ravinder, but Sun knows he's not the villain of her story。 Still, perhaps beneath it all, he possesses the keys to her disappearance。 At the very least, beneath it all, he possesses a serious set of abs。 She's seen it。 Once。 Accidentally。

Between policing a town her hunky chief deputy calls four cents short of a nickel, that pesky crush she has on Levi which seems to grow exponentially every day, and an irascible raccoon that just doesn't know when to quit, Sunny's life is about to rocket to a whole new level of crazy。

Yep, definitely a good day for chardonnay。

I really enjoyed the second book in this series。 Why not 5 stars? 1) I love Auri, but she sort-of got on my nerves with all of the self-righteous rule-breaking。 2) The first half of the book was a little slow。 But。。。the plot picked up and some storylines got (mostly) resolved in a satisfying way。

I love Darynda Jones books, like every single one makes you actually laugh out loud。 The worse part is when they end。。 Now I have to wait。。。。。 ugh。。。。。 What an ending。

Great book。 I really loved the majority of the book which is in Sunshine's POV。 I am unsure on the parts from Auri's POV。 I liked Auri but throughout the book we shuffle between YA (from Auri's POV who is 14) and Adult (from Sun's POV) which broke the flow IMO。 Everytime there is an intersting development in main story from Sun's perspective, the authors jumps to Auri's storyline and I found myself getting impatient for those parts to be over so we can get to the main storyline。 Additionally, th Great book。 I really loved the majority of the book which is in Sunshine's POV。 I am unsure on the parts from Auri's POV。 I liked Auri but throughout the book we shuffle between YA (from Auri's POV who is 14) and Adult (from Sun's POV) which broke the flow IMO。 Everytime there is an intersting development in main story from Sun's perspective, the authors jumps to Auri's storyline and I found myself getting impatient for those parts to be over so we can get to the main storyline。 Additionally, the storyline from Auri's POV was much better in first book and suited her while the storyline in this book just didn't fit her。That's my only complain。 The book is amazing otherwise。 Looking forward to the next book。 。。。more

Second in a new series by this author。 I like them and wish they came a little closer together。 I feel like I read this one too quickly。 There's a lot going on and I feel like I missed some of it。 I'll need to read it again soon。Be sure to read the first in the series, they tie together alot。 Second in a new series by this author。 I like them and wish they came a little closer together。 I feel like I read this one too quickly。 There's a lot going on and I feel like I missed some of it。 I'll need to read it again soon。Be sure to read the first in the series, they tie together alot。 。。。more

I almost gave this a 5, almost。 The borderline cliffhanger-esq nature of the ending firmly makes it impossible to rate at 5。 #petpeeve I see the next book comes out in June, that's 9 months。 *Book 2 in the Sunshine Vicram series。 You should read the previous book to have a better feel for events。 This book was really good, Darynda is being upgraded to my "can shit on paper and I'll read it" list of authors。 I laughed。 I cried (for real, lots of feels。) this was a fantastic book。 My major complai I almost gave this a 5, almost。 The borderline cliffhanger-esq nature of the ending firmly makes it impossible to rate at 5。 #petpeeve I see the next book comes out in June, that's 9 months。 *Book 2 in the Sunshine Vicram series。 You should read the previous book to have a better feel for events。 This book was really good, Darynda is being upgraded to my "can shit on paper and I'll read it" list of authors。 I laughed。 I cried (for real, lots of feels。) this was a fantastic book。 My major complaint is the smexy times being stopped so he can ask "do you consent", in those exact words。 There is something super unsmexy about that。 There are many other ways fictional characters could demonstrate consent without slamming on the brakes to say "do you consent"。 First of all, does she consent to what? That's pretty vague。 Second of all, to reiterate, there are many other ways that one could ask that question that would feel more natural and more true to RL。 I just found the wording pulled me out of the story。 。。。more

I love this author so much。 She tells a great story and has some of the best dialogue out there。 I literally laugh out loud。 I can't wait to read the next installment。 The cliffhanger this ended on was a doozy。 I had figure it out earlier but wasn't sure how it was going to play out。 It was worth the wait。 I love this author so much。 She tells a great story and has some of the best dialogue out there。 I literally laugh out loud。 I can't wait to read the next installment。 The cliffhanger this ended on was a doozy。 I had figure it out earlier but wasn't sure how it was going to play out。 It was worth the wait。 。。。more

Totally enjoyable from beginning to end。 I love Sunshine Vicram's character and Ms。 Jones gives her great situations to perform in。 There is a romance sub-plot (I consider the mystery to be the main story line) and one explicit sex scene。 Totally enjoyable from beginning to end。 I love Sunshine Vicram's character and Ms。 Jones gives her great situations to perform in。 There is a romance sub-plot (I consider the mystery to be the main story line) and one explicit sex scene。 。。。more

This is a must-read!The Sunshine Vicram story has been a real pleasure to read! All I’ll say about book 2 is that it is so unexpected。 If you read book 1, you must read book 2! The mystery, anticipation, and expertly-written story of family and love and loyalty kept me reading all day through to the end。 The characters are well-developed and either likable or easy-to-hate, just based on their actions throughout the book。 If it was real life, I would like to be friends with some of the characters This is a must-read!The Sunshine Vicram story has been a real pleasure to read! I think it's tough when you love a series from an author sooooo much then they start a new one that, while good, just isn't like the first。 That's the case here for me。This is a good story with danger and snark and love and it's filled with so many "quirky" characters。 I think we all saw the overall twist coming but I enjoyed the story nonetheless。 I think it's tough when you love a series from an author sooooo much then they start a new one that, while good, just isn't like the first。 That's the case here for me。This is a good story with danger and snark and love and it's filled with so many "quirky" characters。 I think we all saw the overall twist coming but I enjoyed the story nonetheless。 。。。more

Another Winner This is another great book by Darynda Jones! I am eagerly awaiting the third installment in this series, and praying that she finishes the Grim reaper series that first introduced me to her work。

This was a fun palate-cleanser kind of read。 I struggled through the first one hundred pages。 trying to catch my groove with the story, but then I caught my stride。 There were a couple of scenes that were extra cringe worthy, and I almost gave up, but it was a great read in the end。

Rounded up to 4。5。 I love this series - the characters and the mix of comedy with thriller/suspense and even romance。 It’s everything I enjoy in a book wrapped up in a perfect package。 I even love the quirky quotes at the beginning of each chapter。 Can’t wait to read the next one in the series!
