Summary

A new, updated and expanded edition of this New York Times bestseller on how to reconstruct your life so it's not all about work

Forget the old concept of retirement and the rest of the deferred-life plan - there is no need to wait and every reason not to, especially in unpredictable economic times。 Whether your dream is escaping the rat race, experiencing high-end world travel, earning a monthly five-figure income with zero management, or just living more and working less, this book is the blueprint。

This step-by step guide to luxury lifestyle design teaches:

* How Tim went from $40,000 dollars per year and 80 hours per week to $40,000 per MONTH and 4 hours per week
* How to outsource your life to overseas virtual assistants for $5 per hour and do whatever you want
* How blue-chip escape artists travel the world without quitting their jobs
* How to eliminate 50% of your work in 48 hours using the principles of a forgotten Italian economist
* How to trade a long-haul career for short work bursts and frequent 'mini-retirements'。

This new updated and expanded edition includes:

More than 50 practical tips and case studies from readers (including families) who have doubled their income, overcome common sticking points, and reinvented themselves using the original book as a starting point
* Real-world templates you can copy for eliminating email, negotiating with bosses and clients, or getting a private chef for less than £5 a meal
* How lifestyle design principles can be suited to unpredictable economic times
* The latest tools and tricks, as well as high-tech shortcuts, for living like a diplomat or millionaire without being either。

I loved the first 1/3 of the book then skimmed the rest。 I think this is great for someone who wants to travel, live remotely, and/or brainstorm business ideas。 With where I'm at in life (working a 9-5 at a marketing agency), it's not seemly possible for me to follow the last 2/3 of the book。 Also, I would like to note this book for an entrepreneurial minded person, not an investor minded person。 It did not mention any advice on investing (not that I necessarily expected it would)。 By the last 2 I loved the first 1/3 of the book then skimmed the rest。 I think this is great for someone who wants to travel, live remotely, and/or brainstorm business ideas。 With where I'm at in life (working a 9-5 at a marketing agency), it's not seemly possible for me to follow the last 2/3 of the book。 Also, I would like to note this book for an entrepreneurial minded person, not an investor minded person。 It did not mention any advice on investing (not that I necessarily expected it would)。 By the last 2-4 chapters he low-key says he does not have 4 hour work weeks。 It does not seem like Tim Farris actually follows the advice he gives in his book, so it felt like a waste of time even reading this if I'm being honest。 3。5 stars。 。。。more

I'm so glad I got this book on sale。 I did not finish this because I think there's nothing I can gain from reading it。(reading into 30%, started skimming and。。。。 I just can't continue) There are so many other well-written books that teach about business, startup and productivity。 I'm so glad I got this book on sale。 I did not finish this because I think there's nothing I can gain from reading it。(reading into 30%, started skimming and。。。。 I just can't continue) There are so many other well-written books that teach about business, startup and productivity。 。。。more

No wonder this book is famous。 Many of the ideas are new, innovative and immensely productive if applied skillfully。 Outsourcing work, was the one that hit me to keep going with the book。 Very motivational, full of ideas, a must read for all the productive freaks like me。

So this is all new to me。 Am a learner and the ideas are radical。 But I can the possibility of a 4 hour workweek happening。 My only peeved is how to make this book relevant for someone like me - from one of the remotest part in the world, located in a third world country。 There is a lot of research that I have to figure out on my own

The author helps me be more calm and productive in my life。 If there is anything that need to improved, I think he should write more about how to be flexible with time especially those who have no other way but to join the system like those who have to make ends meet in developing countries。

Ankush Arora

Read it for the productivity tips。。

I've been listening to Tim Ferriss' podcast for a while, but this was my first time reading his signature book。 This book honestly reads like an instruction manual。 Tim gives specific steps, resources, and metrics to follow。 I listened to the audio book, but I'm thinking about buying a paperback version just to have access to this。 I don't agree with all of Tim's conclusions, and have a pretty big issue with his recommendation to work remote so that you don't have to put in as many hours。 Noneth I've been listening to Tim Ferriss' podcast for a while, but this was my first time reading his signature book。 This book honestly reads like an instruction manual。 Tim gives specific steps, resources, and metrics to follow。 I listened to the audio book, but I'm thinking about buying a paperback version just to have access to this。 I don't agree with all of Tim's conclusions, and have a pretty big issue with his recommendation to work remote so that you don't have to put in as many hours。 Nonetheless, his recommendations for ruthless prioritization and outsourcing of tasks is extremely valuable and something I will use as a reference as I continue my professional career。 。。。more

