Summary

A deluxe gift edition of L。 Frank Baum’s cherished children’s classic, vividly reimagined with beautiful four-color artwork and nine interactive features created by MinaLima, the award-winning design studio behind the graphics for the Harry Potter film franchise。

Hailed as “America’s greatest and best-loved homegrown fairytale” by the Library of Congress, L。 Frank Baum’s classic story has been enjoyed by generations of young readers since its publication in 1900。 One of the most-read children’s books, it is a staple of American literature and the inspiration for the beloved 1939 Academy Award-winning movie (widely acclaimed as one of the greatest films of all time), as well as stage plays and musicals。

When a tornado strikes the Kansas prairie, young orphan Dorothy Gale and her little dog Toto are blown away to Oz, a magical place filled with witches, munchkins, winged monkeys, and other unusual inhabitants。 Lost and afraid, all Dorothy wants is to return to her Uncle Henry and Auntie Em。 But to do so, the Good Witch of the North tells her, she must follow the Yellow Brick Road that leads to the Emerald City。 There, she will find the fearsome Wizard of Oz who can help her find her way home。

Along the way, Dorothy encounters three unforgettable characters—the Scarecrow, the Tinman, and the Cowardly Lion—who join her in her quest。 Their journey to the Emerald City, fraught with peril and adventure, teaches them the true meaning of friendship and reminds us all that there is no place like home。

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Interactive reimagines the novel’s iconic imagery and highlights phrases from the original book in a unique and delightful style that will enchant readers of all ages。 Sure to become a collector’s item, this deluxe illustrated edition contains specially commissioned artwork and nine exclusive interactive features, including:

A cyclone map that opens up to reveal the Land of Oz
A pop-up Yellow Brick Road
Oz glasses that provide a different look at the world
Fighting trees with branches that move
Dorothy’s silver shoes that can be clicked together

This marvelous edition will enchant young and adult readers and is a thoughtful gift for any occasion。

“Toto did not really care whether he was in Kansas or the Land of Oz so long as Dorothy was with him; but he knew the little girl was unhappy, and that made him unhappy too。”Dorothy lives with her Uncle Henry, Aunt Em and treasured little dog Toto on a farm in Kansas。 When a cyclone strikes Dorothy and Toto are whisked away to the wonderful world of OZ。 Here she meets Munchkins befriends the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, the Cowardly Lion, and quite a few others, and has many adventures on her way “Toto did not really care whether he was in Kansas or the Land of Oz so long as Dorothy was with him; but he knew the little girl was unhappy, and that made him unhappy too。”Dorothy lives with her Uncle Henry, Aunt Em and treasured little dog Toto on a farm in Kansas。 When a cyclone strikes Dorothy and Toto are whisked away to the wonderful world of OZ。 Here she meets Munchkins befriends the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, the Cowardly Lion, and quite a few others, and has many adventures on her way to the Emerald City and the powerful Wizard called OZ。 I think everyone knows this story, we all grew up with some version during our childhood。 The Hollywood version and its telling and retelling has given all of us some idea of the story, even if like me you have never read the book。。 Well until now。 I was surprised at all the differences the book offered on the story that I thought I knew。 It is just as dark and beautiful, all the characters and towns all the ideas that are crammed into every page。 Yes at first glance through the book it will feel very one dimensional, but reading proved to be a journey that allowed me to see the characters grow, and to take perspective on the nature of wickedness in the book, nothing is ever just straightforward, which will take the edge of any scary moments and make a kid think。 It’s all about doing good deeds, kindness and support of each other and friendship。In essence it is a children’s story so the scope of the journey will feel wide while the depth not so complex, but to the children’s imagination all of those amazing ideas and characters will be filled in and will spill out over the pages。 It is a short story that a parent can read at night with the rest being filled in by the child’s imagination。 I was really drawn into this world that was bigger and more colourful than the black and white pages it is printed on。 。。。more

