Large and incredibly comprehensive travel guide。 This book was a great foundation for planning our Italy trip。 The book provides a fantastic overview of Italy and gives huge amounts of information。 Lots of small articles and background information was included。 Useful and up-to-date。 Lonely Planet offers another solid travel companion。

As you can imagine， a book that covers an entire country， a country as fascinating as Italy， is massive。 We are talking inches of book; pounds of book。 But it's all good。This Lonely Planet guide gives the reader a number of ways to decide what to visit。 Whether it's a month or a few days there are ways to dig in and figure out what you want to cover。 At the beginning of the book there's a list of Top 18。 Peruse that and see what seems most interesting。 Or visit them all。Past that section there a As you can imagine， a book that covers an entire country， a country as fascinating as Italy， is massive。 We are talking inches of book; pounds of book。 But it's all good。This Lonely Planet guide gives the reader a number of ways to decide what to visit。 Whether it's a month or a few days there are ways to dig in and figure out what you want to cover。 At the beginning of the book there's a list of Top 18。 Peruse that and see what seems most interesting。 Or visit them all。Past that section there are guides on what to do if wine or food or shopping is your focus。 I happen to appreciate the guides to what to expect in the way of costs for food/housing/drinks， and that they let me know that there are farm houses that are available to stay out。 Their information on what to wear is a bit brief --especially as it doesn't even break down into time of year-- but I've already made our kids read it because it has sound advice。Overall this is just a great guide。 It's broken down into regions which makes sense and it provides the usual information on starred activities and other things to do。 This book is not printed on glossy paper so the photos aren't the best。 I'd rather have an affordable book though so that choice is okay with us。 Lots of maps。 At the back there is an attached map of the City of Rome。 They've thought of everything， even phrases like， 'where can I buy discount designer items' and 'what is the local specialty'。 。。。more
