Was a wonderful guide to read prior to my trip to Italy。 Gave me several wonderful out of the way places to see and insights into well known areas。Easy to read, small enough to take on your trip!

Great book, helped me get through a month in Italy, unplanned。 I went to any of the recommended sites and restaurants。Best guide for Italy but maybe buy an ebook if you're trying to travel light, this book definitely weighted me down a bit。 But worth it, I went on so many day trips to cities I didn't know existed and loved。 Great book, helped me get through a month in Italy, unplanned。 I went to any of the recommended sites and restaurants。Best guide for Italy but maybe buy an ebook if you're trying to travel light, this book definitely weighted me down a bit。 But worth it, I went on so many day trips to cities I didn't know existed and loved。 。。。more

Pretty useful。 A bit light on in some areas。 Good maps。 Left it behind somewhere near lake Como:(

Utile per avere una panoramica di quello che si può vedere in Italia, ma per ovvi motivi di spazio è molto superficiale。 È utile per avere delle indicazioni di massima, ma poi le varie località devono essere approfondite con altri strumenti。

Read in preparation for my first trip to Europe; it seems great。 My son and I enjoyed looking through the sections on Rome and Vatican City。

Wasn't of this travel guide, which managed to be both too broad and too specific at the same time。 I really wish the last several chapters had been at the beginning rather than the end of the book, as they contained information on what the budget range meant。 Overall, this was not the travel guide for someone like me, I think I'll skip Lonely Planet next time。 I found Rick Steves to be far more useful。 Wasn't of this travel guide, which managed to be both too broad and too specific at the same time。 I really wish the last several chapters had been at the beginning rather than the end of the book, as they contained information on what the budget range meant。 Overall, this was not the travel guide for someone like me, I think I'll skip Lonely Planet next time。 I found Rick Steves to be far more useful。 。。。more

Until I’ve been to Italy, I can’t know the true value of this book。 However, having read it in preparation, I can comment on what I’ve so far found。 I’m off to Italy soon, visiting Rome, Naples and Pompeii, Florence, and Lake Maggiore, which is why I bought the general travel book rather than a city-specific volume。This is a comprehensive tome, and includes lots of very informative maps, including a removeable folding map of Rome。 There are sections on all the regions and cities of this fascinat Until I’ve been to Italy, I can’t know the true value of this book。 However, having read it in preparation, I can comment on what I’ve so far found。 I’m off to Italy soon, visiting Rome, Naples and Pompeii, Florence, and Lake Maggiore, which is why I bought the general travel book rather than a city-specific volume。This is a comprehensive tome, and includes lots of very informative maps, including a removeable folding map of Rome。 There are sections on all the regions and cities of this fascinating country。 You’ll find advice on the many interesting places to visit in each location, and there are links for the websites that provide more detailed information, as well as those where prospective visitors can obtain tickets to various museums, galleries and other tourist offerings in advance, thereby avoiding the queues。 The authors – there are fourteen – have each visited the regions/cities they write about, and readily give their specialist knowledge to enhance the visitor’s experience。Packed with tips and knowledge of the customs, traditions, habits and mannerisms of the country, this is a book that prepares travellers for an immersive holiday or trip so they can enjoy the place to the full。You’ll also find advice on transport, including car hire, air, train and bus travel, ferries and walking。And the last section of the book gives useful and entertaining information on the country’s history, art and architecture, way of life, food and drink, and on how Italy has been portrayed in fiction and on film, as well as about the place as it is today。A very worthwhile purchase and, for me, a must-have prior to the planned visit。 。。。more

It can be difficult to evaluate travel books, but I usually consider how well the information is organized and how easy it will be to find information that's relevant to my travels。 In both of those cases, this book succeeds admirably。 It can be difficult to evaluate travel books, but I usually consider how well the information is organized and how easy it will be to find information that's relevant to my travels。 In both of those cases, this book succeeds admirably。 。。。more

This travel guide has a good dictionary in the back。 There are also city guides that give you tips on what to do if you have only two days, etc。 Note: I bought the Kindle ebook。 For some reason the screen was dark and the bookmark function didn't work。 I'm not sure if that's the fault of the Amazon Kindle app or the publisher。 This travel guide has a good dictionary in the back。 There are also city guides that give you tips on what to do if you have only two days, etc。 Note: I bought the Kindle ebook。 For some reason the screen was dark and the bookmark function didn't work。 I'm not sure if that's the fault of the Amazon Kindle app or the publisher。 。。。more

Guía sobre las diferentes regiones de Italia。 Además de la descripción geográfica se pone en perspectiva la gastronomía, la historia y los puntos de atracción。 También incluye consejos prácticos y un mapa del centro de Roma。

Brilliant。 I haven't finished reading it yet, but when we last stayed in Tuscany, we visited some of the recommended cafes and restaurants (as well as the usual monuments!) and they didn't disappoint。 Lovely to have somewhere to head to, rather than wonder where the locals go to eat and drink。 Brilliant。 I haven't finished reading it yet, but when we last stayed in Tuscany, we visited some of the recommended cafes and restaurants (as well as the usual monuments!) and they didn't disappoint。 Lovely to have somewhere to head to, rather than wonder where the locals go to eat and drink。 。。。more