Dorothy and her pet Toto’s adventure from smalltown Kansas to the magical land of Oz。 Dorothy and Toto – swept up by a tornado – find themselves in a land unlike Kansas or any place they have known。 Right from the very start, their want is to return home。 On this journey to return home, Dorothy meets friends along the way。 A scarecrow with plenty of heart but in his words – in lack of a brain, a tin woodsman in search for a heart, and a timid lion in search for courage。 Their journey to find the Dorothy and her pet Toto’s adventure from smalltown Kansas to the magical land of Oz。 Dorothy and Toto – swept up by a tornado – find themselves in a land unlike Kansas or any place they have known。 Right from the very start, their want is to return home。 On this journey to return home, Dorothy meets friends along the way。 A scarecrow with plenty of heart but in his words – in lack of a brain, a tin woodsman in search for a heart, and a timid lion in search for courage。 Their journey to find the wizard that can help them is not without peril。 Along the way, they meet a wicked witch and find that their journey is not all that it seems。 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz tackles the theme of self-worth and identity in a wondrous way and helps any young or grown child remember that there is nothing to be ashamed of:We become what we choose to be。 All it takes is to change our mindset and believe we can。Moreover, this story is not only about identity, but how we go about building the identity we desire。 If we desire to be courageous people, it requires action and going on an inward and outward journey to find the courage within ourselves。 If we are looking for “heart” or “brains”, we must find situations that allow us to use our heart and brain。As for finding a home, we learn from Dorothy that we can carry a little bit of home with us。 Even though she yearns to return to Kansas with little pet Toto, we find that she is able to find “home” for a little while in the good company of friends that help her along the way。The emotional parts for me revolved around the friendship that blossomed in these pages。 All of the characters were so endearing。 There were many times where I wished I could snuggle with Toto, give a hug to Dorothy for reassurance, or even encourage the discouraged lion and assure the Scarecrow and Wood Tinsman that they already had plenty of brains and heart。I think that’s how you know a book has done an extraordinary job。 The characters linger with you, and no matter how fictitious they are, in some way, they feel real。You believe in them and the extraordinary things that they can do and have the potential of doing。 You also start believing that you have the same potential within yourself as well…This children’s classic is such an uplifting, feel-good story。 There are some dark parts in the story but it only makes the plot even more exciting as we root for Dorothy, Toto, and the friends of the Land of Oz。 I really love this book as it has plenty of adventurous people and a brilliant story。 And I saw the movie too。 。。。more

Not a patch on the movie, in my opinion。 But this is a charming little book, often quite funny, and surprisingly graphic at points (lots of beheadings and neck twisting)。 I mean, the film is pretty scary too。 But this definitely felt darker。 Oh, and I forgot what a true, hopeless humbug the "wonderful wizard" of Oz really is。 What an asshole。 Not a patch on the movie, in my opinion。 But this is a charming little book, often quite funny, and surprisingly graphic at points (lots of beheadings and neck twisting)。 I mean, the film is pretty scary too。 But this definitely felt darker。 Oh, and I forgot what a true, hopeless humbug the "wonderful wizard" of Oz really is。 What an asshole。 。。。more

This was a wonderful read。 A great companion is the LibroVox recording。 The movie left out many bits that make this an entertaining read。

I have to admit that the story is quite bizarre at times, but we can clearly see the vivid imagination of the author。 There are witches, flying monkeys, giant cats with the bodies of a bear, and the list goes on and on。 This book is so strange but in a good way!I can see why this book is so popular and I am so glad to have finally read the book。 But this book is a little bit ‘gory’ for little children to read it in my opinion。 I mean there is a lot of axe swinging and heads falling in this book。 But overall it was highly delightful and I’ll highly recommend it! 。。。more

