Summary

Friday Night Lights meets Morgan Matson's The Unexpected Everything in this contemporary debut where swoonworthy romance meets underdog sports story。

When softball star Liv Rodinsky throws one ill-advised punch during the most important game of the year, she loses her scholarship to her fancy private school, her boyfriend, and her teammates all in one fell swoop。 With no other options, Liv is forced to transfer to the nearest public school, Northland, where she'll have to convince its coach she deserves a spot on the softball team, all while facing both her ex and the teammates of the girl she punched。。。 EverySingleDay

Enter Grey, the injured star quarterback with amazing hair and a foolproof plan: if Liv joins the football team as his temporary replacement, he'll make sure she gets a spot on the softball team in the spring。 But it will take more than just a flawless spiral for Liv to find acceptance in Northland's halls, and behind that charismatic smile, Grey may not be so perfect after all。

With lovable characters and a charming quarterback love interest, Throw Like a Girl will have readers swooning from the very first page。

As a reader who is completely honest in all her reading reviews。。。 I am giving this book a 4 for a few reasons。 I had a lot of expectations for this book, one being I expected so much more Grey and Liv time。 There were certain times where I got the good little romance here and there and I definitely am not mad at all for that。 I just wished their relationship had more of a develop period。 The last five chapters though really pulled me into the book。 So if your having a slight hard time continue As a reader who is completely honest in all her reading reviews。。。 I am giving this book a 4 for a few reasons。 I had a lot of expectations for this book, one being I expected so much more Grey and Liv time。 There were certain times where I got the good little romance here and there and I definitely am not mad at all for that。 I just wished their relationship had more of a develop period。 The last five chapters though really pulled me into the book。 So if your having a slight hard time continue powering through because the ending is really worth it。 。。。more

On principal, I usually try not to be an asshole when reviewing books but holy shit…I think this one deserves it。Let’s start this off by clarifying that this entire book was boring。 The main character was boring。 The love interest was boring。 The romance was boring。 Even the football scenes, which I almost always adore in other sports romance novels, were boring。 Riddle me this, patrons of Goodreads: if a girl was kicked off her high school sports team and lost her scholarship to her private sch On principal, I usually try not to be an asshole when reviewing books but holy shit…I think this one deserves it。Let’s start this off by clarifying that this entire book was boring。 The main character was boring。 The love interest was boring。 The romance was boring。 Even the football scenes, which I almost always adore in other sports romance novels, were boring。 Riddle me this, patrons of Goodreads: if a girl was kicked off her high school sports team and lost her scholarship to her private school after punching a girl from the rival team, only to be forced to join the sports team AT said rival school, it would make sense for the love interest to be her RIVAL would it not? You would expect that when she takes his spot as the starting quarterback that he would despise her while trying to handle his undeniable and irrevocable attraction to her, would you not? Well, this book has none of what makes a sports romance a good romance: rivalry。 Or romantic tension, or even any chemistry at all。 I wanted to like this book so badly, to be able to add it to my plethora of incredible sports romance novels, but the entire thing fell so completely flat。 Good thing it was a quick, YA contemporary, or I don’t think I could have finished it at all。Maybe I sabotage myself, expecting every sports romance book that I read to be as remarkable as All For The Game or Check, Please or From Lukov With Love。 Maybe it’s my own fault for reading YA contemporaries in my 20s and hoping for something to call home about。I would recommend this to anyone under the age of 15, but that’s about it, honestly。 No one hit me up, I am very disappointed。If you would like to listen to me review more books, go check out my YouTube Channel, Lipstick & Literature! 。。。more

This book was soooo good!! I preordered the new cover and immediately started reading it。 If I wasn’t busy I could’ve finished this is just a couple of sittings。 It had me so engrossed into the story that It was hard to put down at times。 The relationship between Grey and “O-Rod” (Liv) is super super cute and I love that it isn’t the main focus and conflict of this story。 It’s definitely a book you want to pick up if you’re into romance and sports。 :))