I have always been such a fan of the lonely planet - it's a must buy as I plan my vacations。 But lately I find that by itself it is not enough。 I always need to also do online research, read some additional reviews etc。 So while I have no doubt i will continue to reach for it as I plan vacations, it doesn't prove to be as useful for hotels n restaurants anymore。 I have always been such a fan of the lonely planet - it's a must buy as I plan my vacations。 But lately I find that by itself it is not enough。 I always need to also do online research, read some additional reviews etc。 So while I have no doubt i will continue to reach for it as I plan vacations, it doesn't prove to be as useful for hotels n restaurants anymore。 。。。more

As you can imagine, a book that covers an entire country, a country as fascinating as Italy, is massive。 We are talking inches of book; pounds of book。 But it's all good。This Lonely Planet guide gives the reader a number of ways to decide what to visit。 Whether it's a month or a few days there are ways to dig in and figure out what you want to cover。 At the beginning of the book there's a list of Top 18。 Peruse that and see what seems most interesting。 Or visit them all。Past that section there a As you can imagine, a book that covers an entire country, a country as fascinating as Italy, is massive。 We are talking inches of book; pounds of book。 But it's all good。This Lonely Planet guide gives the reader a number of ways to decide what to visit。 Whether it's a month or a few days there are ways to dig in and figure out what you want to cover。 At the beginning of the book there's a list of Top 18。 Peruse that and see what seems most interesting。 Or visit them all。Past that section there are guides on what to do if wine or food or shopping is your focus。 I happen to appreciate the guides to what to expect in the way of costs for food/housing/drinks, and that they let me know that there are farm houses that are available to stay out。 Their information on what to wear is a bit brief --especially as it doesn't even break down into time of year-- but I've already made our kids read it because it has sound advice。Overall this is just a great guide。 It's broken down into regions which makes sense and it provides the usual information on starred activities and other things to do。 This book is not printed on glossy paper so the photos aren't the best。 I'd rather have an affordable book though so that choice is okay with us。 Lots of maps。 At the back there is an attached map of the City of Rome。 They've thought of everything, even phrases like, 'where can I buy discount designer items' and 'what is the local specialty'。 。。。more

Absolutely wonderful。 My boyfriend and I used this on our trip to Naples, and were able to slot in trips to Rome, Capri, and Pompeii, and make the most of all of them in limited time。 The tips and tricks here are great, and the section on Italy's history makes for very interesting reading。 I shall never go back to other travel guides now。 Absolutely wonderful。 My boyfriend and I used this on our trip to Naples, and were able to slot in trips to Rome, Capri, and Pompeii, and make the most of all of them in limited time。 The tips and tricks here are great, and the section on Italy's history makes for very interesting reading。 I shall never go back to other travel guides now。 。。。more

I've been using Lonely Planet Guides for years, but now it feels a bit 20th century。 I used a highlighter to bring out snippets of info I found useful。 I think the paper edition has had its day, and I preferred using free maps picked up in each city,to the ones in the guide, which were very small。。。 maybe my ageing eyes can't deal with such small print any more。 I visited 4 cities in 6 days: Rome, Bologna, Venice and Florence。 The information was useful and helped us find some dishes to order an I've been using Lonely Planet Guides for years, but now it feels a bit 20th century。 I used a highlighter to bring out snippets of info I found useful。 I think the paper edition has had its day, and I preferred using free maps picked up in each city,to the ones in the guide, which were very small。。。 maybe my ageing eyes can't deal with such small print any more。 I visited 4 cities in 6 days: Rome, Bologna, Venice and Florence。 The information was useful and helped us find some dishes to order and a good way of avoiding the lines at the Colosseum。 I find Dorling Kindersley better for illustrations。 。。。more

Lonely Planet is definitely one of the best travel companions to have when traveling abroad。 I like the simplicity of the maps and accuracy but often find myself wanting a little more information on the local attractions, people, etc。 that aren't already in a visitor brochure。 Lonely Planet is definitely one of the best travel companions to have when traveling abroad。 I like the simplicity of the maps and accuracy but often find myself wanting a little more information on the local attractions, people, etc。 that aren't already in a visitor brochure。 。。。more

This book was much better than the Florence and Tuscany edition。 I liked that there was a decent section on Cinque Terre and I like the "Myths vs。 Realities" section as well。 I will definitely be referring to this book numerous times while trip planning。 This book was much better than the Florence and Tuscany edition。 I liked that there was a decent section on Cinque Terre and I like the "Myths vs。 Realities" section as well。 I will definitely be referring to this book numerous times while trip planning。 。。。more

A comprehensive guide to Italy。 I bought this because I'm going to Milan, Venice, Florence, Pisa, and Rome (in 6 days! so insane, right?)。 I found that the book was very useful and had to keep it around with me all the time。 Especially when in a museum because it highlighted the major artworks that we had to see。 However, I found that it's not attractive much to read before travelling since there's so few pictures and loads of information。 Maybe I should be a more specific book for each city。 A comprehensive guide to Italy。 I bought this because I'm going to Milan, Venice, Florence, Pisa, and Rome (in 6 days! so insane, right?)。 I found that the book was very useful and had to keep it around with me all the time。 Especially when in a museum because it highlighted the major artworks that we had to see。 However, I found that it's not attractive much to read before travelling since there's so few pictures and loads of information。 Maybe I should be a more specific book for each city。 。。。more
