Summary

This book was great! It has been a hot minute since I actually read it, but I remember it teaching great lessons, it had great description, and dialogue。 I got to use my mind to create the picture oh August and his family。 Along with the plot and settings。 I recommend reading it!

Sweet book。 Good writing, but in my opinion would be better as a read aloud (or independent read) for an elementary aged child。 It definitely has some good lessons in character building and thinking about how others feel。

。。。more

Should be required reading for middle school kids。 I really appreciated hearing the story from each character’s POV; a little disappointed we didn’t hear from Julian, however。 My favorite line came from Justin: “The universe takes care of all it’s birds。”

Didn’t dislike the book, definitely written for a juvenile。 I liked Auggie’s progression throughout the book to the end。 Nice wholesome novel。

This was just such a great feel good book。 One where we get to see the incredible bravery and kindness of Auggie and others。 I also loved how the book gave other perspectives of people around August。 I especially liked the sections from his sister, Via。 It’s an equally important part of a physical difference that it impacts family in ways that is not always talked about。 I loved how all the kids came together in times of stress。 Just such warm fuzzy feels。

3rd time reading this one, I think。 Still made me cry。 This is a great one。 The only reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars was because I had some minor issues with the writing from Auggies POV。 I loved how there were different perspectives though。 I especially love Via and Miranda’s, I thought they were very interesting characters and I would’ve loved to see more of them

Wonder。 What can you say。 This book is something that I will cherish and bring with me in my mind everywhere I go。 This book brings you to tears, it also has a movie (more tears) and it's no exception to the tears。 The book is wonder-ful, and it is definitely a must read。 Wonder。 What can you say。 This book is something that I will cherish and bring with me in my mind everywhere I go。 This book brings you to tears, it also has a movie (more tears) and it's no exception to the tears。 The book is wonder-ful, and it is definitely a must read。 。。。more

Now there are those who adore this book, and I do not begrudge them that。 This story of a boy with a facial anomaly who is going to school for the first time as a fifth grader, and having to navigate the social hell that is middle school has a lot of good to it。 It definitely emphasizes empathy and understanding。 You should have no qualms if your child is reading this and if they love it all the better。However I did not love this book。 It reminds me of Judy Blume books, with one major difference Now there are those who adore this book, and I do not begrudge them that。 This story of a boy with a facial anomaly who is going to school for the first time as a fifth grader, and having to navigate the social hell that is middle school has a lot of good to it。 It definitely emphasizes empathy and understanding。 You should have no qualms if your child is reading this and if they love it all the better。However I did not love this book。 It reminds me of Judy Blume books, with one major difference--it's missing the grit and realism。 This is a Disneyesque take on bullying, the kind of book a guidance counselor would write。 For it to work it requires some characters (particularly August) to be exemplary to the point of near sainthood。 It requires Jr。 High students who never swear, who never have scatiological humor, who don't discuss sex, or anything remotely controversial。 Even the bullying is mostly confined to in-jokes and exclusion, never getting close to the cruelty middle schoolers are truly capable of。 So it comes off less of a story and more of a sanitized brand--it's hard not to notice the many other Wonder products on the back cover--and while I approve of its message, it is not conveyed in a way that would really help someone getting bullied navigate their situation, nor would convince someone who was a bully to stop。 It might, however, encourage kids who are neither bullied nor bullying to pay more attention to how people are treated around them。 But otherwise (for me) it's a very special episode that seems to want to be generically uplifting more than its interested in having any real dialogue about anything real。 Some will love it for that very reason, and I wouldn't want to take that way from them even if I could。 。。。more

Wonder by R。J Palacio is a brilliant novel。 I loved reading it。 The character development shown by August as well as his friends from the beginning to the end of the story was great and I enjoyed the change in narrative in which we were able to view the perspectives of other characters such as Via。 This book would be a great story to implement into a KS2 classroom as it can be used to explore the theme of kindness, friendship and its importance in our interactions in everyday life。 Overall, the Wonder by R。J Palacio is a brilliant novel。 I loved reading it。 The character development shown by August as well as his friends from the beginning to the end of the story was great and I enjoyed the change in narrative in which we were able to view the perspectives of other characters such as Via。 This book would be a great story to implement into a KS2 classroom as it can be used to explore the theme of kindness, friendship and its importance in our interactions in everyday life。 Overall, the story addresses various relevant topics and widens the perspective on what it truly means to be a friend, to be kind and to be brave。 。。。more