I've been in a total reading slump lately, but have been able to binge a few YA romcoms to fill the void。 I was hoping this one would also do the trick, especially because the premise reminded me of Dairy Queen。 Yeah。。。 I should have just reread Dairy Queen。I binged about the first half of this book a couple of days ago -- so why am I abandoning it now? Well, it had a promising start。 I was definitely intrigued by the conflict of the character switching to a rival school, and then ending up playing football on a team with her shitty ex-boyfriend。 That stuff was good。 Everything else just got too rushed and cliche for me。 The romance was so underdeveloped。 All the characters did was snark at each other for 0。2 seconds and then all of a sudden they were making out。 There just wasn't any chemistry between them to me, and I also prefer a slow burn, so them just randomly getting together halfway through the book felt way too early to me。 And I honestly don't really care about whatever secret Grey has。 I know it's just going to cause forced drama between them before they ultimately still end up together。Also。。。 I get that Liv was an athlete, and had some natural talent for football。 That's fine。 But her playing football for a week (with ZERO prior experience doing the sport) and then suddenly becoming the greatest quarterback anyone has ever seen? So unrealistic。 In Dairy Queen, for example, the main character had been playing and learning about football her whole life because of her father and brothers。 Even then, she still has to really try to get on the team, and it's definitely not easy for her to play with a bunch of guys。 And she doesn't become the best player on the team either。 This just felt so forced; Liv didn't have to be suddenly "better than all the boys" to prove that a girl can play on a team with guys。 So yeah。 I devoted a little too much time to this one, and probably should have stopped earlier。 Or maybe I should just finished it。。。 but coming back to it after two days, I feel no desire to read anymore of it。 Also, some YA just doesn't do it for me anymore because I'm getting older, and that's understandable。 But honestly, this one doesn't even feel like one I would have been into when I was younger。 Last thing: there was some good stuff in here! I hate being so negative in a review -- but this one just wasn't for me, and I felt the need to rant (mainly for my own benefit) about why I'm not going to finish it。 。。。more

High school junior softball standout with a close family going through tough times has to switch schools and she and her arm get recruited as backup quarterback for the football team。 Competitive sports, strong sibling relationships and romance -- this is my kind of book, and it was executed well。

I love when women push boundaries and thats what I loved most about this story。 Female quarterback? Awesome!

Liv is a complete badass。 I LOVE how this novel doesn't make it a big deal that Liv is a quarterback for her high school team。 They completely normalize a GIRL playing football with ALL boys。 I mean, they mention how the team has to come to terms with Liv's joining the team and show a little kick back she gets, but overall, it's completely accepted that there's a girl on a football team who even becomes a starter! And I am here for it。 I wish the novel was a little less romancy; however, it was Liv is a complete badass。 I LOVE how this novel doesn't make it a big deal that Liv is a quarterback for her high school team。 They completely normalize a GIRL playing football with ALL boys。 I mean, they mention how the team has to come to terms with Liv's joining the team and show a little kick back she gets, but overall, it's completely accepted that there's a girl on a football team who even becomes a starter! If you want a female superhero who is actually human - this is for you。 Liv is opening doors into the boys locker room on Friday Night Lights to ALL GENDERS。 I want more stories like this。 And I want more real life stories of girls breaking into male dominated sports。 。。。more

This book was a little on the cheesy side but I still really enjoyed it! I’m a sucker for young love having married my high school sweetheart ❤️Sprinkle in some Friday night football and a little girl power as the cherry on top。 Loved the characters and the strong family dynamics in this one。 Definitely recommend as a fun late- summer read as we get into football season。

I’m usually not one for Rom-Coms but decides to give the Audible book THROW LIKE A GIRL a try and I wasn’t disappointed。 The narrator had a pleasant voice and did a great job voicing both male and female voices and differentiating between different characters。 The story centering around a high school girl playing football had some more serious subplots but is also light enough to be a fun beach read or listen。

I liked the sports references。 The love story was okay。

I liked this book for the wrong reasons。 I didn’t really care for Grey, to be honest。 He was cool but I really liked Liv and not just because I share a name with her。 Her determination and disposition made her a fantastic and interesting protagonist。 She’s relatable and strong。 Addy was amazing too, and their relationship was one of the best parts of the books。 So was Topps and the other members of the teams。 The characters, not the romance, is why I enjoyed it so much。