I really enjoyed reading this, just to see the differences between the book and the movie。 I never realized there were other creatures besides the Munchkins, or that there were more travels than what the movie showed。 It's an easy read, geared more towards children, so it goes quickly and is a good option for young readers for a book report, etc。 My book also had an introduction that outlined L。 Frank Baum's life, which was really interesting to read about。 Some of the concepts would have been l I really enjoyed reading this, just to see the differences between the book and the movie。 I never realized there were other creatures besides the Munchkins, or that there were more travels than what the movie showed。 It's an easy read, geared more towards children, so it goes quickly and is a good option for young readers for a book report, etc。 My book also had an introduction that outlined L。 Frank Baum's life, which was really interesting to read about。 Some of the concepts would have been lost to me without the introduction, but it made a nice foundation for seeing things in a different light。I'm looking forward to reading some other books in the series。 。。。more

Most people have some sort of background knowledge of the Wizard of Oz but the novel is always just so much better。 Books and movies are always different。 The book will always be better than the classic movie itself。 The novel just tells the story in such depth that you can really feel what is happening in the book。

Another book from my daughter's book list from school。 I have never read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz before, so decided to give it a read。 Such a silly book。 Dorothy & her little dog Toto get caught in a cyclone & are carried off to the land of Oz。 The house lands on the Wicked Witch of the East。 They are greeted by the Munchkins。 Dorothy takes the witch's shoes & starts her journey down the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City。 Along the way she meets the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cow Another book from my daughter's book list from school。 I have never read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz before, so decided to give it a read。 Such a silly book。 Dorothy & her little dog Toto get caught in a cyclone & are carried off to the land of Oz。 The house lands on the Wicked Witch of the East。 They are greeted by the Munchkins。 Dorothy takes the witch's shoes & starts her journey down the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City。 Along the way she meets the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion。 Through a few mishaps, the company makes it to the Emerald City & speak with the Wizard of Oz。 The Wizard of Oz tells them they need to kill the Wicked Witch of the West & then he will help them。 Through some more unbelievable mishaps, the Witch melts away。 The company begins their trek back to the Emerald City。 The Wizard ends up being very little help, & the company makes their way to see Glinda the Good Witch in the South。 It seems all along Dorothy had the power to get back to Kansas using the witch's shoes。 But, then she wouldn't have helped her friends the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, or the Lion。 This story reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, because it makes no sense。 2 stars because it was just a very silly story without any real purpose。 。。。more

I'm not going to exhaust anyone with the endless allegorical interpretations of this text (there are lots), although I definitely urge anyone who reads this to read up on some of the theories about it and the American political situation around 1900, when the book was first published。I absolutely loved this movie growing up。 It was my favorite one, and we had the taped-from-tv version on video cassette。 I have a huge poster of it in my bedroom at my parents' house to this day。 This story is so s I'm not going to exhaust anyone with the endless allegorical interpretations of this text (there are lots), although I definitely urge anyone who reads this to read up on some of the theories about it and the American political situation around 1900, when the book was first published。I absolutely loved this movie growing up。 It was my favorite one, and we had the taped-from-tv version on video cassette。 I have a huge poster of it in my bedroom at my parents' house to this day。 This story is so so close to my heart, but for some reason I just listened to the audiobook for the first time!!! And it was fun。Anna Fields' narration was exquisite and made the story much more engaging than it would have been otherwise。 However, the story itself was much less engaging than the film and I wish that it would have been longer and more detailed!! The characters are so lovely though, and that will never change。 I doubt I'll read any of the sequels, but I enjoyed it anyway。 。。。more

I read the Oxford Bookworm Library's version years ago and I've been wanting to read the original version。 I'm glad I got around to reading it this time。 I couldn't help noticing some plot holes, but given that it's a children novel published in 1900, it is to be expected。 I think I'll find time to watch the movie。 I read the Oxford Bookworm Library's version years ago and I've been wanting to read the original version。 I'm glad I got around to reading it this time。 I couldn't help noticing some plot holes, but given that it's a children novel published in 1900, it is to be expected。 I think I'll find time to watch the movie。 。。。more