There's some good points in here and I think it's good for people to consider if office 9-5 life is for them。 But there's contradictions in here about giving away money to charity while hiring three unpaid interns to manage the promotion of your new book。 Also there's some 'bro' language in here about picking up '10s' at the bar which need not be in here。 The discussions of office hacks and how to work remotely still stand true。 But a lot of content in this book is simply outdated, especially di There's some good points in here and I think it's good for people to consider if office 9-5 life is for them。 But there's contradictions in here about giving away money to charity while hiring three unpaid interns to manage the promotion of your new book。 Also there's some 'bro' language in here about picking up '10s' at the bar which need not be in here。 The discussions of office hacks and how to work remotely still stand true。 But a lot of content in this book is simply outdated, especially digital marketing and PR。 Techniques change drastically in the space of two years for example。 Think a lot of people will enjoy the remote work sections of this book post-pandemic but overall not one I'd recommend for most。 。。。more

I can see where this might be useful to people who work in a traditional office setting。 But this just plainly doesn't apply to a lot of careers。 I work in the engineering field, there are definitely times when it seems like I am wasting away doing remedial things, but other days I'm working 12 hour days to get a project done on time and under budget。 This also applies to working from home。 There are a lot of careers out there where people can't work from home and slack off without their bosses I can see where this might be useful to people who work in a traditional office setting。 But this just plainly doesn't apply to a lot of careers。 I work in the engineering field, there are definitely times when it seems like I am wasting away doing remedial things, but other days I'm working 12 hour days to get a project done on time and under budget。 This also applies to working from home。 There are a lot of careers out there where people can't work from home and slack off without their bosses awareness。 I don't know。 It just seems like another how-to book that doesn't really give you useful, real-world information。 。。。more

There’s a section in this book where Ferriss talks about faking your way to becoming an “expert” so that you can sell your information for profit。 And we’ve all been duped。 This book reeks of white male privilege and encourages lying to your coworkers and superiors rather than being a decent human being。 I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone。

Isn't this a book to debate about? From what I gather in the comments section, many people feel perplexed and stuck in the middle when it comes to the idea whether this book is amazing or horrible。 Interestingly enough, I am just as confused and overthrown as most people are。This book does bring some good points by mentioning that we should focus more on ourselves, live the life we want right now, rather than saving up for the future however, this comes as counter point to everything we have been Isn't this a book to debate about? From what I gather in the comments section, many people feel perplexed and stuck in the middle when it comes to the idea whether this book is amazing or horrible。 Interestingly enough, I am just as confused and overthrown as most people are。This book does bring some good points by mentioning that we should focus more on ourselves, live the life we want right now, rather than saving up for the future however, this comes as counter point to everything we have been brought up to believe。 In most cases Tim Ferriss talked about things that simply made no sense, at least in my perspective。 How can you be a great leader, influencer, boss and what not, if you personally choose to ignore all your emails, only answer them once a week, take no responsibility for anything, delegate absolutely everything to people across the ocean who are badly paid for the job they do, and then traveling the world, with no worries? Then, he writes a thick ass book about how to become rich and shit like that。 Literally, the only good thing that I took from this book is the 20/20/20 rule。 It basically means waking up 1 hour earlier than usual, spending 20 minutes on physical exercise, 20 minutes on reflections and journaling and the last 20 minutes on personal growth。 This idea is great even though I do not find it practical or applicable to my own life。 Other than that, it's a thick book about how to keep the name of a boos while making everyone else around you work like bees and you enjoy your life and the money your bees bring into your pocket。 Oh wait, did I mention he thinks reading is a waste of time? Very strange coming from a person who wrote a 300+ page book。 。。。more

Read the 2008 edition。 I'm sure he'd go back in and rewrite whole chunks of this book, especially on remote work。 Wasn't expecting the entire thing to be about starting and automating your own business or side hustle。 Not quite as practical as I had hoped, but the email batching and personal challenges were very helpful。 Tim also channels his inner Marie Kondo well before she was cool, or even known。 Read the 2008 edition。 I'm sure he'd go back in and rewrite whole chunks of this book, especially on remote work。 Wasn't expecting the entire thing to be about starting and automating your own business or side hustle。 Not quite as practical as I had hoped, but the email batching and personal challenges were very helpful。 Tim also channels his inner Marie Kondo well before she was cool, or even known。 。。。more