Reading YA romances requires me to be in a different frame of mind than when I read adult contemporary romances。 Actions that would totally turn me off as a reader when they are done by adults are much more understandable when done by teenagers。 We've all lived through high school and made stupid comments or stupid mistakes。 We've all had those moments where we chose to stick with the crowd and do the wrong thing when it would have been better to stand alone and do the right thing。 High school i Reading YA romances requires me to be in a different frame of mind than when I read adult contemporary romances。 Actions that would totally turn me off as a reader when they are done by adults are much more understandable when done by teenagers。 We've all lived through high school and made stupid comments or stupid mistakes。 We've all had those moments where we chose to stick with the crowd and do the wrong thing when it would have been better to stand alone and do the right thing。 High school is a giant petri dish of young people who feel invincible and yet highly vulnerable at the same time 。。。 leading to all sorts moments of bad judgment。 So, anyway, once I got my head wrapped around this idea I was able to dive right into this story and see the beauty of it。 I think I loved Throw Like a Girl especially because the main characters were all so flawed。 Sometimes YA novels fall into the trap of making their high school characters not act like realistic high school students。 I know there are noble youth who are good and kind and have the best intentions as they interact with the world, but even those amazing youth are flawed and insecure in lots of ways。 And even if they aren't, they still have to navigate a world full of other youth who are。 I loved that Liv and Grey are flawed。 They both make some questionable decisions in this story, but I guarantee that there are scores of high school athletes who make similar decisions all over the country。 I could appreciate the realism of their choices while also recognizing the stupidity of them。I should probably point out that the setup for the story is a bit of a stretch。 In order to get Liv in a spot where she can take over as a quarterback for a high school football squad, she has to first get thrown out of her private school where she is a star softball player。 The events that lead up to her leaving that school were pretty dramatic。 There was a flash decision made that seemed pretty rash。 Surely schools have some sort of process that would take more than a day。 But, okay, whatever 。。。 Liv is out and now at the local public high school 。。。 which also happens to be the school she was playing when the big kerfuffle takes place。 Handy。 But for her to just jump into this role as a quarterback for the team through a set of handy convenient encounters and then to be way better than these boys who have been playing football all their lives 。。。 well, it's a bit farfetched。 But I rolled with it, and it didn't really bother me all that much, other than the fact that I felt like in a real life situation the team would probably take longer to embrace such an abrupt change in their program。Overall, I'd say that there isn't all that much to the plot other than typical high school drama。 And that's another thing I liked。 Yeah, Liv's mom has a pretty bad case of cancer, but that isn't a driving narrative of the story。 It just is what it is, a fact of Liv's life that causes hardship for her family 。。。 but this isn't a story about that。 Instead, I feel like this is just a story about high school kids finding a way to succeed in the drama filled typical lives of high school students。 You have mean girls and gossip and relationship drama。 You have lying and misleading。 You have competition。 There are stupid kids saying stupid things that they didn't really mean。 You have stupid kids making stupid choices because they are afraid about their futures or what the rest of the world might think。 You have parent/child disagreements。 And through it all Liv (and Grey too) have to ride the ups and downs and continue to move forward toward success。 I liked them, and I liked their flawed journey。 The audio narration of this was great。 I really felt like I was listening to a high school student。 Four stars。 I really liked this。 。。。 And bonus points for this taking place in the Kansas City area。 I love reading stories about Royals/KU/Chiefs fans and locations in Kansas City that I know and love。 It feels like I'm reading about home。 。。。more

I kept waiting with slight dread for those stereotypical situations to rear their ugly head at pivotal moments and was delighted when they never came。Not being as familiar with high school football, I did feel some of the scores were high。 A quick google search found an article from 2014 that said the average high school football score in Kansas is 51。21 so I guess that means the scoring does check out。 Who knew!Anyways, I really enjoyed this read and am tempted to keep the book on my shelf。 。。。more

A meh contemporary about sports and liars。I don`t really feel like giving a whole structured review on this book, but did I find it alright while reading? I'd say yes。 Would I read it again or recommend it?
